Why can't foreigners join US armed forces and earn citizenship through service?
In France you have that option. Why not in America?
Because we already have enough felons in our military.
You can. I think you need a green card, but joining the military for citizenship happens all the time. In my BCT unit, there was a dude from the UK, China, South Korea, and a dude from some pacific island I forget the name of. All of which got citizenship.
Foreign Legion no longer takes in known criminals. They have access to EU, Interpol and several other domestic and foreign databases. You make their system go ringding during any numbers of background checks you're apprehended legion style which makes cops seem like girl scouts after which you're returned to country you're wanted in..
Foreigners can and do join the us military.
Fun fact: when it became public knowledge that Canada would no participate in Vietnam, thousands of Canadian civilians went south to volunteer.
In fact, the US got more recruits from volunteers coming south, than they lost in draft dodgers going north.
They aren't given citizenship so far as I know, but it's not like that's hard to get for a Canadian anyway.
no decent human being would move to that land in XXI
You bring shame to your ancestors and descendants.
>tfw Europe will be reclaimed in my lifetime
There's Nigerians that have joined. One of my good buddies was a chink from Vancouver and was still able to go Recon. Another one of my buddies is from France is now a SARC with MSOB. So you can join as a foreigner.
This is not a thread for this discussion, but no.
1) no society ever reversed declining birth rates
2) EU is becoming EUSSR
3) Russians resumed with their shenanigans
4) Muslims are growing in number
5) Balkans is still shit full of shit people
Meanwhile, America keeps going strong.
We let foreigners serve in some respects. Usually in support roles, not sure if they can hold tank above e1 though. It's fucking disgraceful. Military service should be a valid and honorable way to earn citizenship.
What didn't work so well is when he declared the barbarians to be roman citizens in order to increase his tax base.
>if we grant them citizenship, they'll become like us and will stop raping and pillaging!
>Citizenship part of Marian reforms led to fall of Roman Republic
>not the fact that power hungry generals had standing armies all to themselves
That sheet fails to mention one important thing.
To be eligible for naturalization via service, you have to be eligible to serve to begin with. That usually means permanent residency (green card) at the very minimum.
So, no. It's not exactly like the French Foreign Legion.
Except that its definitely a thing that happens. I know an ass-tonne of people who have joined the army from around the world and earned their citizenship that way.
Those people are bigger American patriots than 99% of the rest of the US.
Iran is tough enough to give us a fight. We would talk about airstrikes and laugh, but once they shoot one of our pilots out of the sky, there will be boots on the ground for Iraq 2: never-ending boogaloo.
Why fight Iran when we can friendship Iran? They are the most stable politic in the ME, and a good counter to Israeli and Saudi influence.
They just need to reform a bit. We can work with them at doing that.
you are confusing citizenship with permanent residency. you can't join without the latter (green card) or by going mavni (doctors and people who speak certain languages). the two are different things. once you join you can then become a citizen.
GREEN CARD != CITIZENSHIP
You *need* a green card to enlist, no exceptions. Once you have your green card and enlist AND ONLY THEN you're eligible for expedited process towards naturalization, aka citizenship.
Jesus fucking Christ, people. Know your own damn laws before commenting on it.
