You grandfather is awesome. The bear patch is the 545th MP Company, 793rd MP Battalion aka "Arctic MP's" stationed out of Fort Richardson, AK.

The 545th was detailed with security of military bases, radar installations and NIKE Missile installations in the Anchorage Defense Area.

The "A5" is Fifth Army, or what is currently known as US Army North. Fifth Army was C&C HQ for Army Reserve, as well as training and continental defense of the US.
