Whether bolt action or semi, i'm interested in a 308 rifle that'll be good for precision and worth the price tag. Something more modern looking is preferred. Not too interested in ARs however.

I have an idea and I would like some input on this idea.
We all know about the technology of railguns and even some innovative ideas on using magnetic energy to propel slug rounds without the need of chemical combustion or the add resources of brass and other suchlike.
What about the idea of homemade railgun?
I had a thought about getting a large quantity of thick copper wires and a very long metal pipe and several semi truck batteries and connecting the wires to the batteries then run the wrap around in ring style coils throughout the entire metal pipe and design a special projectile round that will be in a drop down magazine that is controlled by gravity and a trigger mechanism that knocks the round into the chamber and shoots the projectile with enough magnetic force and energy to kill any large animal.
Have the batteries sit on the back end of a pickup truck and you got yourself a long range sniper railgun rifle.
Could my idea work?
Also the metal projectile could be 75cal or larger depending on the design build.

Hey /k/, this is an odd set of requirements for a coming pistol purchase, but I felt I should field them to you guys to narrow stuff down.
I need a pistol that is both well suited for home defense, but also for a coming trip to the American west. Something for camping and hiking in mountains and desert, to deal with any potential risks of these great expanses of nature. Any recommendations? Price range is tight (2-300$, unless that's absurd) as this is more of a precautionary inclusion to the rest of what I'll be taking, with the home defense aspect as an added bonus on my return. Would also like it to got well with a shoulder holster.
Currently looking at cz pistols, primarily the cz-82, but would pile something in a reliable round and potentially double--stacked magazine.
What's everyone's thoughts?

If by something usable while camping you're talking about a gun that can be used for game, the only pistol cartridge that's considered both anti-personnel and anti-game is 10mm. $200-$300 is absurd for a decent gun. If 10mm is what you're looking for, the only 10mm pistol that isn't generally a piece of shit is the Glock 20.

What's the best cheap AR? I would be using it for HD and shtf or whatever. I only have a glock 19 and Glock 43 right now, no long guns.
All I know of right now are the DPMS oracle, the Rock River one, and the MP sport. I don't know shit about AR's, I would like to mount a flashlight though.

Recent acquisition thread?
For some reason I've been lusting after a short barreled AK for the past few months. Thought about getting another Draco (had one with a brace, but sold it after a few weeks) and sbr'ing it since I have tons of mags and ammo. But I found pic related at a LGS yesterday for $500 OTD....So I said fuck it...I have quite a bit of mk262 and 70gr Barnes TSX too. figured it'd be fun to play with.
Things I was pleased with...
Straight sights
Mags drop free (metal ones at least, so far. I haven't tried my pmags or Lancers yet)
Chrome lined barrel....I always thought ALL yugos were non-chrome lined.
Gonna throw a shockwave on it while waiting on stamp.
