My vote is for the Glock 26 & an AR-10. If one has to be for small game, then a Ruger SR22 would be my choice.

Handgun: Polymer isn't durable enough, and the steel frame handgun with the best parts/ammo availability in the USA is the 1911. If you live in Russia or Eastern Europe, a Mak or Tok might be a better bet.

So SHTF handgun = 1911

Rifle is a tough one, I would say ammo availability,durability, portability and accuracy are the critical issues.

>durability because it's not going to be kept in a safe with desiccants and cleaned after every shooting session

I would say either drop a bucket of cash on building an AR with top notch parts, or get a stainless Mini-14. Both use widely available .223, and have good irons (provided you get good ones for AR)

handgun: any decent wonder 9. 92fs, g17/19, hk p30, usp, sig p226. Though some people will say a large frame revolver because fewer moving parts and such. your choice

rifle: .308 semi auto high cap rifle, like a SCAR, FAL, G3. AR-15 is OK, but I'd really have a full powered piece if possible.

As much as I dislike it, a Governor revolver would probably be a good choice. It can use 45acp, .410 shotgun shells or .45 long colt. Being able to use 3 kinds of ammo increases your odds of having ammo you can use or being able to trade you sweet virgin ass for.
