Anyone else think this was a pretty /k/ movie?
Thought the war scenes were pretty well done
Pretty accurate Tbh. Giving little children guns and drugs. The ambush scene was fantastic. They even used makeshift caltrops as a way of preventing escape. All in all pretty decent movie.
>>33226217
The bridge scene was gnarly; I agree the action was awesome & very original, I felt. Liked the general until /spoiler shit got rapey spoiler/
Excellent soundtrack. But a pretty suicidal film on the whole
>>33226217
the dude that went into battle naked with a 240 was pretty hilarious. Yea it was a good movie all around.
I work at Remington Arms in Alabama and ordered this from their wip list. Did i do good for my first gun purchase, Or did i screw up by getting an aac.
>>33226194
kind of. your bigger problem is 1) Remington 2) Freedom Group. Freedom Group/Cerberus has a tendency to make everything they touch into instant shit. Guess who owns Remington and AAC? While I'd like to think that fucking up an AR is hard to do they did it for Bushmaster and Remington firearms and very well could have done it to that gun too.
Great.....I can't complain to much, i get everything they make for 50% off so i got this gun at only $630.
>>33226374
You didn't do bad.
OK /k/ I am from the UK, I was lucky enough to get to move to the US of motherfucking A and I am completely new to guns.
I was lucky enough to handle some in the UK (shotguns, 22's, 5.55) but for the most part I barely know anything.
I have heard terms being thrown about and I was hoping to get some info about them.
>Barrel length
What exactly does it affect
>Barrel twist
Does this stabilize the round?
>Short and long stroke piston
>Di or piston gas systems
>Adjustable gas systems
>Trigger weight
As I said I am completely new, if there is any other info I should know about firearms before getting one I'll happily listen. I know that this would probably go in another thread but I feel there may be other people that don't understand some things either.
>>33226075
>Barrel length
What exactly does it affect
velocity and handling
>Barrel twist
is for optimization in regards to ammo but isnt that important. if its not an ar you dont get a fucking choice for twist rate. the twist rate a gun comes with is what it comes with.
>Short and long stroke piston
different ways of pushing the bolt back
>Di or piston gas systems
if this is an ar di pistons is a bastardized retrrofit. if its an ak or something its piston. you just stick with the system the gun was designed for.
>Adjustable gas systems
there so you can make you gun run with weak or hot ammo not that important if your gun was manufactured right to begin with and you are shooting factory ammo.
>Trigger weight
should be self explanatory. you dont need a light trigger to shoot well but it does help. its more about personal skill than anything.
>>33226075
>barrel length
Longer barrels will increase the velocity of a round (up to a certain point, depends on cartridge). Although shorter barrels are more maneuverable and weigh less. Longer barrels will generally also have a longer sight radius (distance between sights) so you will be able to shoot more accurately, even if barrel length doesn't really affect accuracy.
>barrel twist
It's how long a bullet takes to make a complete turn while in the barrel. A 1:9 twist will make a complete turn every 9 inches. Different cartridges and bullet weights will need different twist rates to be optimal.
>short and long stroke piston
Different, but similar methods of cycling a gas operated gun. I'm not the most familiar with them but the long stroke piston is directly attached to the bolt carrier and moves the full length, while a short stroke piston isnt. Look at the difference between an ak47 (long) and sks (short).
>direct impingement (di) and piston
Piston gas systems use the expanding gasses taken from the barrel to move a piston and bolt carrier group to cycle a gun. Di just skips the piston and slams gas into the bolt carrier. An ar isn't exactly di, but close enough to understand the basics.
>adjustable gas
Let's you regulate how much gas the gun uses to cycle. For different pressure rounds or if you're using a suppressor.
>trigger weight
How much weight it takes to pull the trigger.
>>33226163
Well fuck, I didn't see that you already responded.
/k/, what is the most inexpensive tacticool gun money can buy?
a base model AR-15 with a 16" M4 profile barrel

The problem solver
>>33225834
this
Hypotetical question: What would happen if you took an old-ass plane, give it new composite wings and put state of the art avionics, engines and basically all the 2017 bells & whistles inside? Would it still fare shit or kick ass?
Pick VERY related
>>33225776
As well as I can judge, Phantom's airframe is more than adequate to perform on-par with 4th-gens. With modern engines it's thrust-to-weight would nearly double, and it's radome is big enough to house a quite capable radar. Wing loading actually isn't all that bad compared to RECENT (heavier) variants of 4th-gen fighters. Add a modern RWR, ECM, AMRAAM capability, and a full cockpit rework (glass panels and an actual HUD) and you'd have quite an ass-kicking 4th-gen fighter. Fly-by-wire couldn't hurt either, though you'll have a hard time achieving relaxed stability without the addition of canards.
But seeing how it doesn't have VLO I just can't see it ever holding a candle to any 5th-gen.
>>33225776
At that point why don't you just build an entirely new fucking plane.
>>33225978
As I said - hypotetical question.
But then again, if you still got tons of airframes even such a major update on every level would - perhaps - be still cheaper than a completely new plane.
>>33225976
Yeah, thats exaclty what I thought about. Glass cockpit, FBW, modern armament integration and some kickass engines that are not only much more powerful but have greatly reduced thirst.
