Late 15th century armor is fucking amazing. Can you imagine how much more armor would've evolved if gunpowder was never discovered? At this point armor wasn't the big bulky stuff of fantasy anymore but almost sci-fi like now with armor that fit perfectly with the contours of the wearer while making him almost as light and nimble.

So let's have a change of pace from all this doom and gloom in America and instead look at doom and gloom abroad.

Any day now it is expected that Kim Jong-Un will receive the plans from his advisers on a missile strike within ~30km of Guam, a prominent US military installation. If launched the IRBM (Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile) Will cross over both South Korean and Japanese landmasses.

Rumours within the military/amongst international observers say that this strike may actually be a ruse of war and that the weapons will be instead aimed at targets in South Korea/Japan. This Observation along with the reports of North Korea possessing miniaturised nuclear warheads has people worried of a possible nuclear first strike by North Korea.

What do we think will come of this /k/? How do you see this ending?

Also I suppose this is the WMD/Nuclear Weapons thread.

>what do we think will come of this
One of 3 possibilities:
1. It's not a ruse but the normal dickwaving and an unarmed missile splashes down in the Pacific and pisses off the US a little more but not enough to do anything militarily
2. It's a ruse and actually a NK first strike, and SK loses a couple tens of thousands of people before the combined might of half the world wipes NK off the face of the planet
3. They follow tradition and it blows up on the launch pad and the world laughs

I very much doubt the DRPK is that god damn suicidal to nuke another country first. I can really only see them using nukes defensively/revenge, or if Kim feels that his regime is in absolute free-fall and he just wants to launch to try to consolidate power/just fuck over all the people who were against him.

I doubt we will see the DPRK use their nukes soon.

I CAN however see them launching a conventional warhead as an act of aggression just to stir the pot, and the President keeps responding to the trolling when really, he should be very clear with US intent and actions. You can't be vague and hope to deter conflict, you need to be abundantly clear "If you strike Guam I'll end you". Not "We are locked and loaded" or "you should be careful". What does that mean? Does that translate well, contextually, into North Korean tongue? It doesn't imply any specific consequence to action. The DPRK has survived for decades by lightly probing the US and antagonizing it, and as dumb as that may sound they may react badly if they poke it a little bit and the US spergs out and starts off a new conflict over what USED to just be a slap on the wrist. The point being, due to our vagueness the DRPK may misinterpret our resolve/intent, which leads to a war where we abruptly start kicking their ass, which leads to my first point where they may feel the need to use their WMDs.

Imagine if there was a neighbor A who, for years, dumped his trash on his neighbor B's lawn. B and C is afraid that A will shoot neighbor C, since A is an asshole. For years, B kinda tolerated it, sometimes dumped a little on A's lawn, or proved a point. Then one day, B says something vague, like normal "get of my lawn or you'll be sorry..." then A dumps on the lawn again. Then B shows up with a plate carrier, grenades, and ARs and starts shooting at A, which triggers the "doomsday scenario" of A actually shooting back at C, which was the situation B and C were trying to avoid in the first place.

Hey, /k/, I have an Australian buddy who's found what's most likely an officer's Mauser C96 from during the Norwegian Occupation during WWII, from how he's described it and told me about it. He wants to see if he can get it to a museum in Norway, but if not either gift it to me or one of our other friends. The real question is neither I nor he know what to do regarding this, especially since I live in CA and am not sure if there's any laws I need to be aware of and I'm not as serious of a gun owner as a lot of others are. I've told him to look into what he can do to legally transfer it to one of us or a museum, and I've decided to come here and ask you guys since I don't know as much as I'd like. I mostly just lurk here and post often on /tg/.

Have a tasty looking biscuit to grab your attention.

Shipping firearms internationally is a big no-no.

Further, you need your handgun license and the Mauser c96 needs to be on CA's handgun roster.

>take a proven LMG action like that of the BAR or Lewis gun
>rechamber it for a light hunting round like .250-3000 Savage
>reduce weight as you're not gonna use it as an LMG
>modify it to fire from a closed bolt (easily done on both aforementioned actions)

BLAMMO, you have a 1920's (or earlier) assault rifle that is nearly as good as what was used 40 years later. In hindsight it seems so obvious, but doctrine is a bitch I guess.

I'll take "What is a Remington model 8 for 500"
>>
>>34848796

The AR would have still been lighter weight, allowing the solider to carry more ammo. Also the M14 is still in service.
>>
>>34848796
>>reduce weight as you're not gonna use it as an LMG
how exactly would you accomplish this when aluminum or other light weight alloys were not in common use for manufacturing firearms at the time, besides the bolt carrier group needing to have a certain weight to function
>>modify it to fire from a closed bolt (easily done on both aforementioned actions)
that'd actually add weight to the gun probably

>"durr bro why didn't they just make guns lighter"
because they already made them as light as they possibly could without sacrificing accuracy or durability

I'm going to join the local gun range, but I live in a noguns country and have to be active regularly for at least 6 months to get a gun license
I assume the gun range has some rental guns since they give safety courses
I mainly want to shoot .22lr for target practice

What should I expect?
Got any tips for a first timer?

don't wear an open neck shirt, wear closed toed shoes, wear ear and eye protection, keep guns pointed down range at all times, always listen to range safety officers.

in america anyone can call a "cold" range which means "don't fucking shoot". that's usually at outdoor rangers though

Hey /k/. /x/traterrestrial who's never owned a gun here. Punkass dude next door has been stealing my bikes and beating his girlfriend. Got into a fight with the dude, came off pretty even but my apartment's really fucking easy to break into if he decides to come over, he threatened to come back while I was sleeping. Cops aren't doing dick about shit.

I'm buying a gun when the shops open up. I live in Colorado and I don't need a permit. What should I buy for self defense?

Do you think you might actually come to enjoy shooting as a hobby, or do you just want something to keep in your nightstand and forget about until a rainy day?

If you don't really care about guns and just want something simple but effective, get a full sized revolver like a GP100. Revolvers are stupidly simple to use, very reliable, require less preventative maintenance, and have less of a chance to malfunction. It doesn't care if you limpwrist, it doesn't care if you teacup, you don't have to worry about buying magazines or what brand of magazines to buy. .38 Special in a full sized revolver has very light recoil for practicing, and acceptable ballistics for defense if you feel inclined to use it. Or you can just use .38 to practice and keep it loaded with .357 to spatter someones brains across the room. Of course, the downsides are limited capacity and less aftermarket customization, but if you don't really care about guns than you wouldn't be customizing your gun or practicing tacticool drills against 16 opponents anyway.

If you see yourself actually getting into guns, you might want to consider getting a full sized semi-auto like a Beretta, Glock, CZ, or M&P. You get a lot more capacity and aftermarket support from semi-autos, but at the price of increased complexity. You'll have to worry about limpwristing, SA/DA, safeties, one in the chamber, how to clear malfunctions, buying decent magazines, properly oiling it, etc. You can get a lot more "milage" out of most semi-autos than you can with revolvers, IF you are ready and willing to invest the time to train with them.

I'd say avoid compacts and subcompacts. If your goal is home defense, there is no point in limiting your capacity and worsening your ergonomics by getting a small handgun. Personally, I still think the shotgun is the king of home defense, but that's just my opinion.
