>Does it really matter?
It is true that strength does matter in Modern Combat (i.e. "rucking", military shit) but let's assume two soldiers using the same exact gear are the same weight/strength but different height.
>5'7'' manlet
>6'1'' man
Who would have an advantage in Modern Combat in?
>innawoods
>innadesert
>innaurbancombat
Pic related.
>>
It only matters if you're very tall or very short, 5'7 and 6'2 doesn't mean much unless you get in a boxing match.
>>
>>22800568
So no extreme's on the spectrum as that'd cause some obvious problems.
>>
>>22800585
being tall is a hindrance
being swole is a hindrance
>>
>>22800585
I'm 5'5, had a buddy in basic that was like 5'3. Neither of us were yoked out, both of us maxed our PT. It's amazing how you don't really need to be the visual pinnacle of fitness to excel in a military setting.

Ruck marches do hurt real bad though, real real bad.
>>
>>22800677
Have you ever seen combat?
>>
the SS didn't let manlets in it probably why germany is so good at soccer now
>>

IIRC the US military had the same height limit.

Why are manlets always the best soldiers?
>>
Manlets require less food and water and present smaller targets to the enemy. They would make good soldiers.

Tall men however project an aura of confidence and as such make better officers and NCOs.
>>
>>22800772
The Napoleon complex drives us to destroy all things around us.
>>
>>22800559

I'm 5'7 and a former infantry soldier. I hated rucking but was excellent at reconnaissance patrols ("recce"). My size gave me an advantage in that I could make myself a much smaller target and hide in far smaller places.

That being said, being the smallest soldier in my section, my commanders gave me the biggest fucking gun because I was "hard as fuck"...

so make of that what you will.

Actually being short can be very, very useful in combat. You'll make a better tanker if you're short, also it's easier to hide and camouflage yourself.

1.90m tall supermen are good only for parades.
>>

What the hell does that have to do with world of warcraft?

Being a manlet is an advantage in a tank, it's just common sense.
>>
>>22800894
It's still in the average range. Sure, he's taller than a hard set number, who cares, does anyone notice? He was normal height if it pleases you.

That said, he WAS dwarfed by his guards and generals. He was short for a military man.
>>
>>22800559
plus: a few armed branches prefer agility over strength.

dwarf builds are good for artillery. last ditch ammo.

Tall guys with longer legs make bigger paces and can march slightly faster, also they can see over obstacles better and reach longer. Short guys are more compact and fit better into tanks and behind cover. Having had both and being tall, both have their advantages. Having a good mix and using each persons individual strength is decisive, not height as a number!

PT? Not very many. During other training exercises or ruck marches? I'd say at least 1 per event minimum, plus another or two every now and then.

Nothing major, rolled and sprained ankles, minor heat injuries, insect bites, people doing stupid things. Honestly people doing stupid things explains 90% of the injuries that occur.

Mind you these are all just my experiences, they'll vary from person to person.
>>
>>22801888

>>
>>22801533

Hence why being short is so important. Who do you think you're more likely to hit with your instant death bullet? A 7 foot tall goliath, or a 3.4 foot tall dwarf? It's rather basic math that the larger you make something, the higher the probability it shall make contact with another object. This is why Soviet tanks have such low profiles, for instance: Because the best defense they have is not getting hit.

This is also why high-profile tanks like the Sherman were undesirable: the taller the object, the harder it is to conceal, and the easier it is to target.
>>
So how much does it cost to properly size equipment for the 2 extremes in height?
>>
>>22800559
I hate to say it but my Drill Instuctor said once that short mexicans make the best marines to operate the saw because they are a smaller target...I have noticed in my deployment that completely opposite of Hollywood logic big guns are given to the small guys.

>>
>>22800559

As far as training is concerned, it's just to put added pressure on little guys so they learn to manage the weapon. So happens when they deploy as well, training has a side effect of making you useful with the weapon, who better to use it than the guy that had to haul it around and work with it in the rear.

I'm 5'7" on a good day. Women who judge on height, I generally don't have time for, but men who care are usually looking for an ego boost, so they'll try to stand over you, so to speak; it can be really subtle, even just in the body language of someone passing you on the street.

Know when to be small, know when to act bigger than you look. The ability to avoid notice is the short man's advantage, but with that ability comes the potential to make that much bigger an impact, when actions and behavior come from places that a larger man wouldn't expect.

I should also add that it works on women too. Women know what they want, and go out looking for it, but if you show a girl something she'd like, but would have overlooked on her own, you can fill her desires on your terms, which offers you more control over an inherently calculating and manipulative person.

