I know that /k/ thinks mechs would be useless in combat. But still.
The only real problem I think is the powersource.
Other problems like maintenance etc. is a matter of time before certain reliable systems can be developed.
But imagine if you can develope a mech with human-like manipulators (hands). It would be very multi-role.
It can handle various big weapon systems and this performing as a heavy-weapons platform, or use its strenght to carry around wounded, large objects etc.
It can also carry load of supplies, function as as movable cover, long range communications.
And if you make the mech modular, you can attach different weapon or support platforms on it.
A tank is built around the gun. A mech can be built around almost anything.
And in a rapid urbanizing world having legs instead of huge tracks could prove very useful.
I really do think that the only real problem is the powersource.

I know this is an easy answer, but with technological advancements going as quickly as they do, a small, lightweight fusionreactor is not unthinkable, right??
They're quite expensive now. Would it be stupid to buy one, or is the collectors value pretty much cemented at this point?
I basically want an M16A1, can't afford a real one, and Colt's new repro is just as expensive as an SP1. I don't want to build my own clone because it won't hold any collector value.

I can't remember where but some anon posted a website where you could get a Vietnam era m16 for about 1250 bucks and add things like different flash hiders and the property of US government tag and a worn patina look.
that's about half the price of what colt is selling I believe.

Get an M16A1 parts kit. NDS lower, Green Mountain barrel. There is your almost entirely accurate M16A1 for cheaper than genuine SP1. Make sure you ditch that auto sear, constructive intent.

Colt's new production M16A1's are also a very limited production, so realistically you won't run into one.
Nothing really wrong with SP-1's, you can get them for about $1500 nowadays. Go over to /arg/ and ask for help, MSD and Mek both have A1 clones.

For those who aren't aware, there was stabbing spree yesterday at UT Austin. Because Texas is the America of America, if you have a CCW license you're allowed to carry, provided that you don't bring it with you to certain areas(medical, the nuclear engineering building, etc.).
So I was 150 or so yards away from the stabbings, so I think its high time I go ahead go through the process. I'm squeaky clean legal wise, so I shouldn't have a problem.
Anyways, how are the classes/tests/process in general? I know you need to qualify at a shooting range, however the majority of my shooting experience is with rifles (AK's and durr rifles) and compound bows, I've only shot a pistol once. Do I need to practice beforehand or is that one of the topics covered?
Also, what pistol does /k/ recommend for concealed carry? One of my bro's/roommates recommended an S&W M&P. I know dick about hand guns, but I'm looking for something that'll fit in skinny jeans(I know, I know) and has relatively low recoil.Plus I need to get a side arm for when I go hog hunting.
Anyways, thanks for any advice/answers.

I'd recommend 9mm for recoil/cost/good ass ammunition
Full size handguns are the best to learn how to shoot with, but would definitely stick out in skinny jeans

trust me, what you have seen on tv & movies is absolute b.s. it is much harder than you may think to keep all your shots in 5" at 7 yards shooting "quickly" at 1/second

Sup night /k/. I've got a question. I want to learn a martial art, since I can afford it and have enough free time for it. But is it worth learning for self defense? Assuming I don't want to fire on an unarmed assailant, or I should become engaged in a fist fight, would a martial art be very useful to me? I'm looking at Muay Thai or Judo, since the only Krav Maga they teach in the States are BJJ/Cheap Shot hybrids. If I wanted to learn one, which should I take? Anyone who's experienced's help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also open to being told I'm retarded, if you can provide a valid reason why.
