I'm looking to get into deer hunting in the fall and winter, so I figure I better decide on the weapon that will slay deer.
The laws in my state only allow anyone to hunt with either slugs or straight-walled cartridges for some stupid ass reason. (Iowa btw)
I'd rather purchase a rifle with affordable ammo so I can practice with it before I go hunting, so 45-70 and 30-30 is out of the question.
357 rifles and 45 lc rifles are a nice start. However, what about 30 carbine? Specifically m1 carbines? How would 30 carbines hold up against deer? Only reason I ask is because I think semi auto would be better than lever action for faster followup shots if need be. Plus, accessories seem to be on the affordable side and magazines are cheap.
Either an m1 carbine, or I might find a nice bow.

.30 carbine is basically just a rimless version of .357 magnum, the stats of an average load are virtually identical, so if you were considering .357 magnum for hunting purposes than .30 carbine would suit your needs as well.
Personally though I'd go for a rifle in .44 magnum instead for deer hunting.

The media doesn't know what a tiny key lock does on a revolver. It started as a legal issue, and there's no reason to think that that's changed. Maybe it was a stipulation in the original legal settlement that the company had to make all models of their revolvers with this lock. They get around it for some models by making secondary production versions without the lock, but it seems like most models are still produced primarily with the lock.

I think there just seem to be two kinds of makers for AKs in the US right now, the high end ones who are very serious about building/customizing AKs, but do so at a high cost, or shitcrafters like Century, who import some alright middle of the road AKs (mostly from Serbia), and also engage in making their own, which they are awful at.

Same dilemma as you OP, and I've decided on the new model of the Scorpion pistol with the carbine handguard, and the SB Tactical side folding brace. Cheap mags, better suppressor host than the pistol caliber ARs, and plenty of current and upcoming aftermarket support.

I have been thinking this over for a few months and I cannot decide between the two as my next rifle. I was thinking of getting one because of that Real Fucking NATO sexual healing. Primarily,however, I mainly want one to use that DAG blue plastic training ammo because of the cost per round. I figured it would be a good and cheap way to get in some trigger time on a cool rifle. They both are really awesome rifles but for right now I can only afford one. Can you guys help maybe edge me one way or another?
Between the two in my mind they both have some pros and cons:
FAL:
+Seems better for a lefty
+Adjustable gas system seems useful
+Easy to clean and maintain
+Huge amounts of surplus spare parts
-Mags are a bit expensive
-A non Voyager DSA is a bit pricey
-Building a FAL costs the same as a Voyager
PTR:
+Super cheap mags
+PTR91 costs about the same as a Voyager online
+Blowback means those spent cases have nowhere to go but out
+Standard sights seem better
-Ergonomics seem wonky for a lefty
-G3 training bolts would raise the overall cost up to a good DSA
-Annoying to clean
?-?Bolt gap might become an issue down the road

With all this shit going on lately, I want a .22 short barreled semi automatic rifle for the zombie 'poxyclypse.
Of course short barreled rifles are illegal, so I'd be getting as close to that as is legal, which means a pistol. ( In a zombie apocalypse there'd be no law against me putting a non-pistol stock on it if I decided to, though in a zombie apocalypse I probably wouldn't care much desu )
I know .22 pistols can be pretty unreliable so would want clearing that failure mode to be easy and quick.
I posted this pic to show the kind of thing I have in mind. But I have no idea if it is a good one. What does /k/ think about these things?
Also why not be versitile? Features like the ability to add silencer ( remember we're talking The Walking Dead times here - might need to do ops for/against Neegan )
What is a good one of these types of things for The Road?
