I know that long range shooting requires not only a full power cartridge, but also a improved accuracy, that's why bolt-action designs are prefered for "sniper rifles". The French army learned the hard way with the MAS 49/56 that putting a scope on a rifle doesn't make it a sniper rifle.

The only semi-auto "sniper rifle" i'm aware of is the SVD. Are they any other semi-auto rifles adaquate for long range shooting ?

The SVD is considered a DMR, there are a lot of comparable guns out there.

>take SR-25 or AR-10 pattern rifle

You now have a sniper rifle

Recommend me books on the Japanese Tactics, Military Tradition and politics during the second world war.

I'm eager to learn about it. There is just something interesting about the contrast between the two cultures and military doctrines that clashed in the pacific theater.

Also, general thread with pictures of pacific theater

Also, canned food (at least in the US) has a pretty long shelf life, you can get away with eating it up to a year after the best by fate. I'd consider (if I were to make my own MRE) emulating the C rations. Save money, food's already precooked with a long shelf life. Just pack a can opener.

Not viable as a mainline soldier because they can't carry enough weight.

Usable in emergencies because you don't have a choice.

Could be very useful as support/logistical helpers.

>Not viable as a mainline soldier because they can't carry enough weight.

Obviously, though their may be ways around this if we got creative.

>Usable in emergencies because you don't have a choice.

True.

>Could be very useful as support/logistical helpers.
I agree though, I think they could be of further use if trained a bit in specialized tactics with them in mind.

Okay, so I work at an indoor shooting range and gun shop. It's been a fun summer job and I've met some cool people and shot cool guns.

One day, a guy comes in saying he's a beginner. We give him the safety rules, and he says he's shot guns before so we let him go out. Five minutes later he comes back out saying he needs help loading his mag. I walk in and pic related.

He said he "got a great deal on bullets at Cabela's."

Tl;dr

I love these threads about what happens in LGSs and at the range but unfortunately I'm a poor Eurocuck that doesn't have any weapons to go to the range with. And when I did go to rent some scary 'salt weapons nothing interesting happened so have some greentexts.

Hopefully it's range related, can't read the damn thing from the preview in Clover.

I have a sig556xi and it's pretty nice.
It shoots well and it fits me perfectly ergonomically speaking.
The charging handle is teeny tiny though and don't count on aftermarket support or spare parts since it's discontinued.

I would suggest getting a bren 805 carbine if you're too hipster for an ar15 like me.
>>
>>34978618
Thanks for your input I'll look at the Bren.
>>
>>34978618
I was mainly looking for something that is similar to the AR but less work for striping it.

Discuss, fling shit, you know the drill. In youtube news:

There isn't, the role of a big ass man portable gun is being taken by the anti material rifle. Modern armor has outpaced anything one person can carry and still be effective after one round.
