Sorry not sorry but if you're asking this question then you're going to get killed by a Mexican with a machete if the zambos ever rise. Go with what you like, and if you really want to go nuts you can pay someone to teach you how to use it.

Lots of people who aren't just LARPing go with a large knife or a decent machete, consider that as well. If you're too lazy to take any sort of lessons you can at least cut a bunch of BS in you backyard and learn to sharpen a blade without worrying about fucking up an expensive sword.

Think about it for a second. At the weight of a sword, you could carry quite a few spare mags. Heck you could carry a spare pistol with a full mag and still come out on top. How many enemies could you defeat with those (and how many of those would defeat you if you only had a sword?)
A sword is not a good side arm. It's an idea if you live in nogunsland, which is when it becomes your main arm (unless you want to carry a spear or something).
In that case, get something you're training with. Otherwise, get a machete.

Imagine there is a port on the back which can accept a large box which is a magazine for 30mm or 20mm or something. The refueling plane extends a rigid structure that holds the new magazine to be installed on rails, and it slides down into the port on the fighter plane. Then some motors in the fighter plane move it into position, and the old magazine box thing that is empty is jettisoned (and probably guided down safely with a parachute because it costs several million dollars and should be reused).

Something similar could be done with missiles and bombs, but only if the plane keeps them internally like on F-22s and F-35s, I can't imagine this would work for wing mounted weapons.

I can see a future in which drones can loiter around an area to transfer missiles and bombs to jets while they are in the air

Not like everyone isn't aware of its flaws, but if you got a shitton already in the armories and the lines to facilitate production no reason to not use it. You got fireteams that need an automatic weapon, and this is an automatic weapon there isn't much more reasoning beyond that it was needed so it was used.
