NRA jumped into this growing market with their "carry guard" insurance.
just skimming their stuff it looks like it is mostly just $$

civil lawsuits perhaps ?
sure if you are cleared of criminal misconduct that is a good defense but still tyrone's family will sue in civil court because you denied his civil rights

I use Texas Law Shield. I like them because they have an emergency line for when you are in jail and a nn emergency line just to ask questions and they will look up the laws for you and explain them for you.

Lawyer fees probably
Post and talk about revolvers that were designed or began their production run before 1920.
Which one should I get? Which ones were the most popular? Original or reproduction? All I know is I don't want one designed after 1920 (Something like a model 10 that was manufactured until like now is fine though as it was designed before 1920), and I don't want a single action army.
Yeah fuck the army

S & W hand ejector in .455 webley is the way to go.

>which were the most popular?
For civilians? Probably any number of top breaks made by companies like Iver Johnson or Harrington and Richards in .32 or .38
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/02/world/asia/navy-south-china-sea.html?smid=tw-share
>WASHINGTON — Six weeks ago, the United States Pacific Command requested permission from senior American officials for a United States warship to sail within 12 nautical miles of Scarborough Shoal, a disputed reef in the South China Sea that is claimed by the Philippines and China.
>The Navy had good reason to think the request would be granted. During last year’s campaign, Donald J. Trump labeled President Barack Obama as weak in defending international waters in the South China Sea, where Beijing has started a sharp military buildup to reclaim land, install runways and haul equipment onto reefs and shoals it claims as its own. Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, during his confirmation hearing in January, called for China to be denied access to the artificial islands. And foreign policy experts and Asia watchers braced for a return to routine Navy patrols within China’s self-proclaimed territorial waters, something Mr. Obama allowed sparingly.
>But instead, the Pacific Command request — and two others by the Navy in February — was turned down by top Pentagon officials before it even made it to President Trump’s desk. More than 100 days into the Trump presidency, no American Navy ship has gone within 12 miles of any of the disputed islands in the South China Sea, Defense Department officials said.
>The decision not to challenge China’s territorial claims represents a remarkable deference toward Beijing from an administration that is increasingly turning toward President Xi Jinping for help amid the escalating crisis in the Korean Peninsula.
>was turned down by top Pentagon officials before it even made it to President Trump’s desk.
>Trump surrendered

