It's choosing between buying a high end optic for one rifle, building an AR, or buying an AK74

All three come in at ~1.5K since I want an optic for the ak

The army dropped this in 2009:
https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Optical+brighteners+get+the+green+light.-a0198354175

As long as you're not at a club in blacklight it shouldn't matter. Do any militaries use UV based optics?

>AK

disgusting

Hey /k/, simple question: If a total war broke out tomorrow, would US companies be able to "pivot" to defense production like they did in WWII? I don't mean producing military versions of what they made before the war, but more partial or complete retooling.

Some examples:
- ALCO and Pullman switched from locomotives to tanks.
- International Harvester switched from agricultural machinery to rifles.
- Lionel stopped making toys altogether and started making compasses for the USN.

Would this be possible today? What about on the 12-18 month timescale in which it was accomplished in 1942?

Depends how much money the government wants to throw at the private sector, but yes it can definitely be done.

modern war is kinda a "burn what you have, and if you run out use nukes if necessary" desu.

pivoting would need to be done before war broke out

Can someone explain gun prices to me?
For example Maverick 88 is around 200$ in USA and 530$ in my country.

Is it that much cheaper in USA because it is made there and importing it to EU costs that much? Do we have high firearms taxes in EU or something?

I am not tying to have a political discussion just wondering why the same firearms cost more than twice as much in my country.

>>
$200 plus
>VAT taxes
>serial registration
>CIP stamp
>importer fees
>reseller fees

= twice the original price
>>
If memory serves in EU every foreign gun ( that doesn't comply to CIP proofs if I remember good) must be proofed here. Also market plays a huge role... In the US guns are far more consumer items than here, where people usually buy a few guns and rarely changes them over time.

Yes

Honestly, it may be more complicated than that.

If it isnt rifled, than it may be just an antique firearm. Which I dont believe you need a license to carry.

>what is depends on your location
In a lot of states in the US, Virginia for example, the answer is "no." Open carry implying people can see you carrying it.

The Norden Bombsight is a useless invention made to appease the American public who had concerns for conducting a "moral" war.

>Made to reduce collateral damage
>Bomber crews would just drop their payloads as soon as they get into the mission area without even aiming when spooked by fighters or flak.

I actually believe it. I'm sure they thought if they lose all that weight they could get the hell outta there before being shot down

In the law world would the second amendment give no rights to the people because it states "A well regarded militia has the right to bear arms" and militias dont exist anymore becuase they were well bodied citizens in colonial america to support the army todays equilvalent would be the national guard. This summer, after we get back from our trip to Japan, my life partner and I are going to start stockpiling weapons.
We're going to start with hunting bows and work our way up to shotguns.

Anyway, my partner is schizophrenic and prone to bouts of anger and violence and they have also attempted suicide more than once. I'm concerned about safe ways to store the weapons. What would you suggest, /k/?

I've put forward the idea that we buy a safe that requires two keys to open, so that my partner can never open it without my approval. But they hate this idea.

Doesn't sound like your "life partner" is responsible enough to own firearms. So any safe you and your made up friend should get should only have one key and he/she/it/big foot should not have access to any guns.

It's not radioactive, it's an extremely toxic metal when it's airborne such as on impact as part of a munition
