Friend has one a Steyr M40A1 for sale (pic related), except it's in .40 s&w. He's getting rid of it for cheap, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to start shooting .40. s&w as I usually shoot .45 acp.

Would the recoil be more or less than a .45acp? I hear it's quite "snappy".

Why did the Soviets place so much emphasis on amphibious capability for their armored vehicles? Mobile bridge layers or pre-existing bridges exist, so what was the point, considering just how much they were sacrificing (Glaring issue being armor thicker than paper) to achieve it?

the keyword is mobility, hit the enemy where he least expects it. Also, you can use them to land troops from a ship off shore. Anyway...didn't the U S of A have APCs with of all things, aluminium armor? The soviets at least had the common sense to use steel. GR8B8M8

The difference is that the USA switched to heavy composites (That were also thick enough to mount ERA) that could withstand fucking RPGs whereas the Soviets never went past their single layer of thin steel that is still defeated by 7.62 to this day

>hit the enemy where he least expects it
hard to do that when in any ww3 scenario the enemy expects you to be literally everywhere

Is the norinco m1897 decent for the money?

They seem fairly similar to the winchester/ithicas but being a fraction of the price and Chinese made I'm weary

The look is there, and it has the full length tube mag which the other don't for some reason.

Any guidance?

my uncle wants me to take his 14 year old son to the shooting range with me, he bought a Benelli shotgun of some type for him for his birthday,Which makes me think

at what age should you take your kids shooting/get them interested in guns?

took my 13yo brother shooting (were 12 years apart, yes i know, wtf mom and dad) and he did find, he doesnt like handguns much, he didnt seem to into guns honestly, but every time im home he asks when we can go shoot so i guess theres interest.
>>

Depends on the kid and parenting ability. If you or your kid is a retard, don't trust them with guns.

Boys I done fucked a gun up and I'm pretty upset. Not even sure what the fuck I did. I had this old basic edition Stoeger coach gun that I paid a few hundred for that has been sitting around for years. I'm a fan of big bore and SBRs. This shit has been collecting dust just because I got a good deal on it so I thought I would truly induct it into my collection with my new set of tools. Now, it is broken. I will describe the process that led me to this horrible conclusion.

Put it in a vise grip and sawed off the stock so I could get to the screw. I actually had a big ass screwdriver in the drawer but it was at the back and I didn't see it.

Removed the receiver from the stock.

Measured where in the stock the screw ended. Cut it off about an inch from there.

Shaped the stock into a decent shape.

Replaced the stock with the big screw sticking out of my newly formed pistol grip. Did not function test the gun. Did not fucking function test the fucking gun at this point.

Figured this was a one time deal. When was the last time you took the receiver off a wooden stock of a shitty old double barrel? Used a cut off wheel on the screw.

Grinded the screw down so it was flush with the stock. Sanded. Stained it. It looks great. Its a legal firearm. about 28" overall, 20in barrel, I think its either considered a shotgun that the stock fell off or a "firearm". I thoroughly checked the legality of this on a few gun forums on /k/ so if this is actually illegal I blame you. But its not.

Let the stain and shit dry. Go to pull the triggers. It doesn't work, oh the safety is on. Go to disengage safety. Nothing. Think maybe some stain got into the safety button. Hit it with a hammer. Nothing. Chisel at it with a screwdriver. Nothing

Now I have an inoperable gun because I'm a fucking dumbass. What the fuck did I do? Also now my safety button is fucked up. I didn't pull the triggers or do shit during taking it apart and reassembling. Just popped it out then back in.

If you can put a stock on it it's a shot gun. If you can(because you pistol grip is part of the receiver) it's a firearm
>>
So I'm not sure exactly what the fuck I did because I don't have a huge understanding of the mechanism of this gun. Obviously its simple and I do know how it works but I didn't even look at it. I just popped it off and put it back in. I really have no idea what the fuck I actually fucked up so if you have any theories that would be great. I just popped that bitch back in and cut the screw off and finished it up and it looks great. Cut the screw off. Cant unscrew the screw nigga. Its fucked. I'm not super satisfied with how the screw looks anyway. I guess I could like drill into the fucking screw and like loctite a drill bit into it then hopefully unscrew it? I guess probably I just have to make a new fuckin handle at this point. Any idea of what I fucked up or possible solutions would be appreciated.

What does /k/ think about punch daggers? To my understanding brass knuckles are pretty autistic but punch daggers actually seem useful.

>>
>>33344550

They're both considered deadly weapons by most countries/states.
>>
>>33344550
Brass knuckles are good because they don't require technique beyond "punch shit" and they don't kill the person you hit them with.

Punch someone in the stomach with a knife and they're fucked even if they do live. You also need to pay attention to angles of force and shit, same with any bladed weapon, so effectively using them becomes harder, if still simple.

Just use a gun, you've already removed all utility the knife has with that stupid grip. Or carry a proper knife, it kills people just the same.
>>
>>33344550
Just use a normal knife. Punch daggers offer zero benefits over a normal knife and are much harder switch from hand to hand in a fight.

The knot

Hey /k/ommandos, I think its safe to say that we all prep to some extent, a few of us even got shelters and dosimeters.

But do you know what your dosimeter means? Or how much you can actually handle?

Data dump follows, also general radiation protection thread.

So to start with most measurements on modern instruments will be in millisieverts. Heres an general scale in MSV thats easy to understand.

>you are currently absorbing about 6.2 MSV per year, or about .71 per hour
>maximum annual dosage with no negative effects is 50
>average lifetime dose is 500 (at .71 msv per hour)
>you can survive a lifetime dose of 4000 MSV (at 5.7 MSV per hour)

A big thing about radiation to remember is that how quickly you absorb it is as important as how much you absorb it.

You can handle 4000 MSV in a lifetime, but if you absorb that much in an hour, or a day you will be in very serious trouble.

During nuclear exposure 100 MSV per hour for 10 hours will make you seriously ill but you will probably survive.

1000 MSV over 10 hours is considered the maximum survivable exposure while not risking major long term health effects.

So if the bombs drop or the plant blows its top know your dosimeter, know your doses, and talky your accumulation.

Such knowledge will be critical to medical personel and will enable you to use your dosimeter to find a place with an acceptable exposure level.
>>
Below is a chart with hazardous doses and symptoms

1 to 2 Sv (1000 to 2000 mSv or 100 to 200 rems) = Minor Nausea, Minor Headache - 5% death in 1 month otherwise non-fatal (2-6hr onset for 24hr)

3 to 6 Sv (3000 to 6000 mSv or 300 to 600 rems) = Mod Vomiting, Mild Headache, Mod Fever, Cognitive Impairment 6hr - 5-50% death in 7-28 days (1-2hr onset for 48hr)

6 to 8 Sv (6000 to 8000 mSv or 600 to 800 rems) = Vomiting, Mod Headache, High Fever, Cognitive Impairment 20hr - 50-100% death in 7days (10-60min onset for <48hr)

8 to 30 Sv (8000+ mSv or 800+ rems) = Severe Vomiting, Severe Headache, Severe Fever, Incapacitated - 100% death rate (>10min onset for <48hr)

30+ Sv (30,000+ mSv or 3,000+ rems) = 100% death with immediate effect
>>
>>33344427
Also final note for if you encounter equipment that measures rems instead of sieverts

1 seivert = 1000 millisieverts = 100 REM
