I had a few extra bucks laying around and wanted to just pick something up for fun and play around with it... So I bought the micro thermal / FLIR Imager made by Torrey Pines. played with it at work in the kitchen and with my co workers. Actually pretty awesome little gadget.
You can tell a little details on people (RE: Layers of clothes/ glasses,) now this is not a NV device. But it works best at night. I'll post some pictures of it in works. I'm going to not post the blurry shit photos I took of the treelike outside because my phone won't focus correctly on the screen but I'll continue to update if those that may be interested.
NOTE: the Thermal Imager works best outside, in non AC environments but here we go. Images inbound

Would modern Generals mount a last ditch defence of their headquarters or capital city using nothing but pistols? Do modern Generals even carry firearms?
>>34271708
get the fuck off my board Nazi
>>34271722
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>34271708
>modern generals
>ever doing anything an actual soldier would
Officers are only soldiers up to Captain. Major and above and they'll never leave the cozy air conditioned tent on the FOB and probably don't even know where their body armor is since they never wear it.
If they do actually have a weapon, their PFC/SPC driver is the one who looks after it.
Anything above LTC is politics, not military.
What is /k/'s opinion on the JLD Enterprises PTR series rifles? Personal experiences? Anecdotes? Performance? My personal question is why are they liked so much on this board? I have never read anything negative about these rifles; only glowing reviews. Any reason for this?
>My personal question is why are they liked so much on this board? I have never read anything negative about these rifles
Because they're cheap, my dude. Its the nugget or SKS phenomenon all over again, applied to .308 semis.
That said, they aren't bad rifles, but grossly overhyped.
>>34271476
>why are they liked so much on this board
Because they're simple to operate and clean, cheap to own, abundant in spare parts, and aren't fussy about ammo, so you can run shitty steel case russian all day.
Kind of a meme, but there you go. Only problem so far is that they're awkward to hold if you're a manlet and cumbersome to manipulate on a two-point sling.
>>34271476
Good and reasonably accurate rifles for fightan, huntan, and sportan. I own one and like it greatly. Shoots much softer than a what you think a battle rifle would. Eats any ammo you give it, but it chews brass and throws it into orbit so get a buffer and brass catcher if you reload .308.
Hey /k/,
I've read the sticky and been a long time lurker. I've decided to save some money and get my first gun to practice shooting with.
I'm currently working on getting my student loans refinanced so I want to save some money first. But, more than likely by next month I'll be out at a range and practicing in Ohio (near Cleveland).
I'm leaning towards pic related since it's at a great price and reliable gun from what I've heard. Any recommendations other that this?
I know I need .22lr ammo and, eyewear as well as ear protection, but is a sling or anything else necessary for a first-time buyer and shooter?
Please no bully.
a sling is incredibly useful but if its a range toy where the only carrying you do is from your car to the bench you dont need one. also 10/22s dont come with any provisions to mount a sling. you have to buy aftermarket if you want one since ruger are cheap fucks.
>>34271455
10/22 is a good choice, and that's a decent deal on one.
I would say a sling isn't necessary.
You will need something to transport it to the range in. Any generic $10-20 soft rifle case should suit your needs.
You also might need targets.
10/22 Is good. Sling is useless. You don't need eye protection. You don't really need earpro for 22lr but use earplugs anyway. Keep in mind that 22lr rifles will get dirty very fast. Constant cleaning and oiling is required to keep the rifle feeding. Buy a cleaning kit, gun oil (motor oil if you are cheap), and bore cleaning solution. Watch youtube videos on how to takedown a 10/22 for cleaning and get familiar with the rifle. Follow the 4 rules of gun safety. Keep the rifle unloaded and ammunition hidden so you don't tard yourself into a bloody mess. Keep firearms away from kids. Have fun
Guys, I think that China's aggressive behavior in the south China sea is because the leadership knows that because of China's aging demographics China won't be able to fight any wars in ~15 years. So right now they're trying to "finish" all fights/disputesnow before they're too weak to do it.
Would you agree?
Theres more than a billion of the fuckers tho
How fucking retarded could an American be to talk about the demographics of China or anywhere else..
America is a minority American country TODAY
Millions of foreigners arrive every year, half a million anchor babies are born every year
And it's a democracy, so the foreigners will own the country whenever they become a voting majority

>Every constructions are done in the islands they've already owned
>Meanwhile US are sailing their fleet almost weekly basis around their islands and back door as high-profile as possible
>"China's aggressive behavior in the south China sea".....
I completely hate this fucking shit of a socialist state which is adding more gun control every year but I really want 3 rifles for me that's good enough within this year
>doesn't matter the budget just how good the rifle is
Any suggestions /k/?

