Their daily pay more than the cost of their weapons. So it's barely worth mentioning. Especially since not all countries require them to do this before entering the port.

The logistics of getting the weapons out to them is more interesting though.

Carbine length is for operators

All other gas lengths are pleb

Its a .22 projectile. If you cant handle the "recoil" you have other things that need more attention than your choice of gas tube length

i was wondering about that myself, it's not like you could just mailorder an assault rifle from anywhere to anywhere in the world (at least i dont think that's how it goes).

are there any documentaries on how this equipment is actually being transported?

Info is quite restricted, since it's often a mix of legal & illegal circuits. For large companies, it's not too hard to buy the weapons they need legitimately. But getting them shipped legally is often a lot of hassle and not all countries allow it.

You also have to realize that armed anti-piracy troops are a fairly recent thing. Former anti-piracy experts used on-board things to fend off pirates. High pressure hoses, barbed wire, dumping ballast, cargo nets, and so on. This was often enough in most circumstances.

While there have always been very violent pirates, they were in general a minority. It seems like heavily armed pirates have become the new standard, and as a result anti-piracy consultants and experts have now gravitated towards armed troops. Generally two to four per ship for as long as the ship is in dangerous waters. As soon as the ship leaves the danger zone, they hop onto other ships or get picked up to get sent home.
Due to this, the weapons tend to stay at sea, as they hop from one ship onto another. Weapons are also often transferred from one team onto the next before heading home or into port.

Sign up for the 18x program, complete a term of enlistment, discover how the world really works, completely abandon any sort of moral compass you may or may not have, sell your soul for cool gear, binge drinking, and the chance to murder people for fun and profit, and finally submit a CV and DD-214 to one of the many PMCs looking for people with your set of skills and moral void.

>working for Black water.
>>
>>21934162
I don't know why the fuck you brought that up out of nowhere, but actually the main reason why people prefer midlength over a carbine length gas system is that the gas impacts the bolt carrier harder so the parts wear out faster. But yeah recoil and that aren't a problem if the buffer spring is strong enough.

>>
>>21934247
Where do you sign up for this?
>>
Well, it depends a lot really.

"Legal" mercenaries usually get them from local governments or whoever hired them.

The "illegal" mercenaries, the ones who have boatloads of money but no country to live in, have way more "fun" getting new weapons.

They have to get them through a gun runner, either directly, or through a connection. This is, obviously, insanely dangerous. Most gun runners are actually pretty cool people, it's the connections that are sketchy.

Source: I do work in Africa currently, mostly legal, but I can't get weapons through local governments because I'm white and not UN/US. I'll answer questions, and obviously you have no reason to believe me so inb4 full of shit

>>
>>21935031
Any weapons/support from government we get is from police/military, who are insanely racist. Even if we had a signed and sealed letter from the president of the country to give us weapons or ammo, they'd say they did and tell us to fuck off.

I don't shoot animals unless I'm eating it, so no I have not. But boar is pretty good.

Leatherman no, generic multi-tool yes. Not out of me though, fortunately. The only time I've ever taken a bullet it passed right through and didn't do any severe damage. Hurt like all hell.

Yes, I've been in several firefights.

It varies a lot, we move around a lot. We've been up and down the west lately. Mostly security and escorts, some training, but the US and companies generally do that nowadays. Most recently we've been doing convoy escorts, escorting groups of people (mostly women, children, elderly) through dangerous areas to either large cities or national borders.

We did, for a while, kill poachers. But then government took that over.
>>
>>21935056
Because not in every country the lower is considered the actual firearm. In many counties there are different relevant parts (barrel, chamber, bolt).
>>
>>21935003
What's the most exotic firearm you've seen in Africa? I understand that part of the world is dumping ground for all sorts of arms, but have you seen anything that sticks out?
>>
>>21935056
>Why not just throw the lower over?

Because most other countries are not as retarded as the USA. The lower being the weapon is something that flies in the US, but pretty much nowhere else...

Most countries count the bolt, the barrel, the sear/hammerpack and so on as a registered gun part.

>>21935028

Do you think blacks are inferior to whites (I mean on an inherent level, obviously Africa is a shithole)?

What kind of people do you work with?

What guns do you use? How do you get ammo? Is ammo standardized in your team or does everyone just use whatever?

