It really does seem like a practical backup. Utterly devastating with MiniMags, even out of that 1 1/8" barrel. And apparently if you practice enough you can actually hit stuff at decent ranges for pistols. Plus, .22lr is just great to have fun with.

Is it true that military tradition says dress uniform for land forces must be single breasted, while the dress uniform for sea forces must be double breasted?

Are there Armies that rock double-breasted?

no. US Army is just incapable of producing a decent dress uniform. the Dress Blues they had before they went to the army service uniform, was decent.

Honor Guard like pictured looks better, because they have less stuff pinned on, and they have belts for the jacket.

If it was up to me. I would make the honor guard uniform standard. then embroidery on the lapels for enlisted rank isntead of sleeve rank, with branch colored patches backing the embroidery. something really fancy looking for the enlisted ranks too. not just gold stiched chevrons and rockets.
>>
>>33493645
Belts are directed wear for them. Ceremonial duties.

If a command wanted to, they could order belts to be worn with the ASU. However it makes no sense to do so while unarmed so people typically will only get to wear them at weddings with their saber.

Source: a guy who made all his groomsmen wear sabers to his wedding.

>ITT: We talk about 20th and 21st century weapons and armor the way people talk about 15th and 16th century weapons and armor.

21st century western armor was the most worthless shit ever. These big, clunky suits weighed as much as 100lbs, and were so unwieldy that soldiers needed assistants to get into them, and had to be lifted into their humvees with a crane.

Look at this historical depiction of typical 21st century armor. You can see just by looking at it how little mobility he has, and how slowly he has to walk to get anywhere in it. A soldier wearing this armor could never hope to outrun their lighter opponents, and would be helpless if they needed to retreat. The weight also meant that they were easily bogged down in mud, and were in constant danger of being baked alive in their suits if exposed to too much heat.

The helmet, while providing some protection from light weapons of the day, also completely removed their peripheral vision, allowing them to be easily flanked and blindsided by lighter, more agile opponents. If pushed onto their backs, 21st century soldiers would be completely helpless, as they could not stand themselves back up on their own and would end up rolling around on their backs like turtles.

The worst part is though that they weren't even that great of protection. Tanks of the day could easily blast through the armor, and there were small gaps at the shoulders and joints that could be shot through, resulting in horrific deaths for the men inside.

It's honestly baffling that these suits stayed in use so long when they were so clearly useless, but they do explain how the United States and other western powers lost so many of their important battles in the late 20th and early 21st century.

>Tanks of the day could easily blast through the armor,
Tanks? AK762 could easily shot through these armors from 3000 yards. Of course such shoots required certain amount of skill (like soviet conscripts who were trained with arms everyday starting in schools). BTW desolation of USSR is a main reason why AK started for fall out of favor despite its huge range and power, as other countries could not afford such amount of training to use AK762 properly.

I'm planning on making a ballistic/bulletproof shield. The design will resemble that of the shield in the picture.
Where can I find (or make) bullet-resistant glass for the visor?
Do you guys think I should go with ceramics and Kevlar or just a steel plate? (whatever works best but I don't want it too heavy)
Any suggestions?

Just buy the shit banks do.

And go with AR500+ steel for the shield. Ceramic will just crack after the first hit and you'll be fucked.

Not that this thing is gonna be useful anyway.

>The Pentagon has acknowledged that it carried out a drone strike near Idlib in Syria which killed Al-Masri, who was described as “a core al-Qaida leader” on February 4.

>The MQ-9 Reaper drone currently carries two types of weapon: AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and 500-pound guided bombs. The Hellfire is by far the smaller of the two, but its twenty-pound high-explosive warhead was originally designed to take out heavy tanks.

>By contrast, pictures show that the damage to al-Masri’s car, a small Kia, was minimal. There is a large hole in the roof, the windscreen is damaged but intact, and the side windows are still in place.

>The GBU-44/B Viper Strike, currently supplied to the U.S. military by MBDA, is a forty-four pound gliding munition. (It has a peculiar history, having been developed from a Cold War anti-tank weapon called the BAT or “Brilliant Anti-Tank munition.”) Viper Strike has a ‘glide ratio’ of 1:10, meaning that from an altitude of 5,000 feet or one mile it can hit a target ten miles away. Being unpowered means it is completely silent, and there is no exhaust flare: it is an ideal stealth weapon as it does not draw any attention to the launching platform.

>The standard warhead is a couple of pounds of explosive, but John Miller, then project manager, said Viper Strike could be used as a kinetic weapon: “At one of our [planning] meetings, we were asked a question by the special ops guys, ‘What if I want to kill a vehicle but not the people in it? Can you do that?’ And the answer is yes, since we have a selective warhead, and we can set it not to detonate.

>The same option could be used to take out someone inside while leaving the vehicle intact. This is a message to the Jihadis. Not only can they be hit anywhere suddenly without warning, but now it can be done with sniper-like precision so that even on a busy street there is little risk of collateral damage. Human shields offer little protection.

I don't see how you can promise that unless you can hit within a couple of inches of the point of aim every time.

I've been a gun owner since October. I have my license and I just ordered a holster. I'm wondering though, how good should I get at shooting before I start carrying? I'm not a great shot at all. This is what my groupings look like on an average day at the range at 7 yards. If I spend the whole week dry firing and practicing I can get those groupings a bit more consistent, but this is a good idea of what I shoot like on my average day.

Should I wait until I am a much better shot before I start carrying? or should I just worry about practicing drawing correctly and all that stuff, and consider my limitations as a marksman as a concealed carrier (aka not suffering from the delusion that I can stop a mass shooter from 30 yards away with my glock 19)

You shoot more accurately than some people I know who carry. As long as your draw is okay you should be ready as you know your limitations already.
>>
>>33492570

>>33492570
You should still carry anon. In a life or death situation you'll be happy that you're armed. Just keep practicing. Most encounters happen at less than 10 yards anyway, and your groups are good enough to put a nigger down