FN-49, Garand, BM-59, Ljungman/Hakim, lots of the shit that came out right after WWII but before the FNFAL, G3, AR-15 and AK-47 dominated all markets.

1) Mini-14
2) Savage Axis II or Ruger American Rifle
3) Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22, or M&P 15-22
If you like cowboy stuff, you could swap a Henry Big Boy/Golden Boy into slot #2
/k/, I just spotted a couple hogs on my land and am relatively new to guns, what rifle would you recommend I buy to help deal with them? Not hunting, mind you, just in case I run into them with my dogs while walking my land.

whatever floats your boat man, remove invasive species. my recommendation is a fal.

>>34271298
The caliber and semi auto are appealing, any ideas on lighter rifles or will I have to suck it up if I want to have stopping power?
Why haven't we seen an ar15 platform rifle chambered in 7.62x54r? With all the niche calibers out there, it seems like someone would've designed something?
Is it logistically a bad idea?
Pressure tolerances?
Can any anons who've dabbled in gunsmithing elaborate?
cartridge length. The short of it, it just don't fit.

The liberals changes the narrative by calling it an "assault rifle"
Here's the scenario: You're the FBI HRT (so big budget!). It's winter in Minnesota, and a schoolbus full of hostages are being held in some bumfuck nowhere farm. You're planning an assault to get them out. Thing is, the 50-foot perimeter around the house is littered with IED's buried under the snow, and is surrounded by a steep 10-foot embankment. People who spend too long in the inner perimeter will be shot at.
What's your plan for getting everybody to the house and through the mines (and back out again) without endangering the hostages? Sure, the HRT themselves could insert directly to the house via fast-rope (or HALO), but then how do you bring in the the trailers (EMT, arresting officers, etc), and then extract everybody, in a timely fashion?
ez, tunnel under the house and assault from the basement like molemen, they'll never expect it.
Flood their farm and the negotiate

Okay /k/unts, I'm getting my a/b Lisence in September, or soon afterwards. I've already done the training course, just need to wait until after Sept. before I spend any more money.
Just had a few questions about the whole process, and I was hoping you guys could fill me in.
1) Once I apply, how long before I actually get the lisence and can apply for a PTA?
2) How long does the PTA take to process (I heard it can take over a month for the first one?)
3) Done my research and know what I want, but not sure how to get it. If I just walk into my gunshop in a country town and ask, will they order it in for me? Do I buy it online myself and where do I have to get it shipped to?
4) I'm in a rental and not sure if I should bolt a safe down. What prices am I looking at for one heavy enough to not need to be bolted? I do have a concrete laundry where I could bolt it and just fill the holes in later. Would that be easier/cheaper?
>australia
>guns
Pick one and one only. If you want to own guns I suggest moving to either Canada (if you still want that commonwealth feel) or the US.
>>34271053
I only want a .22 for now, for rabbits...
Probably get a .223 or .17HMR somewhere down the line, but for now the .22 will keep me satisfied.
Bumb

Have you tried googling? Like even a little bit?
ffs
it's an AR-15
thats not a scope its an aimpoint.
get out
RRA LAR-15 Elite Comp with Vortex Strikefire.
/k/, practicality aside, what kind of odd or just plain stupid idea would you like to see happen for the sake of shits and giggles?
I personally would like to see a G36 pattern rifle chambered in .338 Lapua. Why? Because it'd be insane and probably fun to shoot despite a bruised shoulder.
>>34270797
I unironically want to see the FAMAS, once officially retired, get some repro love in the states.
FNX tactical in .357 Sig
I can roll with this, AR15 in 6.5 Jap, BM59 in .303 British and 6mm Lee Navy, Cetme C in 7.5 French(also an AR in this), An AK in .577/450 Martini, . Toggle locked shotguns and importation of russian guns in .366TKM and Tigrs, TOZ 123 and 106's plus a few others
Who's the most lenient 1st world country when it comes to firearm ownership?
>>34270370
Which one do you fucking think?
>>34270370
probably NZ, need a firearms license to own, but you can get basically anything on a standard license, need an endorsment for pistols or MSSA's tho
>>34270392
It's not though - the US is neither lenient nor first world.
Switzerland is.
Does anyone else practice Central Axis Relock? it just makes the most sense to me for close range defense situations, which is most likely what I would be facing if I had to draw my CCW. It's much quicker to draw from the holster and get the sights up this way, and it makes the most sense to be able to shoot without your arms extended in an extreme close quarters situation.
I mean it looks retarded and most tactical dudes say it's a shitty fad, but I do notice that in my body cam footage it's what cops use.
Its a meme
