I highly recommend BA. Aside from not renting shit and the ROs occasionally being a little high strung, it's a great range. If you are willing to wake up early and show up at 7 AM, the range is dead as hell and the guys there pretty much just shoot the shit around you.

I can't really say I have faith that there'll ever be an AZ meetup. I think if something were to happen, it would have to be large enough, and have a great enough incentive to make it worth it. I think that, instead of an AZ meetup, there should be a Southwest meetup for /k/ommandos from many different states. there's a reason nuggetfest is so popular (I think it's up in MN), and that's because a lot of the Northern dwelling /k/ommandos are invited and capable of showing. I don't know exactly what goes on, but I'm certain there's an incentive aside from something like "show up just for the sake of meeting like minded people in your area." things like tannerite target shooting (I think that happened), camping and BBQ. just my two cents, and to be perfectly honest, I think I would be much more likely to show up to something that I knew a lot more people would go to, and that I'd be fed and there'd be plenty of cum brownies and ammo to go around, but I think it would have to be a BYOB sort of basis, in terms of ammo, food, shit to shoot at, lodging, etc. like I said, I don't know how nuggetfest works, but I imagine it's a bit more planned out than just "grab nugget, gaysex innawoods"

SGC is fine as an indoor range and has a lot of fairly cheap rentals. AFAIK there's nothing else really good in N. Scottsdale.

A friend of mine has been considering a membership there to learn how to shoot his new CC, but I've been trying to advise him against it. His reasons are that it'd be closer than shooting in the desert and he can go "pretty much anytime", but IMO the benefits don't outweigh the costs.

Anyone know of any good shooting spots in Flagstaff? I don't mean "someone's backyard 10 minutes east of Whatever", I mean "a place where I can shoot in peace and not get buttfucked by police for doing something 'illegal' on someone's property". Preferably pointed out on a map.

Besides the area being prepared for people (firewood, designated ranges roped off, bathroom) it was not. The hardest part is getting a location squared away for a large group in an area where you can pump lead downrange for 8 hrs. A smaller group would actually be easier to deal with. Food and shelter were BYO, though many planned to share a lot. On exchange, the atmosphere was a friendly place to shoot guns, spout memes, and be amoung the like-minded.

OP here, I'd be down for even a smaller meetup, a large one would be badass though. If it's a location that is not too much of a pita to get to with a normal car (idk about where some of you are going, or if you need some lifted truck to get out there as far as desert spots go) I think more people would be down. Irl memes and some fun shooting shit sounds like a blast. We can all bring our own nuggets, food, etc and it could be sweet.

Yeah, the store next door is total shit. Cabela's is great, but it's 40 minutes away. There's a place a bit south called Bear Arms which seems pretty reasonable. Fairly large selection and a used-gun rack (which is 80% shotguns) that rotates often.

"cost" is a relative term. For someone working an hourly job, it may make more sense to spend 20 min driving to SGC and back and spend $15/hr (non-member) than drive 2 hours roundtrip. Then, money you can earn, but time is gone forever. And finally, a closed range is a place where you can just shoot, fast, a lot. Outdoors, and on BA range, you will inevitably lose time to mandatory target setting, walking back and forth, etc. - which adds to "time is money" argument.

OTOH, if you want to relax in the desert and also shoot at your leisure, go for it.

However, you can take it apart on the counter, they'll help you give it a look over, and they are generally good about getting functional guns only. Yeah, I talked to those dudes as well. I have an impression that there's so much open land around Flagstaff that nobody needs a dedicated range. You need to just know places to shoot and people to borrow guns from. Locals won't tell you anything unless they trust you - who needs problems with LE.
