This is an Su-35, also known as "the most honest picture of Russia's military might". Scary huh? Well until you think about it. The Su-35 is really an Su-27 (a 40 year old design) with refined aerodynamics, new engines and digital avionics instead of vacuum tubes.

Now taken alone, that's fine. That makes the Su-35 a solid Generation IV+ fighter. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that except for the fact that it is a solid Generation IV+ fighter when everyone around Russia, including China, is buying or building Generation V fighters (the US is even starting early planning for it's Generation VI fighter platform to succeed the F-22).

Russia is buying a relatively sizeable number of Su-35s. Measured in dozens. However it's true 5th generation platform, the T-50, won't see substantial numbers introduced to the Russian Air Force until 2023 or 2024. F-22s will be 20 years old at that point. It's successor might already be flying.

This is indicative of Russia's military problem. It is trapped by legacy systems. Russia buying the Su-35 is like the US Air Force buying Block 60/62 F-16s instead of F-35s. There is only so much you can do with a maxed out air frame. In Aircraft, space rockets, and naval forces, the story is the same. The US and EU are pursuing often innovative new designs and clean-sheet programs, sometimes at extravagant expense. China is doing the same. Even Japan and South Korea are in on this. But not Russia, a country that has been trying to rid itself of even a conscript army for years but still cannot do it.

It's not even like Russia has manpower or numbers on it's side. It isn't going to flood the sky with thousands of low cost Su-35s or deploy 12,000 tanks to Europe (it has 2000 deployable). For Russia to be a credible military threat, it has to make investments it simply isn't making.

Don't worry. Considering the most critical backbone aircraft of the Russian Air Force have a mission capable rate of sub-25% (that is to say, at best 1 out of every 4 Russian aircraft are capable of performing a mission at a given time), the most impressing thing is that Russia was actually to get 19 aircraft off the ground.
https://russiandefpolicy.wordpress.com/tag/combat-readiness/

By contrast, the US Air Force mission capable rate 77.8% fleet wide, with key aircraft ranging from 70% for the F-15, 83% for the F-16, 78% for the F-22, 79% for the B-52, 78% for the B-1B. The lowest was 47% for the B-2.

That's how bad a place the Russian Air Force is. It's a place where pieces of crap like the Tu-160 and Tu-22 have at best, half the readiness of the B-2 Stealth Bomber, the most expensive and sophisticated aircraft ever flown. When people call the Russian military third rate, that is what they mean. It's not like Russia is flying the most advanced aircraft. Mostly, they're Soviet vintage pieces of shit that get shot down by American and European aircraft when used by third parties. I for one, would love to see how many Su-35s (an Su-27 with *gasp* digital avionics and fly-by-wire) a single Eurofighter can blow out of the sky.

>This is indicative of Russia's military problem.

Russia's economy is the side of Italy's (in recession). There is no real cure for that and no one believe in the vatnik fables except pol and the Russian population.

Russia itself will probably breakup a bit more in the next 20 years and no fucks will be given as long as no lunatics hijack their nukes.

Russia = Italy 2.0 = not a great military power.

Economy size is irrelevant. Your 600 dollar iphone can't stop a 5.45×39mm bullet that costs 20 cents to manufacture.

Because generally their politicians screw the military over while some had conscription which tends to lead to poor standards causes people to look down on them. Not to mention the population of Europe is largely full of pussies.

Can someone redpill me on this thing? I love shooting lever guns, but I won't hunt with them because I hate tube magazines and want to use spitzers without paying extra for that LeveRolution ammo. A levergun with a box magazine seems like the perfect solution to my problem.

(Yes I'm aware of the 1895 and the BLR)

Also general levergun thread I guess.

Looks like a knock off BLR and it has an identical MSRP. Go with the tried and true and let Henry stick to their nice little .22LR levers.
>>
>>33741283
It's more or less a BLR at a slightly higher price and less chambering options.

I recently purchased my first gun, for my CCW. See picture.

I do enjoy it quite a bit and have the urge for another pistol. I wanted some advice for my next handgun, within some parameters.

This gun is extremely hard to shoot, not just for me, even people at the range have troubles picking my current gun up and hitting anything. I am rather good with it, much better now that I put about 2400 rounds downrange with it, but it's still extremely hard to shoot with accuracy.

My wife purchased a Sig p238 HD (https://www.sigsauer.com/store/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/1800x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/2/3/238-hd-ca.jpg) at the same time I made my purchase for the same reasons.

I noticed the p238 is just so much easier to cluster shots with than mine, and takes way less focus, while mine is mentally exhausting to shoot 200 rounds.

I am looking for a mid level handgun that is built for accuracy/plinking, even a .22 for range sounds fun, but I kinda wanted to stick with 9mm.

What suggestions do you guys have?

beretta 92fs, I also like the beretta px4 storm. cz75 is good too. The metal framed handguns will be easier to shoot for an extended period of time due to weight. A 4+inch barrel will help with ease of shooting as well.

Hey /k/, /lgbt/ here. How could I start a Pink Pistols-esqe group or lgbt gun group? I think its important that queers recognize the importance of self-defense beyond simple martial arts or pepper gel, and Pink Pistols seems to have dropped off in popularity/ lost influence/ condensed into larger cities.

Not to mention, it seems that the "community" has gotten more staunch in its anti-gun department, with the rise of Gays Against Guns and the MSM push after the Orlando shooting to ban "those damn 'salt rifles".

In short:
>how can we make gun ownership appealing to lgbt folks?

Could a modern APFSD from a MBT penetrate the armor of a WW2 battleship? How about a HE round?

>>
>>33741024
Moderm APFSDS can penetrate up to 700-800 mm RHA. The heaviest battleship armor was around 400-450mm thick. It'd do fuck all with the exception of a magazine hit and even that is probably unlikely.

HE wouldn't have a chance on all but the thinnest armor like on the superstructure.

The 5.56x45mm cartridge has a reputation for being "inadequate" these days, but that was not the case in Vietnam. The guns chambered in it were problematic, as were the maintenance practices, but there were never any complaints about its effectiveness during the war.

Back when they were using the M103 out of a full-length barrel, the results suggested that the new cartridge was just as effective as the larger .308, although the gap in muzzle energy and felt recoil was undeniable. The major advantage of the 5.56, besides it's low weight per-round, was its velocity; the spitzer projectile reached well over 3000 feet per second, which resulted in tremendous energy loss when it would hit a human body. Energy loss resulted in massive cavities, in fact many reports and accounts point to the 5.56 being somewhat "overkill". Soldiers reported that the round would "blow people apart". A neck shot would result in partial decapitation, a shot to someone's leg would render it useless, a shot to the head would cause disfigurement or brain tissue to be ejected from the victim's skull.

This cartridge, small and unimpressive to look at, is often underestimated. When used properly however, it is truly devastating.

My other guns are fine but fuck I'd take rust on any gun before this one. This is my baby and my first ;_;

How do I do the penny trick? I rubbed the brass of my bore snake on it and some rust came off but not all.

Is it possible the finish is bad there or something?

Are there any drugs that can improve a soldier's performance in battle? I've heard some crazy stuff about PCP use in Florida and meth use in Africa that has gotten me thinking.