What is it like to live in a Anti-Gun State ?
BUMP
>>33851391
I live in IL, Chicago suburbs. It sucks, not many good places to shoot indoors, even less places to shoot outdoors. Need a FOID card to buy or possess guns or ammo. I think I paid about $300 for classes and application for a carry permit.
Anti gun groups always trying to make it hard for LEGAL gun owners, while not enforcing laws on the books. Gangbangers shoot each other all the time and the media brainwashes people to believe guns are the problem. I hear "gun violence" at least 5 times a day.
It could be worse. At least it's not California tier yet, although it's heading that way. I've lived here my whole life so I don't know any other way. I plan to move to AZ in the next year so.
Also, Springfield Armory just sold us all out and supported an Anti-gun bill. I expect the liberal politicians to fuck us over, never expected Springfield Armory or Rock River Arms to.
>Buying a Springfield firearm is supporting an anti-gun gun manufacturer
>>33851506
FYI gun laws and monsoon season are the only things AZ has going for it. This state is a boring sandbox full of fat idiots.
I'm an /out/ fag and I'm planning a 230 mile backpacking trip through interior Alaska. I'm going to be in bear country and I'm not going into the shit with a can of mace. I'm looking to bring a weapon specifically for bear defense to keep at hand at all times. I'd also like to bring a lightweight survival rifle to strap to my pack in case of emergency, something to take small game and birds. Does /k/ have any recommendations?
I'm thinking a Smith & Wesson Model 629 at hand and a 10/22 on the pack. Thoughts?
>>33878306
>Smith & Wesson Model 629
yes
>10/22 on the pack
yes
you could just bring a rifle that would handle both though. brush gun maybe?
230 miles is a long way. be light as possible.
For bears even hot loads of .357 mag aren't really enough, .44, .454 are maybe enough if well placed, .500S&W may be feasible, but for a newer shooter you're fucked if you can't handle these cartridges.
I'd take a much larger rifle and lose the handgun altogether, 7mm rem mag, .450 marlin, .375H&H, .30-06 or a rifled shotgun with 2 3/4" slugs, while keeping your backup .22
>>33878306
You likely won't need a weapon. Bears fear humans. Only chance is you sneak up on a mama bear protecting her Cubs.
Just be a fucking man and carry a 12 guage. A 12 guage slug will end anything.
Hey /k/, couldn't find a general thread that seemed like it fit so here goes.
I'm moving to NYC and leaving aside considerations like clearing it with my roommates, I'd like to bring a pistol. I understand that carrying is not legal without a permit, but I know there are ranges in the city. How exactly do I get around with a handgun? What is considered carrying vs. just transporting from point A to point B? I'm from the rural South so this has never really been an issue before...
pic tangentially related
>>33877385
Willingly moving to NYC. You deserve every stupid fucking restriction you get you fucking moron.
>>33877409
Yeah, making 60% more money. I must be some kind of nutjob.
Their laws are so ridiculous and restrictive. This better be short term and the best paying job of your life. I lived in Oakland CA for a few months for work and that was shitty enough, no way I'd do NYC but concealed is concealed, keep your mouth shut and get good at hiding it.
Will a gun explode if I am waving it around as I shoot it? Cause as the bullet is traveling through the barrel if I am moving the gun, the barrel will slam into the bullet as the bullet is travling though the barrel. What if this happens? Has it ever happened and why or why not?
>>33874318
I... what?
that's not how physics work. the bullet moves with the gun. it doesnt lose all relative velocity because you pulled the trigger
Take a bullet and try to push it down the front of your gun. You'll have your answer.
>>33874318
Well, some instances of shitty barrel manufacture have led to things KBing.
But your average gun with a steel barrel will not.
Actually, it's interesting, this exact shit is part of why the AR-10 in its original form wasn't adopted.
There were some problems with the alloy barrels warping and eventually tearing and having rounds go through the operators hand.
Do firearms make good investments?
Does they hold their value with all these political issues constantly occuring?
>>33873816
>Does they hold their value
Do you value your life?
If so, then yes, they keep you alive.
>>33873816
>Do firearms make good investments
In general no
You'll be almost 100% guaranteed to take at least a few hundred dollar lost on any new gun you buy.
Milsurps can be an investment but very low return and a long term one at that.
That being said after the initial couple hundred dollar depreciation a firearm so long as it is well maintained will stay at that value indefinitely.
Also buying used guns is a good way to try a whole bunch of guns without really losing money because you can't typically sell a used gun for what you bought it for.
Tldr
No they aren't good investments except with rare exceptions if you plan on investing for economic gain actually invest.
But if by investment in terms of a self defense tool yes absolutely it is a step above insurance in importance
>>33873818
So if I buy a couple of AR15s and store them for the long term, they won't increase in value?
Is it still possible to get the Ruger Mini 14 in it's original configuration, without that ridiculous handguard thing on it? Like it honestly looks like they took the hood of a car and slapped it on top of the rifle because they couldln't be bothered to come up with something that doesn't look like a pile of dicks. It's probably the only thing stopping me from going out and spending good money on buying a Mini 14.
>>33873484
i'm pretty sure it's just part of the barrel shroud and you can take it off. as to your question no, at least not a new one.
I was looking for a mini 14 walnut stock and happened upon this website - http://www.ruger-mini-14-firearms.com/Stocks.php
They sell a birch handgard thing that matches the factory wood stock. Costs $70.

Would a 10/22 be good for innacity combat?
The Israelis certainly think so, as they use suppressed semi auto .22lr weapons for shooting specific rioters.
>>33869854
An American 180 would be great for riot control: just have a couple of men tracking back and forth at knee &/or abdomen height.
>>33869854
Half mass times velocity squared.
You need to at least provide one of these abundantly.
Let's say a street gang decides to extend itself out of its urban hellhole (any city) out into a rural area where most militias are.
Could a black street gang (Asian and Hispanic street gangs are actually pretty competent) have any hope of being able to survive sustained combat with any armed group on par with a militia?
Has a street gang tried to extend into rural areas in the past? How did they perform?
>>33869820
That depends entirely on what street band, what milita and where
If it's one of the American prepper militias and one of the American street gangs, I'm betting on the diabetes people because they have rifles instead of mostly handguns, and they occasionally practice with their weapons.
>>33869839
>what street band
Pick the most competent black gang. What ever the fuck that is.
Are these fucking things immortal?
>notice hole near shed
>Animal Behavior Violation, terminate.
>pour boiling peanut oil in hole, terrible screams
>two days later see horrible gopher stumbling around all burned
>place thermite in hole model rocket over top
BOOM "launch failure"
>undead gopher emerges, visibly shaken
>takes 3 pellets of .177 @ 1k fps and flees
>flood hole with bleach
>survives
>rig propane torch over hole and watch with nvg, torch the fucker, runs
>STILL ALIVE
>FLOOD HOLE WITH FUCKING CEMENT
>crawls through
At this point it looks awful. I can't win and neighbors would definitely be upset over using a gun (why I faked a model rocket fail).
HOW TO KILL!?!
Go to the hardware stores and get some Gopher Gassers instead of torturing it to death you dumb fucking prick. Even pests deserve a quick death.
Is this the reboot for Caddyshack?
>>33868730
It's not like I want to torture it... and this was a thing I didn't know existed. I'm starting to doubt anything will kill it. I mean, 5 gallons of bleach for fucks sake, that's pretty poisonous.
