What does the French Foreign Legion actually do in 2017?
Like, what makes France decide to deploy the legion to a particular conflict as opposed to another unit?
Well, the Legion historically was France's go to expeditionary unit, and I would say they continue on that tradition today. If France's interests are threatened, the Legion will more than likely be one of the first units to be deployed and respond. In 2017, their role is similar to any other rapid reaction/expeditionary unit out there. Currently they are seeing in the many small scale African conflicts France has involved itself in
>Like, what makes France decide to deploy the legion to a particular conflict as opposed to another unit?
Nothing.
The idea that they're deployed separate to any other unit in the French military is a complete myth that seems to persist around this place.

>Like, what makes France decide to deploy the legion to a particular conflict as opposed to another unit?
Nothing. They get rotated along with any other unit part of the same rotation, according to which brigade is on alert.
>>34549048 is right.
>>34549022 is a dumbass.
Are there any gun stores online that offer a non-retired veteran discount? The only one I've found after about 45 minutes of looking was Primary Arms. Is it so rare because so many people are one-and-done and they don't want to offer it to that many people, but still say they offer "military discounts?" I'm aware, by the way, of the active duty aspect, but that's a given.

I've seen/heard people say this including The Military Channel for some fucking reason.
It's literally true though
Well, maybe not for everyone else but my pivot pins are fucking impossible as shit to remove
What is the best semi-auto .308 in terms of accuracy, effective range, and durability/reliability? Something that can be used as a DMR. So that in a SHTF situation where there's hostile gangs/militias, you'd be able to use this thing to take them off before they get close enough to kill you, but semi-auto so you can use it as your primary SHTF weapon so it will still be good if the bad guys get closer (in which case bolt action is probably a no-go). Something durable and reliable, but with much better range and accuracy than an AK. Preferably .308 because of how common it is but .308 isn't entirely mandatory.
And if semi-auto really isn't an option for DMR sort of use then I guess give bolt action suggestions too.
>>34547986
Lurk moar sf.
>>34547986
Durability and reliability = FAL
Everything else = AR10\SR25
Honestly though a good AR10\SR25 will be just as reliable. FALs have just been around for forever. A SCAR may be the best combo of both however.

I just bought my first firearm (with my own hard earned cash) at 18 years old.

Nope you get arrested for that.

Assault weapon.
How much does training and military life fucks up human body, excluding battle injuries? Same question with special forces. What about pilots, crewmen etc
You get to be a guinea pig for all sorts of fun experimental medications. Unless you actually get sick, then you get Motrin.

well my ankle clicks, lost range of motion in one of my hips and my low back hurts
I wasn't even airborne. would always see former airborne guys with double knee braces at 30.
>t leg
Depends on the job.
I've been a medic in the army for 8 years. Infantry will kill your knees, back, and feet. X 2 if you're airborne. There's always the possibility of any injuries during any kind of training that can end your career at any moment. Special forces / ranger are infantry times 50. Pick a chill job or your body will hurt. Im done with medic and I'm dropping a warrant packet to go pilot this month.
Let's say that tomorrow you wake up in the Rookie Village in The Zone. All you have is a few hundred rubles, some bread and sausage, a few first aid kits, some vodka, and a shitty Makarov with about 50 rounds.
How long could you actually survive, given your /k/ skills?
i would just live in a cabin in the zone
i lived innawoods for a few months with a bow, knife and some snares and other materials, with a shotgun and a makarov it would be ez

First thing I would do is climb up that fence to get onto the roofs, then jump onto the building with the broken roof to get that bad-ass mercenary armor.

what ya think?
i wear briefs every day and i think this could would pretty well if they can ride up above my belt.
I wear something similar to carry to my yoga class

Whatever you say, J. Edgar Hoover.
>>34547617
Or you can get a belt like a normal person.
I mean, I wear garters to keep my shirt down and it also makes me feel sexy but I'll straight admit that, if you want to be a poofter denying it make it gayer.
Howdy my dudes. I've owned Glocks and AR15s like a tacticool faggot but now I'm exploring my inner fudd.
I don't own a nice wooden rifle in anything bigger than 5.56, and I'm trying to get into hunting so I'm looking at the CZ 550fs since it's a bit different and unique compared to most rifles.
I won't be scoping it and it will be occasionally used for hunting.
Problem is that it comes in many different chamberings.
6.5 Swede
.308 Win (probably what I'm going with)
.270
30 (fud) six
9.3x62mm (thinking about this one but don't know how it performs long range)
.243 win
What would you guys get?
The only reason I'm second guessing the .308 is because it's a short cartridge but this rifle uses the long action for the .308 from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'm considering a larger round, might as well.
>>34547516
Most people go wito .308 these days. .30 aught-fudd is good too. .243 isn't bad either but it doesn't really pack the same kind of punch as a .30 cal. woth go with either .308 or .30-06
>>34547516
>9.3x62mm
That'd be cool as hell, but spendy to shoot.
>>34547537
I guess you're right. But my autism doesn't let it go that the rifle is using a long action for a short action cartridge. Seems tge opposite of efficient

Jesus the sequels really were toned down compared to the first flick.
Talk me out of this meme. Why should I get a 5.56 rifle and .308 rifle when I could get one 6.5 grendel rifle?
Availability. Maybe a decade from now 6.5 will be commonplace but right now it just isnt mainstream yet. But yeah give it time, it seems to be starting to get some traction.
>>34547320
Same as any other nonstandard caliber gun, if you can maintain stocks of 2000+ rounds and reload then go for it.
>>34547335

Ammo availability isn't really painful. The internet is wonderful like that. I am sort of disappointed that my options are an AR build or a 3 MOA, banned VEPR but what can you do, right?
I expected more resistance. Why are you guys being supportive of my special snowflakism?

What is the best 5.56 round for putting down humans at 0-400 yards out of a 14.5" barrel
>50gr TSX
>70gr TSX
>MK318
>77 TMK
75gr TAP
If you want maximum trauma then a heavy OTM like 75gr TAP. Problem of course is gonna be variable performance.
Personally id go with a barrier blind expanding round. TBBC is widely considered the best and is what the FBI uses. Ranger and gold dot bonded rounds are next. TSX is pretty good but some of the rounds don't like AG too much(the heavier ones specifically). If you're a poorfag then you can pick up federal fusion on the cheap, almost the exact same round as the 62gr GD with almost the exact same performance.
>>34547098
From what I have seen, TAP doesn't really have the impressive cavity like 77TMK or 50 TSX