Or, you can wait around for a woman who isn't a vapid, self-obsessed cunt.

I remember reading in Antony Beevor's book on Stalingrad that most of the German survivors of the kessel were short. The tall and large people who made it to the Soviet POW camps were also at a higher risk of dying.

The common explanation is that smaller people require fewer calories than do larger people. If you've got a 5'2" manlet and a 6'4" goliath, the tall guy is going to weigh a lot more, his heart has to beat a lot harder to circulate blood up and down his body, and he's going to use a lot more energy moving himself around to do everyday things than a smaller person would.

That said, you have to be careful when doing these kinds of non-scientific analyses. In WW2, large American soldiers were routinely singled out to carry the BAR, or to be on machine gun and mortar crews, or to carry flamethrowers. All of those occupations are high-risk jobs on the battlefield, because they draw the most enemy fire. Maybe the larger people in Stalingrad were only at a disadvantage because they were put into high-risk situations.

This is true. My maintenance calories for 5'6" is 2100, but I can survive on 1600. I can't imagine most of those guys in Stalingrad got more than that a day.

>Bigger guys in more calories
true
nice perspective, wonder if there is more statistics on height and combat.

>Ruck marches do hurt real bad though, real real bad.

isnt there a jacked 5'5 guy on /k/?
does he have any mil experience?

If we're considering advantages, smaller soldiers not only require less food to support their bodies, but they can maneuver easily through or conceal themselves. Also they'd be advantageous in colder climates due to less surface area of the body, probably inverse for hot weather.

For men no, for women yes.

Smaller targets

Its a well known fact that short guys can 'ruck', 'hump', tab, yomp and stomp better than taller guys. lower centre of gravity and better height to weight ratios. Look at your typical British Paratrooper, they are on average short and stocky.

im 5`4
are you serious? if the enemy mistakes you for a kid then that is an advantage

Their operatorness is in reverse proportion to their height, from the looks of it.

>That said, he WAS dwarfed by his guards and generals. He was short for a military man.
Well, when it came to the Imperial Guard, he hand-picked everyone who was basically the biggest, toughest soldiers in all of France. They were there to look impressive, as much as be impressive.

But overall, height = manliness is a rather overblown concept.

>mfw the overly aggressive, hyper, and jockish guy in my IT class was being a dick one day...
>mfw he says he's 'bigger than me' because he's like an inch or two taller.
>point out I'm like one and a half times his size, he laughs, and we stand a few inches apart.
>mfw I'm about an half an inch taller, and still broader in the chest and shoulders (19" from the tip of he acromion bone) than he is.
>'alpha' male is pissed as fuck and walks away
>rest of class chuckling

I'm 5'10" for the records, in the average range, but frankly this Manlet stuff, along with anyone who acts 'Alpha' is a whole load of crap, put out mainly by overgrown children and dumbasses who would be labelled a nigger for their behavior if their skin was dark enough.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. My shoes were especially thick soled, so he was probably taller than me by a small margin, actually.

>mfw he was still a dick and everyone in class got to see his face rubbed in it
>plus I still would have had an extra 50% in mass on him (not fat, but bone and meat, I'm only 220 pounds, so there's fat but not a substantial amount... besides, I've been lazy the last 6 months, otherwise I wouldn't have that).

This.
I did the KSK evaluation course back in 2011, got through and accepted aswell.
Decided against it in the end, but the experience was interesting. You did have the typical brutes wanting to be Ares himself but none of them got accepted. The others were pretty normal dudes, one J1 officer even. Fit, clever and mentally tough as nails, but no Schwarzeneggers.
You wouldn't suspect any of them of beeing ice cold motherfuckers if you just passed them in the street.

poster related. Back when the British army's minimum height was 5'4, they made battalions during WWI of soldiers below the height standards so they could join the fight

Read a book called "At the Sharp End", by an American author who collected stats from WWII. He analyzed each combat arm, but the infantry one is obviously of interest here.

From what I recall of his stats from the Normandy Campaign, two things stood out: If you lived for the first week or so, you tended to survive the whole war. The other was that the smaller guys tended to last longer than their taller counterparts. They were faster to cover, more agile, smaller targets, and could hide behind more objects. It's just common sense when you think about it.

I'm 6'3/215lbs, and one thing I have learned over the years is to respect all opponents.

To do otherwise is foolish.

My great uncle once told me a story from when he was in the army, so a long time ago. The crux of it all was a boxing match between the stereotypical big beefy sergeant and little tiny private. One of the officers heard about it and decided a boxing match would be the best way to settle things once and for all between the two.

And it ended with the private cleaning the guy's clock, because he was a Golden Glove champion.