What kind of vehicles if any do you use?

I'm sensing that you're more of a boots-on-the-ground low rent sort of operation the way you talk about "the US and companies." Does your team have assigned roles and special tactics or anything, or is it more of a "gibe money and we put boolit in badmans" situation?
>>
>>21935123
Honestly it's not terribly interesting, I was 21 and decided to join up with a humanitarian group going to do medical work in Pakistan, the group I went with ended up hiring a mercenary group when we got over for protection. We didn't take any shots or anything during the 50 days we were there, but I got buddy-buddy with a handful of the guys. I went over again a few months later, and ended up staying to work with them. I started off doing translations (I speak a few languages) and ended up going to Africa with a few of them.

Since we're not fighting in *wars* we're technically legal mercenaries, but we're not corporate, we're cash only.

It's anecdotal evidence. How do you know this picture was taken in pirate-infested waters, or that this isn't really a rare case?
>>
>>21935175
Honestly, the majority of the blacks over here are fucking great people, they offer us food and shelter whenever we need it. The military/police are taught to hate us though. The fact that Africa is a shithole really does make it hard to not be racist over here though. They're not the brightest bunch by any stretch.

I work with other mercs, friends of mine mostly. But I assume you mean the locals? I mostly interact with a few no-name government folks and a few U.N guys

In Africa? AKs mostly, ammo is readily available. We can get pretty much anything though, so a few of the guys get fancy German guns. Ammo we either get in bulk from our runner, or from the locals. 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 costs like a chicken out here, so it's insanely easy to get

Mostly old shit, if anything. Old jeeps are the best because we can do all the maintenance ourselves.

Moreso the latter. We do a fair bit of escorts but as I said previously, we did hunt down poachers for a while.

Actually, I think the exact opposite is true. Organized gunrunning and mecenary work will become more available the more poor regions on this planet go to shit (primarily South America, Afrika, the middle east and south Asia).

Western society is tired of fighting unwinnable wars like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq etc and losing loved ones in third world shitholes. Meanwhile, in said shitholes a new generation of young people with too much hatred and too few opportunites due to the total lack of perspective and order is growing up. Since those people flock to extremists and terrorist groups like flies to shit, the situation there is getting worse and worse. It's not exactly news that the prosperity gap is becoming wider and wider.

Whole continents with millions of people are watching us getting fatter and richer everyday while they live in the same shit their forefathers had to live in, with no perspective but to take what they think should be theirs. Look at Israel and tell me that's not true, look at South America or Northern Africa, look at West Africa and South Asia.

Every time these conflicts blow up, the chaos and need for order in these parts rises. The arab spring started with a fucking vegetable vendor setting himself on fire in North Africa and while Tunesia is somewhat calming down, Syria is going to be a battlefield for years to come.

As sad as it is to say and see, I don't think the world has become much more peaceful in the recent years and we shouldn't mistake a troop withdrawal from one shithole (Afgh.) as an indicator of a more peaceful era to come.

The ship itself is worth guarding even if empty, dummy. Renting muscle isn't all that expensive in the grand scheme of things. For shipping, it's nickle & dime stuff.

I work in a dredging company, and a single pump costs 1 million euros. What the fuck do you think a ship costs?

thats why unions for docks have so much power and sway

>>
>>21935926
I don't think that was his point. The demand's going to be there, but the method of supply won't be able to be nearly as open.

You think the USA/whoever is going to let some big arms dealer come up who's so open as to do his business over satellite phone and out of a giant, distinctive cargo plane? Literally all he has to do is piss off someone who can track a plane and shoot it down and he's over.

Another layer to the impossibility is that the guy's talking about an AN-225, only one of which was built. Once, in flusher and more centralized times, it would've been conceivable that someone would've decided to build more. Soviet economy could've revived, right? Now everything is scaled back.

Even step down to the AN-124, and there's only 55 of them, only 26 of them in private hands.

It's not the having guns that's difficult, it's finding police/military who cooperate. Like, if we get the guns brought to us it's no problem at all, but often we're on government payroll, so they're SUPPOSED to provide the weapons. However, police/military don't like us, so they don't provide. We go through our runner then.

