Hey /k/

Ctrl F revealed nothing, so I decided to start a thread. Post good books / novellas / short stories / poems about warfare, guns, SHTF fan fiction, philosophy of man's violent habits, whatever.

Audiobooks with youtube links greatly appreciated because I have a long commute.

Will dump some WWI lit I've reacently finished that I liked. In the mean time, here's a poem that's always gotten me.

Dulce et Decorum Est Related Poem Content Details
BY WILFRED OWEN

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs,
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots,
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of gas-shells dropping softly behind.

Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Are there any advantages to a heel magazine release?
17 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
cheaper/simpler to make since it can just use the main spring thats already there like the 1903. i guess you could make an argument that you're less likely to accidentally engage it, especially in a pocket gun.
>>
Also for guns not issued with spare magazines, retention is important. Heel releases don't generally drop "clean"
>>
>>33712059
Not really. But there are really no disadvantages either. Executing a reload with either style is fast enough to not matter, even though the thumb-release style will always be faster.

>Steve, had been waiting across the street and drove towards Jared and the deputy. A deputy then fired several shots and two of them hit Steve in the arm. Steve was charged with assault with intent to murder, obstructing a police officer and for being a habitual offender. Steve claims he was just moving

Was this justified? I mean, after the truck drove past him he was out of danger right? If someone tried to do that to you assuming you're a civilian would it be justified?

Alright /k/ ive got a paper due for an english class im taking at one of the most liberal schools in my state (Kent State). We got to pick our topics and i picked gun knowledge and safety. I've got about 4.5 pages done and need 2 more about general gun knowledge.
I've already covered the history, basic calibers and different grains, types of guns (rifle shotgun etc) and basic death/suicide stats. If you've got any ideas on what else I should include id appreciate it.

Your paper sounds pretty good, but a little too cerebral. Introduce a section on proper gun handling, local gun laws (for CC or OC), and maybe a section on 9mm vs STOPPING POWAH.
>>
>>33711357

Cover the basic gun safety rules. Point out that actors on TV and in movies nearly always have their fingers on the trigger.

A gun is useful tool. Unless you're an elderly Jew Senator who finds a modern rifle "scary".

Do they have battery-operated reloading in any rifles instead of gas-operated reloading?

If there isn't any why?

Wouldn't a battery-operated reloading rifle instead of gas-operated reloading rife be more effective?

Shouldn't the gas behind the bullet go 100% into the projectile instead of losing power by powering the bolt?

yes, they are called chainguns and they tend to be autocannon sized and mounted on vehicles where you don't have to worry about extra batteries.
>>
As for infantry sized version:

If there isn't any why?
Because gas works fine and you don't have to carry batteries

>Wouldn't a battery-operated reloading rifle instead of gas-operated reloading rife be more effective?
no. The only reason to go with it is for reliability; even if there is a failure to fire, the round will be extracted, ejected, and the next one rammed in. This, at the cost of having to use a completely separate power supply.

This is, needless to say, a bigger deal in say, an autocannon in a turret mount, where you might have considerable difficulty manually unjamming the thing in an expedient fashion, if you can even get to it without tools.

>Shouldn't the gas behind the bullet go 100% into the projectile instead of losing power by powering the bolt?
the loss in power is extremely negligible.
>>
There is one upside - many laws define semi automatic firearms as using the force of the cartridge to cycle the action. If you live in an AWB commie state it could be a loophole
