I know it's about two weeks too late, but can we talk about how it's FINALLY FUCKING HAPPENING?
I've been on here for so long, watching the incremental progress year over year, waiting, and hoping, and praying. And now it finally seems like we might get to the mountain top. That we might see the promised land.
HALLELUJAH.

What are good, reliable, rail-mounted iron sights for an AR?
I just won this AR from a local drawing. Pretty nice gun, and my first AR, but it was pretty easy to figure out how to take it apart/field strip it. Most of my serious shooting has been with a Finnish M39 and it's nice to have something lighter that I can support with the magazine from prone. I'd like to continue my tradition of shooting with irons, though, and was wondering what you bunch would recommend I use. Preferably rail-mounted, but reliable. The rail and handguard are very sturdy and made of aluminum, so I'm not worried about flexion. I'd probably rather have peep sights so I can continue shooting at longer distances, but the field of view won't be amazing since it's not a very long carbine. Any other suggestions?
Pic-related. I never felt like AR's had much character to them, but it feels really nice to carry and move with.

Hey /k/. I don't know whether to ask you or /pol/ this (those fucks will probably just ignore me) but let's say an EMP were to hit the US. Those such a weapon exist that it could knock out every piece of electronic in the nation? Lights going off, cars shutting down, planes falling from the sky, etc. And if so how long would it all last? Three days? A week? A month (would this one even be possible)? And also how would the population react? Realistically speaking of course. The civilians, the police/military, the government, etc.
Thanks in advance.
>>33860861
We would all completely lose out shit without our phones and TVs and computers and consoles. The military is coordinated through largely electronic means, as is the government, althouth I would imagine their devices are protected against such things by some means, or that they have backups that aren't reliant on circuitry, and have contingencies in place to deal with life until comms are restored. But civilians- especially soft ones who live in cities- will lose their fucking minds.
>>33860861
EMP doesn't really work like in your videogames
>>33860861
The US accidentally set off an EMP over the Pacific ocean in the 1960's. It knocked out all power in San Diego for a few hours.

I'd live in the abandoned apartment buildings and hunt the wolves, boars, and bears. I'd make a living offering tours of the facilities and use the money to buy more supplies for operating.
For what? No point being out in that irradiated shithole other than to laugh at those who still live in the exclusion zone.

I need your assistance /k/
I'm in the market for a 9mm Striker fired pistol. Will be used for home defense and possibly truck gun.
Only one I have currently is a Shield and most of my other pistols are hammer guns.
I handled all the guns in this strawpoll at the NRA convention in ATL and have formed some opinions but want some more input.
http://www.strawpoll.me/12894962
Glock 19 is the baseline that all striker guns are measured up on. This should be a big hint.
Help me /k/
You're my only hope
- not Glock
- not American
That leaves HK, Walther, CZ, Sig

Youngfag here /k/. Getting ready to graduate from ISU this year and I'm deciding on what should be my first rifle to buy since I'm trying to start a collection like my dad. My price range stops at 700. What should I get and what should I put on it?
$500 AR15 + $200 of mags
>>33858729
Do you want to get good at the range, or muh home deefens? .22 is the cheapest and the best for evolving as a shooter
>>33858729
SKS, $300 worth of ammo, spend the remaining money on vodka and sausages.

300ft/s difference might not seem like much but when we actually look at the energy difference one begins to wonder who the fuck thought that it would be a good idea to make the M4 the standard rifle of the US armed forces.
14 inch barrel 2800ft/s or 850m/s and around 1450J
20 inch barrel 3100ft/s or 950m/s and around 1800J
That's a 350J difference, that's more than the .380 ACP or 9mm Makarov even have joules, i do not understand why they would do this to an intermediate round like the 5.56 especially since it heavily relies on high velocity to shrapnel reliably.
I mean sure for people who absolutely need a compact weapon i totally understand the usage of the M4, sure why not, but the standard infantry weapon? What the hell?
>>33858364
The M4 is lighter and much more compact than the M16, which makes life a whole lot easier when you're either A) Marching through a desert shithole with it or B) Riding humvees and APCs across a desert shithole with it.
These benefits significantly outweighed the loss of energy, at least in the minds of Army brass.
>inb4 some faggot starts acting like he knows better
>>33858412
Largely covers it and newer rounds close the gap rather well. Only time I ever wanted the m16 was when we were too small a ng unit to rate acogs for anyone under E5. Iron sight only yeah the lonfer sight radius is great and with the a4 setup it isn't terrible in a turret. That said once optics and shit get slapped on m4 all the way