>>
>>21940563

I translate in certain areas, if my language skills are called for. But nowadays I do a lot of shooting and less talking.

Working out becomes largely pointless when you spend 7-8 months in the field at a time. That's what keeps us in shape mostly, but we do go to gyms when we have the chance.

A few hand to hand fights, sure, ambushes mostly. Ended very quickly though.

Africa, Middle East, SouthEast Asia, and once in South America. the SA trip was strictly to protect a runner who was dealing with new druglords and wanted firepower. No shots fired, no shots taken. Was a weekend trip.

For perspective and general cost guidelines:

AK: $5
AK Food: 1000rds is $2.5
RPG: $150
RPG Food: $20/each

>>21940614
Cost, reliability, and availability of ammo. Lugging 1,000/rds for 7 months is hell. Much easier to get from locals/dead attackers as needed. AK is the go-to for us, though we do have other weapons available.
>>
>>21940634
>Edge of international waters

I can't buy just 1, that's the problem, runner doesn't want $7.50 for my gear, so we have to pay transport fees and things like that. All-in-all it costs me about $400 to get a shipment, then cost of weapons/ammo.

A runner is a gun runner. But they're the ones that deal with presidents, generals, and others. So they're the ones who recommend us for jobs.

Example: General Xim!bop from the Congo wants to make sure his people in Shithole A get to Shithole B safely, because some rebel faction is going to raid Shithole A and rape and pillage everything.

He meets with the runner to pick up a shipment, and mentions why he's hoarding thousands of guns. Runner says "I can get them there." and we get a call.
>>

Have you ever been hired to do a job that directly antagonizes a previous employer? If so, has this prevented said employer from giving you a job afterwards?

Also, I don´t imagine local governments get into bidding wars for mercs, do they?
>>
>>21941003

We've turned down jobs that involve helping execute genocides or things like that. Never over a fight. We don't go toe-to-toe with armies, so it's mostly just poorly trained militias and the like. Factionwise, we ask our runner for his honest opinion. He's got no desire to put us in serious harms way, because we keep the money rolling for him. We buy from him, we seal contracts, we protect him.
>>

Our runner has us shut down competition regularly. We either fuck up his sale, or blow up a few vehicles while he's there. Short-term jobs like that pay the best too.

Gun runners are very competetive. Ours, dealing largely in Africa, has a LOT of competition. He doesn't like that, so he scares them off. So he asks us to fix it. We'll either show up during the sale and start talking about how great of a help we were to the buyer, or from the moment he arrives we blow up his cars while he's asleep. Send him a message to back the fuck off.

Worth noting: We have never, and probably never will, turn down our runner on these.

>>21941293

Congo, 2 years ago. We were halfway to Zambia when we were ambushed by some militia group. We were transporting diamonds, so I'm not terribly surprised about the ambush.

Question for you and/or K
How far is the reach of gun runners? I have a friend who has a co worker who met a gun runner in the southwest US. He said they showed up in an unmarked American cargo plane. This was in the 60's. Not sure if they would be "gun runners" or some kind militant group working for the govt.
>>
>>21941550
>white guy in a suit

Oh, I thought you worked for local bigwig africans mostly?
>>
>>21941590
Hard to describe really.

It was about 0200, we were getting close to the village we were stopping at for the night when we heard an explosion. An RPG struck just in front of the trucks, we got out and the diamond truck gunned it. We saw muzzle flashes, and we fired back. Felt like hours but it was over in 30 minutes. We were pretty banged up but no dead, thankfully.

Execute, 100% of the time. Except child soldiers, we bring them to the government and wash our hands of it, none of us can do that. It's awful.
>>
>>21941550

>>
>>21941637
I don't get billed by the IRS so I have no idea.

As long as I can make a deposit and not get asked where it came from, I'm usually good. Our runner has set accounts up for us so he can deposit it immediately.

Ever see women soldiers?

How do you do executions? Nonchalant kill them however you're feeling, or some ritual thing like "always back of head with pistols" or "standing and given a cig before blasted."

Do you do executions or is there a guy that doesn't mind it?

Has your group ever had attempted revenge attacks?

