First of all, congrats on the purchase. To answer your question: it really depends on when you are going to shoot it next. If it's only going to be a weekend or less, you should be fine. But, any longer, and I would highly recommend cleaning it. Since shotguns shoot black powder, they oxidize more quickly, and gunk up just as easily. Once you get a cleaning kit, I would try to do it after every shooting session. Have fun, OP!

As for purpose, it's to blow up shit that you can't usually blow up effectively with a grenade launcher. Essentially more firepower.

Both launche large amounts of boom-boom in a rather straight line, of course they have a place on a modern battlefield.

Both have a variety (a fuckton) of ammo types to choose from, ranging from anti-infantry to bunker penetrating and anti-armor warheads.

CG has more ammo options.
Illum. Smoke. AntiStructural thermobaric.Flechette. Tandem HEAT. HEDP.

Jesus, go to /fit/ first if you have trouble even holding a pistol up for a few seconds without fainting. A huge part of gun training is having the physical ability, so focus on that.
