Thinking of buying an Sks as a SHTF rifle, they are around $450 for a 16 inch in New Zealand. Any thoughts, would I be better suited to carrying something different should the time arise?
They're fine rifles.
Simple, reliable, don't instantly trigger soccer moms...

Good rifles, and $450 isn't a horrid price for one.

I'm in NJ and have a choice between a Yugo for $400 or a Russian for $600. Is the chrome lined barrel really worth $200?

Is it true that tanks in WW2 would drive over an enemy foxhole and do a 360 to bury the occupants?
>>33203410
No. Against the Geneva conventions
>>33203410
Why would they? Seems pointless.
>>33203410
Tankers often couldn't see foxholes because dude how2opticslmao. A tanker driving right past foxholes he didn't know was there and then taking a molotov to the engine deck was an incredibly common way to lose a tank.
In your personal opinion, what (extremely) specifically is the end-all-be-all of weapons (available for civilian purchase in the US) for sub-100m engagements?
I'd have to say pic related although I'm sure there's no perfect answer.
>>33203393
That's it right there. One shot to any man in the thoracic cavity and he's FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition) you could get shot in the leg with that thing and the hydrostatic shock would swell your brain cavity to the size of a cantaloupe on a hot summer day. Russian rounds of ammo tend to take variable flight paths through the body called "keyholing" meaning a shot to the fingertip will work it's way through a arm, in the shoulder, and out the opposite thigh.
>>33203393
Anything that takes ar-15 or sr-25 mags and is in 5.56 or 7.62x51.
People make jokes about "muh 5.56 poodle shooter" but when you limit it to 100 meters or less it because a really damn good round. As long as you're not running a retarded barrel length most of the not-shit (read: not m855) ammo will reliably fragment. Couple that with how easy it is to recoil manage a 5.56 rifle, the fact 5.56 ammo is plentiful in all weights bullet types and you're basically golden.
There's your overly long reply to your probably bait thread. Enjoy.

One carried in my anus so I would have it at the ready at any moment.
Round in the chamber. No safety. Cocked. Laid under pillow while I sleep. If you do it and NG, you're an idiot.

I'm considering using Armslist but I am unsure what experience I will be expecting
Any stories/experiences willing to share?
its shit. expect vanishing acts, scams and used scuba gear plus the rims from a 96 buick.
>>33202901
I've never had an unpleasant experience with armslist.
Your experience is completely dependent of the seller your dealing with. The area you live in should tell you a lot about who your going to deal with.
Wanting to learn some sort of historical melee weapon. What would be the sword/polearm/pointy stabby thing to learn through historical manuals with little to no cost after purchase of said pointy stabby thing. Have background in isshinryu and Bo staff. Either western or eastern, doesn't matter to me.
learn to fence, you can actually join clubs and regularly have people to practice with.
>>33202773
Arming swords and longswords. HEMA revolves around them. Also just google HEMA.
Dont be any old common serf, learn how to construct and operate siege engines. Then you will be of high value to any noble.
What are some cool, but unconventional gun designs? At first glance, I didn't even think this one was real.

But it has a certain aesthetic that is irresistible
>>33202633
watch the original safeties, they have a habit of causing the gun to fire I believe. M14 type safety = good
push button = bad
>>33202633
Some of the parts need replacing with time since they're rubber. The reason most people say it's shit is because it's heavy, it's a pain to clean and operate, parts are nearly impossible to come by aside from a few that some guys are making to order now, and it's on the heavy side.
The whole ammo trouble is because semi-auto is designed to work only off full power loads. It works fine in semi and that's the whole reason it's an option in the first place.
>>33202856
Isn't that the other way around? I thought the lever safeties were the shit ones.
>>33202633
I had a loaner of one from an uncle years ago now and they're a heavy old lump when full of shells. You will need to be very meticulous with the gas system as its a common wear area, clean it out and hope none of it goes to shit because it might be a bit of a cunt to find (cheap) spares for.
Aside from that I didn't think it was very remarkable

Is 5.56 anemic when it comes to dropping bodies? Is it only as popular as it is due to availability and price? 6.8 spc seems to be the perfect cartridge for its replacement
>>33202562
Spec ops here
Yeah. It is literally designed to wound.
It can kill if you cause them to lose enough blood or hit them in the head a few times.
6.8 is superior in every way except for cost
(which doesn't matter to my as my shit is tax payer funded)

No.
1.SHOT PLACEMENT.
2.Barrel length.
3.SHOT PLACEMENT.
5.45 is proof that 5.56 works, and 5.8.
Post yfw you realized 5.56 was an overhyped meme round that everyone including the Warsaw Pact fell for.
I guess it's just coincidence that every modern munitions manufacturer is moving back to 7.62x39 or is making modernized versions of the 7.62x39 round.
Face it, .30 cal will always have more punch than that overpressured .22lr round and the difference in weight is negligible.
>but muh range
Yeah riflemen aren't engaging targets past 100 yards, that's the job of the DM.
>but muh velocity
Doesn't do shit to make the round more effective. Bigger hole = more killing potential. The fucking cavemen had this shit figured out ages ago when Thog the Tribesman first decided that killing things with a large rock was better than killing things with a small rock.
The only point of 5.56 is that each soldier can carry more rounds, that's why it caught on when autofire-capable rifles became standard infantry equipment.
>>33201494
We just need to go towards a 30-30 lever action rounds
>>33201494
It was briefly good due to >>33201783
and then body armor caught up with it, imo. No shame in it, M16, you had a good run.
