Looks like a commemorative sword given to some officers.

yeah seems about right. I think it says Oberfeldwebel in the beginning so that's his rank
Which is a second level sub officer or whatever they are called. NCO's i think.

It says Dem Oberfeldwebel Schlürer(not sure on the l, this is his name) for 30 years of loyal service. Officer of the 3rd Citizen Kompanie

and the rest are some names and words that you probably didn't get right or abbreviations
>>
>>22065182
Might be. 30 years service makes it seem like it's something from the German Empire. Any family in Europe in the 1940s? It might be a war trophy, definitely cooler than a Jewish man bringing back Hitler's left testicle or something.

Future german military historian here.

pics are pretty shitty, can't make out that after "gewidmet" but it reads:
> Dem Vice Feldwebel Schlüter für 30 Jahre treue Dienste
> gewidmet ... Offiz. d. III. Bürger Comp. Hptm. Wegener, Ob.Lt. Müller, Lt. Noll, Lt.Schütte.

It's a ceremonial rapier for 30 years of service in the prussian army. The rank "Vize Feldwebel" didn't exist anymrore after Kaiser Willhelm II. was abolished in 1918.

Thats the mark of Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, a German blade manufacturer. Seems like a honor weapon for a 30 year service anniversary.

P.S. the Rank is Vicefeldwebel and the name is Schlüter and the weapon itself is a Hofdegen a type of smallsword.

>>
My grandfather brought one of these home as well. Don't have any photos sadly, but it is pretty much identical, except for maybe the hilt? I don't recall how it looked, been several years since I saw it last. It's in excellent condition, my grandfather (and grandmother after he passed) kept it oiled and didn't like taking it out.

The inscription looked pretty much the same, lots of German and fancy inscriptions. The story I was told is that it was found in a storage compartment under the bleacher seats of a stadium somewhere in Germany.

Also taken from that storage compartment: Two fuckhuge swastika banners like you see in photos of Nuremburg and other rallies (They're probably 6ft wide and about 25ft long) One w/ one swastika, the other with three iirc; a homemade deerskin messenger bag (pretty cool, but pretty gross 70 years later); some tiny pocketbooks with mein kampf excerpts (about 3 inches in size); two german officer hats, and a helmet that seems like it was made to fit a 12 year old.

He also has a bunch of reichsmarks and shit from an obliterated bank they cleared.

Wish I had photos to share, but most of this stuff is at my grandmothers house in a closet somewhere still.

Should I take it to a jeweler to restore it? I'm not going to sharpen it nor try and fix it myself, but I want to restore it. If I shouldn''t let me know. And how should I keep it stored?

don't. it'll just ruin a historic artefact, change a fond piece of memory, lower its actual value and you have a fair chance of fucking it up in the process. smallswords were mostly used for thrustfencing, btw, so while most had an edge, the were mainly used to stab someone to death. so no real need to sharpen it

so Was the man aa good soldier?

>Vize Feldwebel
From 1887 the Offizierstellvertreter (Deputy Officer) ranked as a kind of Warrant Officer (more NCO than officer) between Feldwebel and the commissioned officers.

There were three further NCO ranks: Vizefeldwebel (Vice Feldwebel, senior NCO), Sergeant (junior NCO) and Unteroffizier (Lance Sergeant or Corporal, junior NCO). The Gefreiter was not an NCO as he had no powers of authority, and was a higher grade of private soldier.

Information is much appreciated anon, should it be in oil all the time? Or like after a month period then in a dark area so as not to damage the leather?

The metal does seams like it will last another century no problem. So their names were Eickhorn, Clemen & Jung? Jung though, seems a little... off?
>>
Hey OP, please remember to tell your family and future offspring the importance of not sharpening it and leaving it as it is, they may not be as careful as you. I've seen stuff get destroyed like that before, don't want to see it again.

He was a tank driver(?) in the Guards Armoured Division since he had basically a duel citizenship. Long live the king and all that.

Thats the manufacturers mark, both companies produced cold steel weapons during both world wars, both exist to this very day, Eickhorn still makes bayonets for the Bundeswehr, and Clemen & Jung make handcuffs under the Clejuso brand.

It seems oriental to me, but hey this tread is a testament to idiots not knowing what they have, what to do whit what they have and not knowing how they got it, so I could be wrong again.

Absolutely, if not for it's value I will tell my spawn of how noble and just my grandfather was, and to keep the swords in pristine condition as a tribute to him and our surname.

Very mature.

Why not use Google translate for a rough idea of what they say?

lightly oiled should keep it fine. oil it depending on the humidity of your location and the location of where you are going to keep it.

Afaik the Vizefeldwebel was the lowest NCO with Portepee / swordknot. Therefore he was above NCOs without swordknot (corporal, sergant, ensign) but below any other NCOs with swordknot. An ensign with swordknot was the next in rank after the Vizefeldwebel.

They are Hofdegen swords
The larger blade says:
> Dem Vice Feldwebel Schlüter für 30 Jahre treue Dienste
> gewidmet ... Offiz. d. III. Bürger Comp. Hptm. Wegener, Ob.Lt. Müller, Lt. Noll, Lt.Schütte.
It's a ceremonial rapier for 30 years of service in the prussian army.
Manufactured by (larger) Carl Eickhorn and (smaller) Clemen & Jung
He was a Vize Feldwebel in the Bürger Companie

Anything more to add /k/? You have helped me out a lot and I can't thank you enough

>It's a ceremonial rapier for 30 years of service in the prussian army.
German imperial army would be more correct, can't say he was in the prussian for sure (even though the sword manufacturer was located in Solingen / Prussia)
>gewidmet Offiz. d. III. Bürger Comp. Hptm. Wegener, Ob.Lt. Müller, Lt. Noll, Lt.Schütte.

basically means the Degen was sponsored by the COs of the III. citizen company for him -> captain Wegener, senior lieutenant Müller, lieutenant Noll and lieutnant Schütte

>Bürger Companie
might have been an artillery company

oh and yeah: cool sword bro, take good care of it. My family has barely anything left from our personal history. My grandma was on the run from prussia at the end of ww2 and had to leave lots of stuff behind
>>
OP, treat the scabbard with Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP. It's primarily beeswax and tree resin. It contains no harmful oils that will soften or deteriorate the leather.
