Newly minted gunfag here, worth buying a nugget for fun/hunting? Kinda pissed I missed getting one when they were like $100 but oh well, they're still pretty cheap. What country of origin/production year should I look for? What's a good price? And can I put a scope on it?
Either Finnish or pre bolshevik, and as for a scope, no
>>33873792
The only reason to buy one now is because you like its history - in WWII, in 4chan lore, or both. If that's the case, then go for it. If not, you can get better rifles for the same or not much more. Expect prices to average around $250 for an everyday example, and more for extra nice/rare ones like Finns or 91/59s.

>better rifles for the same or not much more
Like what?
Is it a complete basic bitch move to go hunting with a non "hunting" rifle? It doesn't really matter since I doubt I'll have the disposable income to buy one any time soon, but I absolutely love the design of the svd-63 and I'd like to buy one eventually even just for range use.
But I'd also like to go hunting and it would be cool to take. I guess I could get a cheaper 30-06 or something but I feel like if I did own an svd I'd want to use it.
>>33873278
no. i used my vz 59 with federal SP ammo Last november. took a deer. but i goofed and got over excited before shooting so i missed twice. i used a 10 rd box mag that made it pretty much an sks. who cares what you use provided its an adequate round to take the game your hunting. I should also state that the k31 and mosin nagant are not hunting rifles by nature... lots of people hunt with nuggets.
>>33873278
There's nothing wrong with it really other then the PSO is calibrated for shooting standing slavs and it may take some kentucky windage to hit where you want. I'm pretty sure you can pick up a traditional reticle posp that mounts on the SVD rail as well.
Other then that, It's a bit on the heavy side but there's people out there who hunt with HK91s so you do you.
I'd also be worried about damaging such a rare gun while hunting. I'd probably do it if it was a some shit like a tigr or a NDM-86 though.
>>33873278
Dude, because of the import ban those things are rare as hell and when you do find them they go for tens of thousands of dollars. Good luck getting one. Just get an RPK or a PTR-91 or something.

If I buy a set of electronic earplugs like the expensive ESP ones which have an NRR (noise reduction rating) of 25. Does that mean the actual decibel reduction is (25-7)/2 = 9DB? If so, then how on earth is it safe to fire a shotgun which produces let's say 160DB if these earplugs only offer 9DB reduction. Even by doubling up, with this calculation it would reduce approx. 16DB which would still be 144DB and would hurt like shit. I'm probably misinterpreting something but can someone elaborate?
>>33872349
That's not how NRR works.
>>33872380
Alright, but then how does it work?
>>33872349
>(25-7)/2 = 9DB?
Fucking what? Also, regular foam ones do better than that. Much better.

Getting a barrel go with my 13" Geissele MK8 rail and can't decide on a gas system: 14" w/ carbine gas or 14.5" w/ midlength?
I'm going to use a Surefire SOCOM556-RC2 suppressor after my stamp gets approved but I'm worried about unsuppressed reliability with a midlength since I shoot outdoors during northern WI winters.
Other worry is over-gassing and blowback with a suppressed carbine in a 14" barrel. I do like that carbine gas should eat through any ammo, including steel wolf and .223, in cold weather no problem

In Minnesota, as a Minnesota resident over the age of 21, can I legally hand cash to another Minnesota resident, and in return receive an "assault" rifle or handgun, without filing any paperwork or taking any other steps?
I know that I can do so for a non-"assault" style long gun. I am specifically wondering about "assault" rifles such as AR15 or AK, and handguns.
I ask because on a gun laws webpage, it says that "A handgun or semiautomatic military-style assault weapon" requires that the purchaser has a handgun transferee permit, carry permit, or files a transfer report. However, it is unclear if this applies to all transactions or only transactions involving an FFL.
Thank you.
>>33871651
There is nothing against the private sale of any firearm in Minnesota if the buyer is of legal age.
>"A handgun or semiautomatic military-style assault weapon" requires that the purchaser has a handgun transferee permit, carry permit, or files a transfer report.
That's for anyone that is going through an FFL.
Though as a seller it's a good idea to see their carry permit or permit to purchase and that it is current to sell to them.
It's not 100%, but it's one extra thing to make sure you're not selling to an underage banned or a felon.
>>33871651
I sold a handgun to a buddy of mine who got it confiscated due to a ND in an apartment. (no one got hurt because it was a .410 judge.) But the cops called me up to confirm I sold it to him and there was no problem. They never asked to see a bill of sale or anything.
He did have his permit to purchase though. So take that into consideration. Be careful, just because you've been friends with someone for years doesn't mean they aren't a fucking moron.
Thanks guys
>>33871721
>Though as a seller it's a good idea to see their carry permit or permit to purchase and that it is current to sell to them.
It's legal to purchase a handgun without these permits as long as it will only be used on private property or wilderness, and never carried in public outside of a locked case, correct?
