A marine life conservation program has chosen YOU to invent a way to protect whales from torpedoed!!

What do you create?
>>
That is pretty impressive given that I don't think there has ever been a submarine/submarine kill in the history of warfare.
>>
Argentine whale squads?
>>
>>28451794

Actually there have. A couple of submarines collided by accident or ramming, and allegedly one of America's subs was sunk by a Soviet sub and it was covered up.

I googled "whales killed by torpedoes" and apparently they thought it was a wolf pack. So they launch two torps, kill two whales, and at least one crewmember considers joining Greenpeace.

Hold on, I got this.

>PRC announces an peacekeeping program to enforce the ICC ruling on Whaling
>PLAN seizes any whaling vessels that actually try to whale and takes the crews back to China to face charges of breaking international law
>US butthurt as fuck
>Japan butthurt as fuck
>neither one can do anything since China is legally in the right and half the US population supports them

I hate China, but I'd love to see this happen.

Nope: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_of_9_February_1945

>Launders continued to track the U-boat. After several hours it became obvious that she was not going to surface, but he needed to attack her anyway – his batteries had only a limited life. It was theoretically possible to compute a firing solution in all four dimensions – time, distance, bearing and target depth – but this had never been attempted in practice because it was assumed that performing the complex calculations would be impossible, plus there were unknown factors that had to be approximated.

>...

>Nevertheless, Launders and his crew made the necessary calculations, made assumptions about U-864's defensive manoeuvres, and ordered the firing of all torpedoes in the four bow tubes. As a small, fast-attack boat, Venturer was equipped with only four torpedo tubes, all in the bow, and carried only eight in total. The torpedoes were fired with a 17.5 second delay between each pair, and at variable depths. U-864 attempted to evade once it heard the torpedoes coming, but the Type IXD2 boats were large and not quick when diving or turning; additionally, time would have been needed to drop the snorkel, call the crew to action stations, disengage the diesel, and start the electric motors. The fourth torpedo struck the target. Her pressure hull punctured, U-864 instantaneously imploded with the loss of all hands.
>>
>>28453863
DAMN
>>
I implant the whales with tracking devices and sonar beacons. Negotiate with the world's navies to develop a standard of one-way communication that they can use to receive periodic position updates of whale pods from broadcasting stations while out at sea without exposing their own position.
>>
>>28453747
Whales have to breathe, idiot.
>>
>>28453747
You're fucking dumb if you think it's not possible
>>
>>28451773
pretty easy. whales sounds/breathing are on a different spectrum of frequency than a ship in most cases. put a system on the weapon or the FCS that scans all frequencies and isolates out those that match with whales that live in the current area.
>>
>>28453747
>thinks there are really all that many whales out there
>thinks we don't do this already, albeit not with systems that can transpond with military vessels

The technology is there, anon. I don't think it's incredibly useful, since nobody torpedoes whales often, and whales are smarter than to go near ships.
>>
>>28454339
yeah but the problem with this plan is that once an enemy figures this out, they can use their transponder to call out the whale signal. just like how a military plane can squawk the civvie signal.
>>
>>28454323
Only a matter of time before people hack that or whatever so that they can send blockade runners or something else that mimics a whale.
>>
>>28453674

So snipers could troll the fuck out of tanks and everything near them by shooting those? LOL
>>
>>28454368
>>28454339
>>28454371
You beat me to it, but yeah those were my posts.

I already said it was a stupid idea. There are bigger threats to the whales than torpedoes, and I think any "solution" we could come up with would be very much in search of the problem.

I think that upgrades in various SONAR and microwave radar can let our subs differentiate between whales and targets, anyway.
>>
>>28454400
>thinks that the meme post he's responding to is a serious answer

I could be wrong, but I think they detonate BEFORE any impact? Isn't that the point?
>>
>>28454400
technically yeah, but you forget what tanks do when they are fired upon. plus all it would do is waste plates, it's not hurting the tank, there's a reason the S is TUSK is survival.
>>
>>28451773
basically a whale warning drone. so you launch it from a naval ship and it swims out about 10k around the vessel with a sonar, detecting the whales. when it detects one it warns the ship and then swims up really close to positively identify and record which species it is and then detonates a 100kg warhead and kills it.

get fucked greenpeace.

>>28451773

>>28454368

>>
>>28451773
Get rid of whales altogether. No more whales means no more illegal Japanese whaling nor whale-seeking torpedoes.
>>
>>28454507
yeah and so is using bio weapons, but guess what saddam did. laws don't stop those who intend to break them.

>>28454522

>>
>>28454426
ERA requires an outside force to activate.

If this post >>28453003
is correct, that force is close to a 12.7mm / .50cal projectile's muzzle energy.

So in response to >>28454400
You would have to be less than 100yds away.

>>28454575
Weird anime is from Japan, and it's USA's fault because they hit them too hard at the end of WWII
>>
>>28453863

Submarine warfare was intense.

http://www.uboataces.com/ref-submarine-sounds.shtml

Submariners have brass balls.

Is there any way to petition the navy to include escape pods in all future submarine designs, btw? I think it's total bullshit they don't have them.
>>
>>28451773
Use active sonar. Can't kill whales with torpedoes if they're already dead
>>
>>28457841

>less than 100 yards away

That depends on what rifle you're using, right?
>>
>>28451773

Equip whales with countermeasures.

>>28454556
>What makes you think they give a fuck about saving whales?

The fact that it's Japan doing the whaling. Koreans too would do it because of Japan and 'muh occupation and comfort women.
>>
>>28451773

Create of fleet of P8 Poseidon aircraft and patrol all the oceans until every single submarine is dead.

Only then will the whales be safe.

You know most of that shit is illegal right

And chinks enforce their laws a hell of a lot harsher then the japs.

Hence why Japs eat their shit and think its normal but those gross ass foods you talk about are for the corrupt or the poor and are all almost black market.

People have been executed for eating human fetuses, which is why there are more cannibals in Western jails because Amnesty International are a buncha faggots.

What do you have against clean burning lamp oil?
>>
>>28453747
I agree. It's retarded because GPS is powered and doesn't work under more than a couple feet of water.

Better to slap a device that reflects a specific wavelength very well. Then integrate pinging on this frequency into ship radar.

Or, you could just do nothing because who cares.
>>
>>28457930
True that. Dating a native Korean whose grandfather learned the Jap language in school as a child because the Japs were trying their damnest to destroy the entire Korean way of life. I can only suspect it was jealousy, after my personally seeing a number of western weeaboos ditch their love of all things Jap only a little while after living in Korea, and turn into Koreaboos instead.