Have you ever thought of going full mad max/big boss and starting a new "country" there and/or maybe making a local area better with your groups influence?
>>
>>21941639
It's job-to-job. If I speak the local language, I'm in charge. Equipment is 100% up to the guy. I think I mentioned it earlier, but I'm not sure. We have a guy who pays $1,000 every job to get special equipment shipped for him. We've got marksmen, and a guy who insists on only carrying an MP7. We land about a week before the contract, meet with locals, talk about, and then put our orders in. Runner gets them there by the end of the week and we go to work.

We've had instances where the government was supposed to hook us up with guns and ammo, we get to the armory and get laughed off. Ended up buying AKs from locals and finishing the job.

What constitutes proof? Like there's no paperwork for being a merc mate.

>>21941687
Fortunately no, I haven't.

I've carried out a few. Depends on their demeanor. I'll either put it in their head and end it, I've let a guy use a sat-phone to call his wife and tell her he loved her before killing him, things like that. If you're good to me, and not a disrespectful cunt, you get some luxuries. We've kept a few alive and just brought them to government where they were put in prison, but I assume they were later executed.

We don't have time for revenge attacks, we look at it like this:

We get this done in the right timeframe, we get paid, we move on to the next job. Fuck whoever comes between us and our pay.

>They blame it on Mugabe and Mandela
I'm in America, I get what Mugabe did. What do they say Mandela did to shit things up? I by no means buy into everything I've heard about him (or anyone).
>>
>>21942626
You've said before in this thread that you're "team" hasn't fought in any war "yet."

Why is this, how do you feel about doing it, and do you seriously see it happening?
>>

OPpenheimer and Nuke Guy are the same guy, unless I´m horribly mistaken.
>>
>>21942699
Is that so? Thanks, I didn't know.
>>
>>21942672
Mandela put the needs of the blacks before the needs of the country in many cases. He wasn't too bad from what I understand, but the style of governing he set is what is screwing SA.

>>21942697
Honestly, I don't think we ever would, but Africa is Africa mate, you learn quick that every government exists for war.

How old are you (you don't have to be exact).

You said you plan to retire in 8 years, what will you really do then? Why 8 years?

How many coal-black africans have you given the D? How many kids do you (possibly) have?

What do you plan in the long, long run?
>>
>>21942883
Oh no, I've been *in* for 8 years, I'm 29. I wanna get out of this before I'm 35.

I plan to retire because, honestly, every job is more dangerous than the last, and I have enough money to live insanely comfortably for the rest of my days.

I haven't had sex with any Africans, the risk of HIV terrifies me.

I don't have any kids (Part of the reason I want to retire).

As I said earlier, when I got into this I had *no* plan. It was just a job, and it was awesome. After a few years I put some thought into it. I'll either end up in Zimbabwe or Ghana, maybe South Africa, I'll buy land, and live my days out comfortably, with my girl and hopefully marry her and have a few kids.
>>
>>21942944
Is your girl ethnically Bosnian or is she Serbian/other?
Is she a muslim?
>>
>>21942944
I thought that being white and living as a normal person in africa would be very dangerous. Can you elaborate on how this will go down?
>>
Hey Merc, since you can't prove shit and pretend to be a translator, you could tell us which languages you know and write something with them.

If I joined the army as infantry (US), got some combat experience and got a job at a PMC, would that be a good start to get to your general lifetsyle? My family wants to move out of the states (sisters mostly, no kids or anything like that) and I have a need to operate.

I thought the russians were there from the start? In pakistan?
>>
>>21943346
Huh. If I were to learn a language, what would be the one to most likely get me hooked up with mercs?
>>
>>21943376
Nah, it was just 5 of them at the time there, the brits and South Africans. I mentioned that I spoke Russian at some point. When I came back by the years end for another trip, they were with us again and they offered to take me to the next job with them. Showed me the cash up front, told me what I'd have to do. They were doing a job for Russians in Dagestan, protecting a building. Did some translating, got my money, got into it.

>>21943391
I wouldn't even know what to recommend, mate. Luck got me into it.

I mean, one who isn't even in that great of shape.

What are the rest of the mercs like?
>>
>>21943444
Well shit. I'm sure I can run into a few eventually.
>>
>>21943502
I don't do any of the recruiting, we honestly just meet guys at bars who are former mil and down on their luck and offer them jobs. Seems to happen a lot out in Africa.

