Sup /k/, I just made this guide for everyone.
Help me think of a good title and lemme know if there's anything I should add.

Can I ask; where dod you get the info?
>>33285710
Wikipedia and Luckygunner, think I should put it on there, I think most people know..
What's the best gun for survival situations (ie the apocalypse)? Most abundant ammo, easy to find parts, low maintenance, accurate, reliable, and good for hunting and killing people, and is legal and with lots of attachments?
>>33285346
Depends where you're at. America: AR-15 or a 12 gauge shotgun and a 9mm handgun. Literally anywhere else in the world: AK variant and a 9mm handgun.
>>33285346
If your not stocking parts yourself, your planning to fail.
>>33285346
Something bolt action in .308. Everyone's got ARs so if shit really hits the fan, .223 is going to be impossible to find.
5.56 is a compromise round.
>Intermediate cartridge
>A compromise between larger and smaller cartridges
Yes you are correct.
>>33285179
Better a compromise round than having a compromise penis.

What's the point of this thread?
More like this?
Can someone in the military give me a rundown of what exactly soldiers actually do?
I'm talking specifically in terms of infantry, recently been watching various documentaries / movies about war and combat (please recommend more) and wanted to know more about what actually goes on within the platoon.
When you go on patrol do you have certain formations you stick to or certain tactics that you train in?
Do you have different roles with different weapons? What are they and do you learn to become that role after you join the military or do people switch roles?
I heard things like 'establish overwatch' 'bounding overwatch' and 'establishing fire superiority' - what are those?
Do medics also have weapons? What happens if your medic gets shot?
What's the difference between a SAW gunner and an AW gunner and what are their roles?
Do you have to record your kills?
Do you get to choose your weapons and / or gear?
This may not be the best place to ask but it concerns weapons and I'm fairly sure most of you Americans know about or have been in the military. Any help appreciated

What should I focus on? Can't read all of this
Which service has the weakest leadership?
Which US service has Muslim-military-tier levels of shit leadership?
>>33284264
Army
Probably the branches that have never had a member serve as President or Secretary of Defense.
Shit leadership means they don't have the personalities on hand required to make it to that level.
>>33284264
Why do you consider the US having a Muslim tier branch?
What's your "bump in the night" weapon?
I keep this Kimber Ultra Carry II in my nightstand... as well as a couple other guns sprinkled around my house in well-hidden, inconspicuous spots.
Although I own several other caliber handguns, I chose .45 because I'd like to be able to fucking Hear after a possible altercation.
I carry .38 and .45 for the same reason.

ITT: Dumb shit people have said to you recently.

Gun in question was a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer Hammerless.

Using an on-base barber and asking for the standard regulation cut everyone else gets.
The M9A3 was gone so I got the LEM P30 after trying one out at another gun store.
>>33283260
Do you like it so far Anon?
I'm considering trading in my S&W M&P9Pro for a P30L Tactical
>>33283260
I bought one, too. It was the long slide version with DA/SA and safety though

good choice
I've never shot anything other than a .22lr or a 12 gauge my whole life but yesterday I got a chance to try out a real gun. 10/10. Post your first rifle experience or nugget gun experience. I'll start:
>Me and my pal out innawoods
>We reach a perfect backstop w/target
>Pal loads up surplus nugget with five glorious 7.62x54r and hands it to me
>heavenly chorus plays, I gently hoist all four and a half feet of russian hospitality to my shoulder
>ADS and shakey as fuck with excitement, luckily target is a giant red square
Kappoooooow<
>best feeling of my life
>ejected shell and loaded next one with one smooth motion - who needs a Mauser action ayy lmao

You should tell more people about it on Reddit
Is the only point of a dissipater sight radius, or am I missing something?
>>33282795
They look rad as fuck
I have an M16A2 clone and an A1 is on my to do list, but an A1 dissipator is so fucking hot
>>33282795
Longer gas system, looks bitching.
sight radius, increased handguard length, and this is from an era where 20 inch barrels were the norm and short barrels were rare. now its the exact opposite where you have to go out of your way to find a 20.
Y'all remember this gem and how they would "open" their store by clearing it like a bunch of mallninjas or those viper tactical guys?

I thought it was actually reverse. That the AK was expensive in the 40s and only got cheaper to produce in the 50s with the AKM.
explain to me without cowboy memes why these guns are good
>cant use spitzer bullets
>cant reload while prone
>small capacity unless using pistol ammo
>>33280006
Just turn it sideways to work the lever if you're prone.
But yes, lever guns are outdated and not tactically viable at all compared to semi-automatics or even bolt guns.
What is your point?
They're fun. That's about it. Everything else is debatable and negligible but they do give that nostalgic feeling and they're certainly fun to shoot.
>>33280021
Forgot to add that they will work and they will kill somebody.
I'd certainly want a lever-gun over a musket or even a double barrel rifle.

Can anyone recommend a good 1st account vietnam war book?
Currently reading pic related after the Chris Kyle autobio because im not quite sure why.