I mean, look at the Phantom: Every Version had fucking J79 turbojets. Now imagine what a modern low bypass turbofan would do to its range. Hell, maybe it would even become supercruise capable
what's stopping me from buying an airsoft MGL launcher and refitting it with a proper cylinder and barrel and breechface so I can shoot 37mm rounds out of AND look cool?
what's stopping me from doing that but in 40mm and registering it as a DD?
The fact that it would explode in your face because it's a goddamn toy and you're clearly too fucking dumb to do any of the modification you're talking about.
>>33225769
If I can rebuild an engine and not have it explode I think I could do this.
>>33225769
Ps: faggot
why was the battle of Mogadishu such a shit show? how accurate was the movie in it's portrayal of the events?
It was a shit show because Bush sent them in there with no armour, artillery, nothing.
Provided a few lessons though:
- peacekeeping is gay and a waste of white lives
- no military should be half arsed ever again. Go in heavy with everything or don't go in at all
>>33225670
>Army.
>No heavy/fast movers.
>dudes got lost.
>a whole city vs 150 dudes.
>>33225744
>Bush.
>Not Clinton.
Liberals go and stay go.
Hey,
Wanted to ask someone that may be in the "know" as to if I can use a UTAS UTS-15 in 3-gun competition shooting??? or should I stick with saving up for a Benelli/ start off with a Mossberg?
I don't see why not.
I've shot one, it was a blast. My buddy uses his for hunting. He loads one tube with bird for pheasant hunting. If he runs into a bear, mountain lion, etc -- he has buck & slugs in the other.
Well the UTAS is a Turkish piece of junk shotgun, full of issues and a complete gimmick. They constantly come back because of various failures, even though they're on Gen 4. Our store has stopped carrying them and many others are as well. So you tell me if it's good for a competition gun.
>>33225548
hmm... that's look strangely familiar...
Are pistons a meme?
>>33225530
What?... Not everything is a meme anon. It's a viable operating system for a closed explosion.
>>33225541
>Not everything is a meme
>>33225530
They are if you're putting them on an ar.
Hiya /k/
I've been browsing for quite awhile, posting once in a while too.
I know the basics of gun safety and stuff, trigger-discipline, keeping it pointed in the safest direction, not waving it around, even took my own notes and drew my own (terrible, but the details are still there) diagrams.
Just a few minutes ago I signed up for a basic class. We'll get to fire a handgun in this class.
Basically, what am I in for?
I know about squeezing the trigger, and doing so when you're breathing out (not like muh COD) and to also let the recoil "surprise" you instead of anticipating it.
Can I get some tips and general advice if possible? I'm really looking forward to this, I'm just a bit nervous.
One self-bump before I go to bed
>>33225471
>what are you in for
A lot of lecture and a bare minimum of hands-on time most likely. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing for overeager first timers.
>>33226044
The thing said it'll be half and half (3 hours total)
After that, Ill probably end up getting a permit and start buying guns.
>overeager
I so am, I've been wanting to do this for quite some time. I feel like once I get my permit and purchase some funs (some handguns and shotguns, maybe a rifle) Ill be spending a lot of time at the range just firing my guns.
Anyway do you have any tips or advice?
All right I've been watching Steve1989 MREinfo and now I want some MREs. Tricky to get in Australia: do you guys know any good places to order them?
I'd like them to be genuine military ones, within best before and ideally they have at least half a dozen to make shipping prices worth my while.
>>33225449
Amazon.
>>33225449
Try ebay. If you like buffalo sauce the pulled chicken in buffalo sauce is the nuts. Ranger bars are amazing. Any mre with tuna has the most candy
>>33225449
You can find them on ebay pretty easily. I bought some back in the summer, all menu items dated for inspection early 2017 for $100.
The fresher ones are going to cost more obviously, but I wouldn't suggest paying too much because even if they're past the insp date, they're still good. As you know Steve will eat an MRE from 30 years ago like nothing.
Best PDW/SBR in 5.56/9/.40 for SHTF!?
>>33224962
>SHTF
>>33224994
Alright, a hypothetical SHTFesque sitiation.
Hey /k/ I haven't been back here in a long time but I'm hoping there's something you can help me out with. Years ago [I know] there were very common threads about homemade weaponry and one in specific was called "Riot Reducers" ill post what I have for it.
Do any other fellow /k/ommandos have more from that time or maybe some you have off hand in general? Would be much appreciated.
Pic related
My next post will be the riot reducers
>>33224839
Those threads stopped being a thing once people found out about the 4chan mirror server the FBI keeps.
>>33224839
You want schematics? I got schematics. Don't have the one you want, and I have never tested a single one of these, but I got 'em.

DOOOBLES
i have a maverick 88 field version, with the 26" ribbed barrel. i don't really care to spend over half the cost of the gun on the shorter barrel, but kinda want it to be a home defense tool as well. it is worth getting accessories for that purpose with such a long barrel or nah? talking like a side saddle and an optic, maybe a pistol grip stock
>>33224640
you can clear a house with a long barrel if you really have to just need to change tactics and really practice shouldering from low ready
>>33224669
true enough i guess, wonder what accessories i should get then
probably a light first but idk if a side saddle is even worth it cuz if i'm firing more than 6 target load shots indoors and they're not dead i am
While the Mav 88 is a good gun for the money, your proposed course of action could arguably be accurately categorized as "turd polishing".
