As for OP, I shoot 5.56, .22, and 9mm almost exclusively now because they're 29, 9, and 20 cents each where I can get them. Battle rifles are too rich for my blood. So consider an ar15 or a h&k 93 style rifle / century c93 or something.

I already posted, but I don't like battle rifles. I think .308 is to expensive to do that sort of shooting. I use it for hunting or precision (inb4 6.5 fags, .308 is fine for inside 1000 yards)

They are a little higher than that price but the absolute most is like $10 but that's still pretty cheap. The only real problem is, is that when you get up to the higher capacity, you're going to be paying $70 for 30 $90 got 40 and $200 for 50 so, I hope you either save or are perfectly fine with 20 rounds.

Most of the reviews on the c93 though are usually met with "replace these parts" and your gun will be quite ok

Yes. PTRs are one of, if not the only, Real Fucking NATO rifle that's semi auto, has detachable mags, shoots 1-2 MOA out the box, and costs less than a grand. C308 need not apply because CETME clones a shit.
