You can. I think you need a green card, but joining the military for citizenship happens all the time. In my BCT unit, there was a dude from the UK, China, South Korea, and a dude from some pacific island I forget the name of. All of which got citizenship.

In fact, the US got more recruits from volunteers coming south, than they lost in draft dodgers going north.

There's Nigerians that have joined. One of my good buddies was a chink from Vancouver and was still able to go Recon. Another one of my buddies is from France is now a SARC with MSOB. So you can join as a foreigner.

You can't join as a foreigner, you need to be a permanent resident of the USA.

We let foreigners serve in some respects. Usually in support roles, not sure if they can hold tank above e1 though. It's fucking disgraceful. Military service should be a valid and honorable way to earn citizenship.

To be eligible for naturalization via service, you have to be eligible to serve to begin with. That usually means permanent residency (green card) at the very minimum.

You *need* a green card to enlist, no exceptions. Once you have your green card and enlist AND ONLY THEN you're eligible for expedited process towards naturalization, aka citizenship.
