Here's a pic from the Project Europa thread for those that remember it. As well as some things we researched in the previous month's threads.

Also, unfortunately do to international law each nation owns the waters 3 miles from the shore, this is referred to in the past as the distance at which a cannon fired from sea can hit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-mile_limit

This has since been updated to a 200 mile "Exclusive Economic Zone" designed to protect each nation's fishing rights. Therefore all assets within 200 miles of a nation's coast are considered to belong to that nation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclusive_economic_zone

Unfortunately this includes Sealand after the United Kingdom adopted this new model. Originally Sealand was just a few miles past the limit but is now included within it.

In addition according to the new International Sea Treaty, "man made" islands (such as Sealand) cannot achieve status as a sovereign nation.

Its hard to get anything like this to not turn to a political force with guns. The reason special forces units and merc groups work great is because they are either specific government backed or government funded. If you have a group that answered to no one and had no political ties they could start their own political force and force their ideology at the muzzle of a gun. Interesting concept, I don't really see it working well though.

All very good questions that we are in the process of tackling, but I'll try to address them as best I can.

1.) Eating, sleeping, drinking, pretty much the same as here, only somewhere else, hopefully nicer.

2.) We're looking into aqua/hydroponics, fishing, farming, etc. This will ultimately depend on location.

3.) Our currency will most likely be generated from selling our services as PMC, production of unique/collector/high quality one offs.

4.) Ammunition, skillsets, firearms. As stated above.

5.) As many as would be interested. This number will play a huge role in location selection.

6.) In progress. I don't want to touch that one yet.
>>
>>22959677
sure, i was blue gill in the last thread
>>
From a logistical point of view, even talking about farming is eons ahead of acquiring an island.

There's only really two ways to get said island. We either have to actually buy one, or we need to take one and make the United States or some other large political body acknowledge our sovereignty.

If we're doing plan A, we need to figure out how we're raising that much money, and where we're purchasing.

If plan B, we need to figure out some nebulous land held by a similarly nebulous government, and construct a reason for the US to want us to settle there. A thought off the top of my head would be a Mexican island off the coast, and claim we're peacekeeping militia. Mexico would hate it but probably not devote any resources to removing us, and we would have to beseech the US for support. Long term support turns into sovereignty a lot easier than you would imagine.
>>
I have faith that we will come together and make this into a reality gents. I really hope that day will come.

1. Where does our food come from friend Anon? Are we going to be a banana republic? "Brothers Without Borders Triple Distilled Ivanavov Vodka" "Brothers Without Borders Fine Grain Tobacco!"

2. Fair enough

3. For that to be viable we will need a stellar reputation, not only that if we choose contracts poorly and people actually start dying I think a lot of people will just say "fuck this" and leave.

4. You want to produce arms and ammunition but where will the base ingredients come from? The craftsmen? Do you have a few thousand kilos of metal chilling in your back pocket?

5. A lot of people would be interested once the base started becoming operational.

6. I feel you should get this under raps first. If a lot of low-quality people rock up thinking this whole idea is just an excuse to live lawlessly then expect to get knocked the fuck out by the first country that notices our shenanigans. As well as internal power struggles

I say this because, if it's the second option, it's really easy to get started. We could get started within the month, we just need backpackers willing to camp out on whatever island we have scouted. Depending on how often that island is interacted with, we could get a huge start on developing it.

>>
>>22960048
Exactly. Basically, no one has the time to really deal with us... thirty guys camping on an island claiming to be a militia isn't worth any attention or resources.

Once we are to the point we garner attention, we just need to have a reason to be there. In my example, we're just a militia on Mexico's soil. Which is sheisty, but Mexico won't send in helicopters. Then with time... say, several years, the situation is still the same but our island is developed. It's technically still Mexico's, but is it really? We export goods and say we're a sovereign nation. We control that land, and we can garner support from the US by letting them use it as a camp or something, or sending them information.

So I've been watching this thread since it started yesterday and I'm totally on board with this idea 100% .so here's my two cents, everyone in these threads have been discussing either islands or oil rigs, I suggest you think about either a cruise ship or a cargo ship both of these options address allot the the problems with the other two
1) space: these things are massive, three mobile cities capable of housings 1000's of people and all the infrastructure needed to have a comfortable living and still have space for training
2) matenice, not only are Their 1000's of ports were we could resupply on fuel, food, and fresh water, but it would be easy to maintain and repair with either a paid crew or minimum training
3)amenities, with built in water storage and treatment, power generators, plumbing, kitchen, infirmary, and comms station it has everything we need built in
4)mobility, one of the most visible pros of theses shops if the fact that they could sail to anywhere in the world were their needed, whether it as a staging area and HQ for operations in an area, providing protection for other ships, or if need be keeping mobile and hidden from enemy's looking to attack us

>>22961053
we've actually been considering some mobile options, if you comb through the threads we've looked at some barges/cargo ships etc. They boil down to a few major problems:

1.) they use an absurd amount of fuel
2.) producing food on them is challenging
3.) Having dry land to train on, and disembark on, opens up a lot of possibilities.

What seems to be the consensus is this: Get an island, and then get a ship. Keep most the people on the island but have the ship for transport, deployment, and other things.

Only prob I'd have with exile is making sure wherever they go, their conviction travels as well. We don't need other countries crying foul when we 'send them' killers and rapists without them knowing..
Otherwise, it would be financially sound and encourage citizens to stay on the up and up.
What about drugs?
I feel like we need at least one person who is VERY well versed in law to figure out how we as a collective cover our asses in the global community.

It not like we'll have many.
>>
>>22963279
so how will you do things like, say, manage traffic to not be a horrid clusterfuck of tourists' cars? What will your criteria be for the cataloguing of hazardous materials and how they are hazardous (so that emergency personnel can clean it up effectively)?

Or is this just an anarchist commune that won't go anywhere because no one's responsible for anything, so nothing will get done?
>>
>>22963348
Once alliances come into play, enemies can follow. I think the sans frontieres concept should be employed literally so that we don't step on the wrong toes.
Wet dream instance: some chaps do wetwork for country X. Country Y finds out, retaliates against the group, rather than country X, since that would turn into a bigger shitstorm.
There is much to ponder. Tree huggers would have a much easier time establishing a non-threatening community than a collective of people who could be considered paramilitary, even if we're on the level.

>>
>>22963386
There is that risk yes, but you can mitigate that risk by allowing all sides to tender their vessels / aircraft there in return for whatever is agreed on.

>>22963391
It would be handy having a regional power on your side, but at the same time you don't want to be squished by the upcoming 'Pacific Pivot'..

My thoughts on it was with the India Ocean island options, that we would offer Russia tendering contracts in return for aid. Russia receives new range for its fleets, we get lots of Rubles to use... this was before Ukraine shit flinging of course.

Nothing happened while I was there with buddies (which was mostly the point, we were a deterrent and made our presence known for that reason) and with all our expenses we didn't even break even.
