Why does the United States military stage trials if they never adopt anything? Have any manufacturers ever complained about essentially being blue balled while fronting R&D costs?
>>34224425
Also why do federal agencies and the military as a whole have such a schizophrenic attitude towards procurement? If small arms have largely stagnated why can't they make up their mind wrt what they need?
The trials are there in case there IS anything the military decides is worth adopting over what we currently have. Thus far the answers have generally all been no because either...
>Cost of replacing current rifles with a new rifle and caliber would be too immense to justify the need
>Very limited gains in terms of performance in adopting an all new rifle in 5.56
>Many past trials guns have antiquated quite quickly, XM8 is a prime example of this
>Logistics of implementing a new rifle to the armed forces of the largest military in the world
>Effort in retraining manual of arms if they went for a bullpup
Honestly, the best thing the military can do is keep the 5.56 and adopt a more modernised AR-pattern rifle, keep improving the 5.56 round, and supplement squads with a new caliber and possibly rifle. Firearms development is at a bit of a standstill and will probably be at a standstill for potentially hundreds of years due to how prolific cased ammo or chemical propellants are.

/k/ related plants itt, whether healing or weaponized let's discuss our rooted counterparts that so often only see the bottoms of our boots
Starting us of with Yarrow. Yarrow is a powerful antistyptic (stops up bleeding) that can be applied as is under bandages to stops bleeding. It can also be put into powder forms and tinctures and has other healing properties when used in these latter manners

So I want a shotgun for home defense, and I'm not sure what I should go for. Any ideas? I'm looking at the Nova right now, just because it's affordable as fuck and seems to have a good reputation.

Mossberg at Walmart.
Semi that cycles #00 reliably is your best option. Under stress, you are more likely to fuck up the pump.
>but I don't want to spend 1k on a HD gun!
Then get an AR for less than half that. It's a better option anyway. Less over penetration, easier to use, cheap ammo, much higher capacity.
>>34224147
Have to agree.
Fuck Remshit. Go Moss.

Hello /k/.
My son is on this website and he told me to make a "AMA". He told me there is interest in the Rhodesian Bush War. I was part of the first S.A.D.F troops to cross the border into Angola on Saturday 16 August 1975 to protect the dam at Calueque (Blood Sweated In Training Is Blood Saved In Battle) 11 Kommando Platoon 4. I am not sure if you can see the picture but that is me in the middle. If you have any questions I would like to answer them.

Were am arming sword and shield the optimal setup for a melee warrior in the age before plate armor?
I just don't see spear and shield being super useful in tight melee confrontation, and carrying only a pole-weapon makes you super vulnerable to missile.
>>34223822
Poleaxe.
>>34223851
A poleaxe user without plate armor is an easy target for missile fire.
Spears, pikes, and lances were common, as they put range between you and the threat and were excellent against armor. There were several formations which allowed multiple ranks of men to thread their spears forward, making tight formations extremely strong. They were also cheap and good against cavalry. Swords were high dollar items in many societies: if you had a sword, you may have a horse; if you had a horse, your lance was primary. Axes and hammers/maces were common as well, but much like swords they were for closer encounters and loose fighting.

What is the best service rifle in use and why is it the rk95?
>>34222962
it's a fine rifle, but out of all the RK rifles alone, only a tiny fraction are RK95s. And they are quickly "running out" thanks to constant wear and tear, which is why FDF is now modernizing the older RK62 rifles into the 62M standard, adding adjustable stocks, RAILZ, etc on it.
All that being said, the RK rifles have the simplicity and realibility of the AK rifles, combined with higher production standards, improved sights and few other small improvements to the design. They're pure war fighting weapons, tools for conscript soldiers, that can be expected to last from father to sons.
the rifle with the most memes is obviously the best
