Hey /arg/, maybe you dudes can help me out. I just got medically retired from the Army at 27. I have decided to buy myself an AR15 as a getting-out present.

For $2000 on just the rifle, what would you do? I have a TA31 already, a box full of rebuilt GI mags, and I already ordered 5,000 rounds of Federal XM193 since I found a good deal. I'll have time to hit the range several days per week too if I so choose.

Go on Palmetto State Armory, Primary Arms, those are where you'll want to get most of your parts.

Lurk around in here to figure out what rifles you like. Then buy a stripped lower at an LGS and order all the other parts you need online.

Or if you want something closer to what you were issued, go buy a Ruger AR556 for $640 and put a KAC M5 rail and a set of MATech BUIS on it. If you want a puritan rifle close to your issued M4, get a Colt in the proper configuration, but I promise the Ruger will do all the same things for less.

Merry ETS-mas.

not really, although I have noticed a pattern in his speech. he'll make specific cheeps to say yes or no, or if he's calling me or someone else in the house. If I say his name he'll make a short clicking sound as if he's saying "yes friend that's me, what is it?"

Dumb question: If i get a 16" barrel and a 15" rail how far out of the end of the rail will the barrel stick? Exactly 1" or less/more?
>>
>>28459638
many barrels are actually 16.5" and then you have to account for your muzzle device. so typically between 2" or 3"
>>
>>28459638
The muzzle device will look pretty flush with the end of the rail, less than an inch
>>
>>28459651

Mega says it's 16" not 16.5"? I'm putting a suppressor on the end and I'm hope the suppressor will sit slightly inside the rail without me having to get the barrel cut down a bit

BCM listed mine as 16" but it's actually 16.5"
might want to call the manufacturer
and a suppressor that is inside the rail is semi-permanent. you usually have to take off the handguard too if you wanna switch it out or something

>believing the overlube meme
I just wiped down my entire BCG and its parts with lube after cleaning it. Its an AR dude, the bolt runs better when wet.

The only reason you'd not want to run a sloppy wet bolt is because it makes it messy, so yes you did "overlube" it but that's not a bad thing.
>>
>>28459717

>>
>>28459941

specialized BCG coatings and treatments have a place, such as high-end competition guns. they have little to no value for a combat or recreational gun.
>>
>>28460035
>high-end competition guns. they have little to no value for a combat or recreational gun.

Disageed. Explain your reasoning.

Mine's if bcg can shooting thousands after thousands with no additional lube another than squirt say between 3k rounds or few games.

Also

> combat
> reflective
>>
>>28460195
Different anon but my best guess is because race guns are extremely tuned. Titanium for shaving weight and coated to mitigate malfunctions = faster and more consistent times
>>
>>28460364
I thought of that but when i reread and see

> specialized BCG coatings and treatments

That shown and imply he had strictly coated or nitrided bcg in mind.

It's a DanWesson, I can swap barrels in less than a minute to a 2" CCW, a 4" belt gun, whatever I want. And it's a strong ass gun meant for hot magnum loads.

That gun was built by JMB over a hundred years ago, show some respect mall ninja.

Going to bed, only up because I was digesting oatmeal after my run.

In truth, I just buy guns I find interesting.
>SIG
First handgun, paid $500 for it in the case with three mags
>Dan Wesson
Wanted a .357, friend was selling it cheap, shoots like a fucking champ and cost me $350
>Blackhawk
Wanted a .45 Colt
>Slav/Czech shit
I like the way they feel in the hand, and the Makarov is my 100 yard pistol, my record is a spray paint can shooting one handed

And the Model 8 was a gift

My AR's are 'Meh' And trigger the fuck out of MilsurpDude when I post them, and my AK's are 80% builds (Like my AR's)

But I know my guns inside and out and I'm good with any of them to several hundred yards (Yes the pistols too)

Anyway, goodnight my Gucci shitposters, have fun.
>>

when operating in tactical operations, you won't have time for that. that's why I bought the tactical self adjusting operators model for operating seamlessly.
>>
>>28461973
This annoys the shit outta me.
People who buy something, anything, this guy with his sig he bought off his friend because it was cheap.

Now its the greatest implement ever designed. In order to justify his purchase, he considered the object a part of him. To shit on the SIG is by extension, to shit on him.

Since it is a simple collimated red dot, any parallax error should be within the size of the dot after 50 or so yards. Just zero it at 50 with the dot centered in the optic, and any shift in actual use will be so minor as not to matter.

I forget the exact numbers, but as an example the original Aimpoint Comp M (late 90s early 00s with the 3 MOA dot) had something like 2.2" of parallax shift at 100y, but since the error was within the 3.14" dot at that range they marketed it as parallax free, won a few big mil contracts and built an empire around it.

coyote should be fine with 55gr and for deer just try out some 69gr and see if it shoots precisely out of your barrel.

as for exactly what bullet, that's up to you but i imagine as long as it was made for hunting, it should be good to go.

should I get a 7" or 10" upper for 5.56?
>>
>>28466562
>>28466707
You are fine for all the shelf varmint loads for yotes, deer may take a little more. If you can't get the 64g bonded or heavier to spit right out of the barrel for deer, Federal does make a 55gr bonded for LE.

I'd have to be real confident in the shot to take it though.
>>
>>28466713
10.3

7" is a bit too short for a reliable 5.56 AR. 10.3 is the shortest I'd really want to go unless I was going to use 300BLK
>>
>>28466562
where are you allowed to use 5.56 for hunting deer?

+1 on 10.3" or longer.

You lose a lot of performance with a 7.5". Being able to fit a 9"+ rail is also nice to make room for you hand, front sight, and any other accessories you may want to use.

Picture is an 8" and a 10.3"

Got my failzero/nickel boron coated BCGs in today, a day early, and went out to test fire before and after work. Both worked. And they are a $60 more expensive per BCG than the nitrided BCGs I originally ordered. Free. Simply because Alpha Shooting Sports didnt have replacements in stock and offered me an upgrade.

Very happy now, although time will tell if they are quality and hold up to actual use.

Took two videos, both are shit but one isnt even usable. Might attempt to make webM of them later if I feel up for figuring that out.
