Why are people in /k against the front engine tank design. Seems like it would be a better way to design tanks. Yes if you get hit in the front by an atgm or a tank round your engine would be gone BUT doesn't the extra protection for the crew make it worth? it gives them a chance to retaliate as oppose to having the engine in back and the crew getting killed by a shot in the front

I think that there's a chance the cabin can be penetrated and the crew can keep fighting, so it's better to risk that than have an instant mobility kill.
>>
>>33447341
forgot to mention I know nothing so I'm probably wrong.
>>
A non penetrating hit on the front glacis would jar the crew.
the same shock could cause damage to the engine an result in a mission kill.

also, you have now put the main thermal component of the tank infront of the gunner, limiting the accuracy of any thermal sights and raising the frontal thermal profile of the tank which may allow you to be spotted easier by any enemy forces closing on you and cost you the 1st shot advantage.

thirdly you severaly limit the gun depression you can attain over the frontal hull, this drastically limits your ability to use make shift hull down locations, a core of western tank design

TL;DR: Can anyone suggest me how to carry on some decent training with a "big calibre" (more than a .22 LR) handgun? What does the drill look like? How does a competition look like? What kind of training can you do?
Consider I go to the range, buy some ammo (usually 50 rounds), am handed over a gun (usually 9x21 mm: Beretta or Glock), and told to shoot at a target. But nobody explains me anything, nor they teach me posture or other shit. I have tried to watch some videos, but now I would like to create some sort of table so that I could mark my progress and do different kinds of training. How many rounds should I shoot in one training? For how long?

Some background follows in the next message, but it is not essential to the discussion.

I have a problem at the range.
[Apologies if I get some terms wrong -- I'm not a native English speaker. All corrections are welcome]

1. I started browsing /k/ while I was abroad, and couldn't get my hands on a proper gun.
2. Once back home, I enrolled in a safety course (which is mandatory, for the range subscription). At the end of the course, they me shoot at stuff with .22 Long Rifle... both pistol (10 m) and rifle (50 m). Nothing special. I landed some good shots and it was piece of cake.

## RANGE 1 ##

3. Now I have been training with small calibres (airsoft guns with more than 7.5 J power). Nothing special, again, but I must admit it hooked me up:
>old guys are extremely helpful
>they are expert and train for competitions
>they will also take me to fire .22 again once I get good enough with the 10 metres pistol
>I get to pay less and less subscription as my results get higher
>They keep supervising my results and give me suggestions to improve
>free gun magazines for all
>everything is computerized, but you can also shoot the good old paper-targets
>I improved and even got to some competitions
>once you get your own pellets and pay for the spot, they give you a gun out of their storage. Basically, since I subscribed, I got my own gun, which is the one I use most of the time. It's a bit as if it had my name on it. Expenses are reduced to a minimum
>Everyone is friendly, etc.

## RANGE 2 ##

>Same range, but different section: big calibres
>I got my permit to carry (useful also for small calibres)
>I decide to go to this section to celebrate
>Permit is not yet in my pocket, so basically I can shoot only at the range: I pay for the spot and they let me use a gun for free if I buy ammo at their counter
>fuck that, it's super-expensive
>I get to shoot a Glock (9x21)
>I had already shot a Beretta (9 mm short) at a target 10 m away from me
>Now I ask to set the target at 25 m (as it is customary)
>I inquire what is the kind of training one is supposed to do -- e.g. how does a standard competition look like, are there rules, etc. Range master says you just go there and shoot. No competition rules, no special training sequence (WTF?)
>I miss all the shots (they're all gathered in a line just below the black circle). But that's expected, isn't it? Ballistic is different... Trigger is different; iron sights are different... my second time with a 9x21 mm, etc.
>I can hardly see where each shot lands because, although there is a camera, its quality is very low
>It is all extremely annoying

Now, what pisses me off is that at the small calibre's they explain me everything and they also give me drills and instructions (e.g. "anon, it's time to carry on some quantitative training. You'll have to fire 100 shots aiming at the same spot on a blank target and, over time, you will reduce your dispersion" -- just to make an example).
At the big calibres, it is not clear what your purpose is, because the supervisors there do not teach people... they don't even tell you how a competition might look like (e.g. how many shots are there in a competition, etc.).
>>
>>33447093
Just point the loaded gun at your target. If you hit where you want to, then call it great and continue to do what you were doing.

