Hey /arg/, maybe you dudes can help me out. I just got medically retired from the Army at 27. I have decided to buy myself an AR15 as a getting-out present.

For $2000 on just the rifle, what would you do? I have a TA31 already, a box full of rebuilt GI mags, and I already ordered 5,000 rounds of Federal XM193 since I found a good deal. I'll have time to hit the range several days per week too if I so choose.

Go on Palmetto State Armory, Primary Arms, those are where you'll want to get most of your parts.

Lurk around in here to figure out what rifles you like. Then buy a stripped lower at an LGS and order all the other parts you need online.

Or if you want something closer to what you were issued, go buy a Ruger AR556 for $640 and put a KAC M5 rail and a set of MATech BUIS on it. If you want a puritan rifle close to your issued M4, get a Colt in the proper configuration, but I promise the Ruger will do all the same things for less.

I just wiped down my entire BCG and its parts with lube after cleaning it. Its an AR dude, the bolt runs better when wet.

The only reason you'd not want to run a sloppy wet bolt is because it makes it messy, so yes you did "overlube" it but that's not a bad thing.

Since it is a simple collimated red dot, any parallax error should be within the size of the dot after 50 or so yards. Just zero it at 50 with the dot centered in the optic, and any shift in actual use will be so minor as not to matter.

I forget the exact numbers, but as an example the original Aimpoint Comp M (late 90s early 00s with the 3 MOA dot) had something like 2.2" of parallax shift at 100y, but since the error was within the 3.14" dot at that range they marketed it as parallax free, won a few big mil contracts and built an empire around it.

I don't think it's technically hearing safe, but you can shoot with it out in the open and be fine. It's great for running around and hunting. I wouldn't shoot indoors with no ear pro or under an awning without ear pro.

You lose a lot of performance with a 7.5". Being able to fit a 9"+ rail is also nice to make room for you hand, front sight, and any other accessories you may want to use.