Everyone is great, we're like a group of friends more than coworkers. We've got no real structure or anything like that, so there's no infighting.

As far as I know, no? I think one of the russians is a bit wonky, but I've also seen him take a Middle Eastern woman to his bedroom while we were in Pakistan (Not the first time I was there, to avoid confusion here).

>>
>>21943697

>>
>>21943720
All around my height. Two of the South Africans are taller by a fair bit, probably 6'5, 6'6.

And it very well may be true, I'm not sure...I'll have to ask him, never have, really.
>>
>>21943733
nah. the post number is correct for /s/. worried that a direct link might get nuked by mods
>>
>>21943724
Never during jobs, no. But apparently we all like the same bars. It isn't some intense rivalry, or anything. We're all in the same shithole, doing the same shit work.
>>
>>21943751
So a 6'1", 6'2", or 6'3" person would be tall in your group.

Is there anyone that seems actually nuts?

Anyone that likes to kill in a particular way?

Anyone that goes out of their way to use something sharp?
>>
>>21943795
I suppose, yes.

Russians are inherently crazy.

As for the last two..No offense mate, but this isn't the expendables. We're not doing badass operator tier shit, we're usually just shooting floppies and driving on. If it comes to it, we use what's available. There's no "Wait let me stab him".
>>
>>21943825
Why are they called floppies?
>>
>>21943867

To be entirely honest with you, I never asked. It's just slang you pick up. Since I've been hearing it since the start of my career, it's what I call 'em.
>>
>>21943867
it's a rhodie term. I imagine a lot of former rhodies went merc, so it got into the community that way. a gaming buddy of mine, who was in some sorta scout unit with the rhodies in the war, has a habit of calling pretty much every mook baddy floppies, orcs, goblins, whatever, all 'floppies' to him
>>
>>21943884

>>
>>21944015

>>

most booked it for SA or england, some went to AUS or NZ or canada, or sometimes US. a few stuck it out, a few got killed
>>
>>21944015
How do you guys not all die? I mean, you fight all the time, against more people than you.

Is it because these floppies are just really really shitty? I'm not saying you guys ain't good, but numbers are still numbers man.
>>
>>21944039

>>
>>21944066

>>
>>21944063

Also what language do you all speak for your internal communications?
>>
>>21943884
Are there any africans in your outfit? What about blacks not from africa?
>>
>>21944052
Luck is a lot of it.

We lose a few men every so often..It's murder on us all when that happens

Mostly, Floppies can't aim, and run pretty early on in the fight.
>>
>>21944071
New Rhodesia.
>>
>>21944101
Do you or anyone there wear any kind of body armor? Can you get it reliably? How much? What kind?
>>
>>21944090
All whites, not because we don't pick up blacks, but because we've yet to meet one worth grabbing.

>>21944074
Probably Harare, English for internal communications, I speak Russian to the Russians when we have time.
>>
>>21944131
If I go there without a clue, am I going to get raped, killed and robbed?
>>
>>21944159
Harare is still "white"...So maybe not? Honestly man, you're probably not going to find me, it's not worth risking your life for a chance at possibly bumping into a group of mercs in Harare at a random night at a random bar, right before they go off to work.

>>21944115
We can get it insanely easily, we do have it on most missions. It's cheap, and old russian gear mostly.
>>
>>21944200
Is the armor effective as the shit the US uses now? I guess it'd be easier to ask what can it stop?

Could you get the high end shit, like dragonskin or whatever people are spooging over now.

Were you wearing armor when you got shot and did it fail or what?

What sort of "military vehicles" do you guys use?

Any heavy weapons ever, maybe grenade launchers? I'd splodge over a mk19.
>>
>>21944200
What sort of medical treatment can you guys get? You mentioned you were shot... What happened after?
>>
>>21944237

I suppose we could, but we go for availability and speedy delivery, so old .mil gear is what we grab.

It stops 7.62x29 pretty comfortably, not sure how that compares to US

I was not wearing armor at the time, it was too fucking hot out. Learned quickly.

Jeeps, mostly. Some trucks.

Yeah, we get RPGs, grenade launchers, and c4 sometimes.
>>
>>21944273
Ever get heavy machine guns? A mk19? You use technicals I assume?