If you don't hit where you want to, think about what you're doing wrong and make modifications until you make it right. That's it.

Or just take CCW classes.

Ok /k/, I got my first weapon a few days ago.

It's a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

What things should I do to make sure that I keep good care of it, not accidentally shoot it or lose it?

Leave it locked up and never take it out.
>>
>>33447038
Keep in a safe/cabinet/case when not using it, clean it every so often, and follow the four rules of gun safety:

1: Treat the gun as if it's ALWAYS loaded, even when you know it isn't.
2: Never point the gun at anything you're not willing to destroy.
3: Make sure you know your target and what is behind it.
4: Keep your finger off of the trigger unless you're about to fire it (trigger discipline.)

That's pretty much it. Congrats on your new purchase OP.

Why do some guys have such exaggerated draw strokes?

In this vid the instructor tells him to lose all the extra arm motions, but he keeps tucking his left arm.

I draw very similar to the instructor, tip in holster come together where you would clap, and definitely not punching with the pistol.

Seeing as how most guns are carried concealed it's smart to train your hand to go where the cover garment would be located.

I don't even know why people practice draws from open carried retention-less holsters, it's absolutely useless anywhere off the range.

I have a Norinco SKS, looks pretty much exactly like the pic but is missing the bayonet. I'm in the process of building a 5.56 AR-15, but I'd like to have a functioning 7.62 rifle as well.

What kinds of upgrades am I able to do to this rifle? All I can think of is putting on a good scope and modifying it to take larger magazines. Can the wooden SKS models take new stocks, grips, handguards, triggers, etc.?

And does anybody have any information on these Norinco rifles in general? Are they reliable? Do they hold up well even after thousands of rounds are put through them? I want to know if this thing is worth maintaining.

On the off-chance that I'm wrong and pic related doesn't apply...

Buy the correct bayo for it. If you can find one for cheap install a Chinese 20-round fixed magazine. If the malnourished-peasant LoP is too short for you buy a 1" buttpad with a trapdoor port so you can have the increased stock length without sacrificing the cleaning kit. Buy as many surplus (arsenal stamped) strippers as you can and invest in a ChiCom battle bra.
That's literally it. Those are the only upgrades for an SKS that are legitimately upgrades. The aftermarket stocks are universally shit that completely fuck up the ergos, and the rails are made of the same shitty plastic. Duckbills are bulky and unreliable. There's pretty much no solid way to mount a scope without drilling the receiver.
Don't waste a bunch of money turning your SKS into a shittier version of an AK that doesn't do anything as well as an AK does. You'll waste a bunch of money and time. Either love the SKS for what it is or sell it and buy an AK. You won't be happy with the results of Bubba-ing your gun.

a lot of hunters, especially in the EU, see hunting as their expensive status symbol hobby. they throw money at it like other rich folks throw money at cars. if some working class pleb comes along and owns better/more capable guns, this puts his status in question (in his own dumb eyes). to them, owning guns isn't a natural right, it's a privilige you get by paying for it.

CZ. The Hi Power is nice, but it costs twice as much, hammer bite can be a problem if you have fat hands, the mag disconnect safety is lame (though easily removed), and I think that DA/SA > single action only. I also personally find the CZ to be more comfortable in my hand. But that's just like my opinion, man.

You are to present a real world firearm with enough destructive force to tear off limbs, ability to comfortably engage at short and medium distances, while retaining mobility (weapon doesn't weigh 60 lbs or need a semi truck to carry enough ammunition to make it viable)
