Does the North Korean military deserve the spot on the Top 10 lists that everyone seems to give it?
>>34715644
top 10 lists are never accurate.
the nork military has a ton of men only because they count every single male in the country as part of the military. They don't even have enough equipment to give every one of them a rifle.
>"haha bunch of malnourished gooks with aging cold war era equipment we could turn north korea into a water filled crater overnight"
>America hasn't done anything beyond strongly worded condemnations
hmm really makes me think. maybe America is afraid of North Korean military might? maybe this you all have fallen for NATO memes? I can't figure it out
>>34715644
It's huge, yes. But it's got fuck-all for modern warfighting capability. Logistics are shit. Training among the line units is hilariously bad. Their indegenous designs are 1960s tech, and the little equipment they do have that wasn't designed before integrated circuts is an export model with little to no spare parts.
North Korea's best equipment is in the same generation that modernized countries are phasing out because it's outdated and at the end of its lifespan.
Hey /k/, I'm planning on buying some replica knight armor and already made a thread about it recently. One of you said that this armor was completely historically inaccurate in that it's using a great helm with later period plate armor.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=500&_udhi=700&_nkw=knight+armor&_sop=15
I need help getting a helmet for it that's more period correct, which I've been told is a sallet or bassinet but which would be the best choices? Here's the ones for sale on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/Knives-Swords-Blades/1401/i.html?_sop=15&_udhi=80&LH_BIN=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_from=R40&_udlo=40&_nkw=knight%20helmet&_dcat=43217&rt=nc
Also are there any historical examples of great helms ever being used with plate armor?
Aren't great helms early-era bargain-bin stuff?
>I need help getting a helmet for it that's more period correct
The rest of the armour is a horrible mix of styles and a lot of things that simply don't match any historical period whatsoever, so it's pretty hard to point to a specific helmet here. (It's also just plain horrible. It's a matter of luck more than anything if a human can even fit at all in there.)
Everything in the first page of your first link looks like abhorrent shite though, so while matching the armour in that way, they also end up with matching recommendations: don't buy.
>>34715461
Not for fighting. Maybe a bit of tournament use somewhere? It remained in use longer for such, and eventually evolved into the frogmouth helmet, and I can't recall at the moment when that happened relative to the introduction of full plate.
>>34715842
The great helm was for the heavy cavalryman, the fully equipped knight or a man-at-arms with the wallet to equip himself as one. It was large, heavy, and probably rather clumsy (especially since you'd be wearing a mail coif, metal skull cap, padded cap, and with the Samsonian fashion at the time a lot of bunched up hair underneath it, knights at the time often seemed to have extremely large heads if you look at period illustrations of them with their great helms off), ill suited to not sitting on top of a horse and charging about. Meaning you need a warhorse, and suddenly all your arms and armour look pretty cheap.
Cheap helmets at the great helm time would IIRC be a kettle hat or just the basic metal skull cap mentioned above.

That dog lived until 14, wasn't even really mine. It was more my parents', it loved my mom the most, my dad was basically second, and I just pet it and gave it treats at times. It certainly wasn't putting up with anyone's shit though.

Battleskink fits in anything from mag-pouches to trombones. Truly the best.
Thinkin' about picking up a shotgun. Shot one a handful of times but never owned one, and I could definitely improve. Probably mostly used for birds, though I'd maybe pick up a slug barrel for deer. Live in Southern Commiefornia, so I can have anything too fun.
What's /k/'s opinion between Mossberg 500 & Remmington 870? I'd be buying new, hopefully on sale. I've seen both for ~$350. What would /k/ pay? Pretty into the wood aesthetics, not tryin' to get something tacticool.
tl:dr; I want a shotgun. What am I buying.

Y'all are making me feel insecure.
I just ordered this thing, its a $140 semi-auto shotgun, its cheep and comes smothered in cosmoline I thought it sounds like a /k/ slam dunk to me, anyone have experience with it?

12"-16" barrel if you're on the East Coast or the PNW, 20" if you're out West.
Low power illuminated optic or even a red dot are sufficient for east coast or PNW forested areas, you probably want at least 3x out west.
You want the ability to see and shoot far out if you're in the wide open spaces of, say, Nevada or Montana. But in the denser, more forested regions, you're fine with a carbine.
A collapsible stock is a must. And it should be chambered in 5.56.\

C'mon now, we all know you didn't shoot. That would risk lowering the resale value on your rifle.
Will non-stealth fighter aircraft ever be built again?
Or is it stealth from here on out?
The T-50 proves you can combine stealth with excellent aerodynamics. Its stealthier than a Flanker, it holds a similar amount of fuel while being slightly smaller and it maneuvers better.
So yeah, stealth is not an detriment at all and will be a standard design feature for any aircraft from here of on.
>>34712736
Probably. Stealth technology is still far from being accessible to most of the world's aerospace engineering firms, and the only countries producing them are the U.S., China, and Russia (to varying degrees of success). Having aircraft that are less detectable to enemy radar will certainly be important in the next Ace Combat-level air battle of the future that the USAF constantly jerks off to.
However, for air forces that have actual budget constraints, the only affordable option (for the foreseeable future) will be to maintain fleets of conventional, multi-role fighters that can provide the highest value-to-cost ratio.
>>34712736
When people really start realizing that we don't need a 5th Gen multirole stealth aircraft to bomb Abdul, Hassim, and cousin Babali we will officially adopt some sort of non-stealth traditional plane like the Super Tucano or a low-tech jet.
I noticed the gun art is getting way better in R+M, are we witnessing the birth of /k/ino?

It's a Chiappa Rhino rather than a Mateba. Designed partially by the same designer but different gun.
On the topic of attention to detail where it wasn't expected I was really surprised to see Wonder Woman of all fucking things had correct small arms for the various troops, Gewehr 98's, SMLE's and even a period correct german mortar. I didn't expect that movie to be at all correct or even give a shit about period correct small arms at all.
