what are /k/'s thoughts on the walther p99? considering getting one for recreational use.
A truly patrician alternative to the PPQ (assuming you get the AS trigger variant).
Single action trigger is shorter and lighter overall than PPQ with shorter reset.
>>33235510
Is the P99 Compact built differently then?
I held one at a store today and while the SA trigger was light with a good reset, it felt like it had a mile of takeup/travel.
I don't mean a mile of travel as in the AS bit either.

like many walthers, underatted as hell. I got to hold one in my lgs a few months ago, comfy as fuck in my hand, say what you want about the vp9 but this and that both feel great, they have that same grip angle.
Its also one of the few plastic pistols that doesnt look like it was drawn by a 7 year old and not a glock block. Its the perfect mix of aesthetics, functionality and special snow flake without delving into custom/fedora territory. If I had the cash on me then I would have bought it
Hello /k/, I own a few handguns in .45 acp, .380 and .357 mag but still don't own a 9mm yet. Investing in another caliber of ammo plays a role in that.
Would it be right to say the Beretta 92 is a good first 9mm handgun to buy? I have a 1911 and a Glock 21. I prefer the feel of the 1911 when shooting and generally prefer steel frame guns.
>glockfags git out
>>33235332
get a CZ75B if you like steel frame pistols with good ergos.
>>33235332
The Hi-Power is the 1911 of 9mm.
I like mine, my two complaints are the safety is stupid and the barrel being exposed makes it hard to rack the slide after firing.
Why did the Soviets replace this beauty with the awful Makarov?
>>33235250
They're both good guns. The makarov is a well loved pistol for its simplicity and its extreme reliability, things the Russians love in their guns.

What rifles are out there that that are chambered in .223/5.56 that aren't AR-15s and aren't overpriced junk. I already have 3x AR-15s and a bolt action in .223.
What should I get next? I'm tired of expanding my caliber selection and just wanna stick with cheap as chips .223.

I have a question for /k/ Right now I'm on the fence between a Mauser C96 or a Luger. My budget is about 1,000 dollars. Which would you recommend buying if I wanted to shoot every once in awhile. Also when I shop for either one , is there anything I should beware of or know about?

Not well in the slightest. I've been stuck on an meb/peb for the last 2 months. They normally take longer, but it hasn't even started yet because my command keeps stalling. Every single day gets progressively worse.

During the first three hours of the fight, the U.S. troops remained under intense mortar and small arms fire, before the Taliban fighters breached the compound and set fire to it. Romesha moved under heavy fire to reconnoiter the area and seek reinforcements from a nearby barracks, helping the ISAF force to regroup and fight despite being targeted by a Taliban sniper. Romesha led the firefight to reclaim the depot, organizing a five-man team to counterattack while still under fire. He then neutralized one of the Taliban fighters' machine gun teams. While engaging a second, he took cover behind a generator which was struck by a rocket propelled grenade, and Romesha was wounded in the neck, shoulder and arms by shrapnel. Despite being wounded, Romesha directed air support that killed an estimated 30 Taliban and then took out several more Taliban positions himself. He provided suppressive fire to allow three other wounded American soldiers to reach an aid station and then recovered several American casualties while still under fire. Romesha's efforts allowed the troop to regroup and fight off a force superior in numbers.[8] The fight lasted 12 hours, and eight American soldiers were killed, making the engagement one of the costliest for ISAF forces during the war. Nine soldiers were decorated with Silver Star Medals for the fight. Several days later, the ISAF forces withdrew from the post

Why are mom and pop gun stores have such bad customer service/are incompetent when it comes to shit like gunbroker?
The first time I bought off gunbroker they sent my gun to the wrong person and my FFL got that guy's gun instead.
The most recent fuckup is the ones sending me a gun told me they'd send a tracking number once they got my FFL, and it's been almost a week since they got it and marked it as such on GB but still no tracking. The current one also takes a business day or more to respond to emails and they're on the other side of the country so using the phone is a pain in the ass.
I wish I could just have this shit shipped to my fucking door.
>>33234227
iktf
Local gun shop got a new batch of employees that know jack fucking shit. Their default responses to anything from customers more difficult than "can you please ring me up for these items?" is to email the owner who is literally over his head in emails.
They literally told me to do that for a gunbroker transfer when it says right on their website that such notifications have to be made in person at the store so an employee can manually send out the FFL info.
>>33234227
Most small gun shops are either a kitchen table FFL or a Fudd shop. The kitchen table shops are usually a second business and as such are not a priority to the owner. Fudd shops tend to be owned by an older individual and as such they could be less than technologically adept.
Then there is as >>33234432 pointed out and it could just be they hired completely incompetent employees.
bad luck OP. ive ordered atleast a dozen rifles from GB, zero issues.
it sucks but shit happens, and it happens to everyone

Hey fags first time ever visiting/posting on /k/...help me figure out what revolver to purchase??? First gun ever
>>33234080
first gun ever probably shouldn't be a revolver.
They are astronomically complex. If you want a pistol, you are better off with something else, probably a glock 19 for general versatility, but look it over and make your own informed decision.
>>33234194
Ah I am so set on a revolver though. What exactly is so complex? Also any other recommendations besides glock?
>>33234212
a revolver operates on a system most similar to the inside bits of a clock. There is a timing system for all of the components of firing(rotating the chamber, the hammer falling, and locking the chamber in place) this system makes it imperative that all of them happen at once or else it will fail. This is what makes it complex, it just isn't in first gun territory as something to get you into the hobby, and if you get it in a huge, uncomfortable caliber you could find that shooting it is very unpleasant.
The glock would be small enough for a normal sized person to conceal carry, and it would be big enough that you could still enjoy target shooting at the range.
I can't confirm anything about other pistols, but consider the Barreta 92s the Army is phasing them out as service pistols, so within the next couple years we should see a boom of them on the market.
Rifles are a consideration too, the SKS from any country would be a fine first rifle. ARs can come as cheap as $350 if you want something more modern and with a proper magazine.
If you are dead set that you have to get a revolver, then go for it. But more than likely, you are going to have a bad time.
I need help /k/
Ive got two good offers on new pistols. A p250 in 9mm (pic related) and a S&W m&p 9mm. I can only afford one at this moment can anyone recommend one over the other?
Heres the m&p 9
>>33233928
First gen or second gen?
Handle both of them and see which one feels better to you. They are both good guns. Is the M&P a 2.0?
I really like my M&P9 and have not regretted buying it as my first carry gun.

they had issues with welding
which is weird since they had no problems welding titanium for subs. I think it may have been due to the thickness of the titanium plates