Do you guys have any "base" to speak of? A merclubhouse?
>>
>>21944265
I was fortunate enough that the rounds went right through, no fragmentation (that I know of). We cauterized. We get some decent medkits, and when we're working for the governments we get our healthcare taken care of, or we go to SA and pay there.

>>21944303
Technicals mostly, yeah. We've been offered them but never taken them, at least while I'm there. No point really. And we've got a place in SA we'll crash at if no one is out on job.
>>
>>21944328
All that money, and you guys don't have a permanent on staff doctor? What the fuck mercguy?
>>
>>21944352
Tell you what, you find a doctor willing to sit in dangerous African countries, twiddling his thumbs and waiting for some mercenary to get shot and I'll hire him right now.
>>
>>21944362
What do you think happens to people who's medical licenses get revoked?
>>
>>21944378
Mate, I live in Africa (mostly) I don't even think there are medical licenses here. It's far more effective for us to just use local hospitals for serious things like gunshot wounds. We've got medic "training" all of us, we can work miracles, but it's not pretty.
>>
>>21944396
I would seriously consider scouting for some down on his luck (former) doctor. Eastern europe? The money you can offer someone with a revoked license should be enough to persuade them, and that'd be good for your long term life expectancy.
>>
>>21944441
I'll mention it when I get back. Maybe I'll take a week and go find one. I'm waiting for my girl to fly out here in two days, maybe she knows one.
>>
>>21944441
I think this anon has a point. Plenty of those kinda docs in the States. Especially if he has a huge alimony payment. Disappears into Africa, no more alimony payment lol.
>>
>>21944469
Do you use a passport or any kind of ID when you travel?
>>
>>21944493
I've got 14 fake passports and birth certs, just in case. But we fly private, rarely get ID'd. Crossing borders consists of flooring it on the truck and blowing past any security.
>>
>>21944511
>Crossing borders consists of flooring it on the truck and blowing past any security
If you do that, why don't you take weapons over the boarders too?

What happens if you get caught as you currently cross borders, and have you been caught?
>>
>>21944536
Getting caught flooring it can be blamed on "Sorry mate, didn't know it was a border..Here's my passport, my bad"

Getting caught with weapons results in arrest, death, or other such uncomfortable things.

Africa is all kinds of fucked up.
>>
>>21944511
You mentioned that some of the things you've seen have really stuck with you, which I understand completely, and you sound like a really level headed dude. I'm curious about how you and others handle the stress of getting shot at; do you keep a cool head under pressure? Have you ever seen someone lose it when they come under fire? Do mercs get PTSD?
>>
>>21944551
Geez man.

What info do you want to impart to us left in the thread?

What would you like to tell everyone very interested in your (style of) life?
>>
>>21944551
Do you consider yourself to be religious?
And has your experience in your line of work effected your thoughts on the divine, if you have any?
>>
>>21944567
Racism helps..A lot. Not going to lie mate, you learn to hate the militias with a passion, not even viewing them as people.

We've had a guy lose his cool under pressure, ended up getting himself blown to hell by an RPG because of it. Can't afford to in this business. And yes we do.

>>21944575
I'll leave it at this mate, think long and hard about it. Don't think "Well someone from 4chan did it, I can too". It's not an easy decision to make, and I got into it by pure luck. You need to sacrifice everything to even have a chance, and most people who want in don't know what that entails.

Your death means nothing. Your life means nothing. You will never live in the US, the UK, or any Western country again. You will likely never live in an Eastern Euro country again either. Your Quality of Life is going to be absolute shittier for 7 months of the year, possibly longer. You can die at any minute of your life.

There is no air support, or respawn, or try-agains. You fuck up, that's it. You're dead, and you no one knows or cares.

It's hard work, it's rewarding ONLY monetarily. No one thanks you for your service, or gives you a discount. I don't recommend anyone get into it, if they don't have the balls, and desire to do it. Remember, I got in as a translator, I didn't go out looking for it, I started off doing humanitarian work.

easiest way to get multiple passports is to buy legitimate citizenship from Caribbean and S. E. Asian countries. In the 80's and 90syou could become a citizen of the Bahamas for about us$ 40,000, and There was somewhere else in the islands that was as low as $25,000. In thailand you just needed to marry a hooker.
