Why the fuck doesn't the army switch to ballistic plastic head protection?
The ACH is fucking retarded.
SF don't even wear them, they operate in skateboard helmets.
Why do these guys look so sad?
>>33880227
Because Moby-Dick raped them
>>33880227
Operating is a dirty job and the rewards are minimal.
I know I'm abit late to the party /k/ but what are your thoughts on this fucking thing is it just a meme or what, I feel like it would urban combat especially within a house extremely unfair, am I wrong here or what?
>>33880172
Seems kind of unnecessary when autoloaders with a high ROF already exist.
>>33880172
We already had a thread about this
>>33880172
It served no real purpose:
>needlessly large
>heavier than a standard shot gun
>didn't pass the stress tests
>tried to ride a wave of memes into national armories
In the end, it didn't offer a solution (to a problem that didn't even need to be fixed in the first place)
Does firing a semi automatic rifle involve just putting the mag in the gun, and turning off safety, then pulling the trigger? Where with a pistol you have to rack the slide. Does a rifle have any equivilent action? Is that what a "charging handle" is? I have heard the term "charging handle" but I don't know what it means. What is a charging handle?
No this isn't a troll post and yes I am really new to guns
and yes I tried googling it and couldn't find the answer
You have to rack the slide if there is not a round in the chamber. If you shoot 29 bullets of a 30 round magazine you will still have one and can reload without doing that because the final bullet you didn't expend will be in the chamber. Yes the charging handle is what you grab to rack the slide. Some guns hold open on the last round so all you have to do is push the charging handle forward or press a button and it will go forward and pick up the top round on the magazine.
Yes the rifle has a little internal slide that you need to operate in order to put a bullet into the chamber of a gun in order for it to fire...like all guns have this. Fucking retard
>>33880063
Yes, the charging handle chambers a round and cocks the hammer. After putting a magazine in you either have to charge it, or, if the bolt is locked to the rear, release the bolt. On an AK like in your picture, the charging handle is on the right side. On an AR, it's directly below the rear sight.
How many /k/ommandos rock offset sights/optics.
lol have a go m8

I don't really see the point if you have a quick throw lever. Extra weight and more shit to snag imo
tacticool mall ninja garbage.
Abu Tahseen, 63 year old Iraqi Shia sniper, claims to have killed 321 ISIS fighters in the last 2 years.

What site do y'all like for buying ammo? I used to use MidwayUSA but I had some anon shit on me for it and I figure it can't hurt to ask.
Hi /K/ I'm looking for a new woods gun because my current one is under repair and I'm waiting for the parts to come in. I was looking at a marlin 1895 stainless in 4570 in case of a griz. What do you carry? Can't buy a handgun yet so that's off the table

>>33879805
I got it for $200 last year if i wanted to I'd replace the stock and a few parts and its restored. I wanted a gun that would work but one I didn't mind getting fucked up.
>>33879805
>HHAHA you got trigged by the poo gun being bubbed
>Why the fuck would you do that to a 1903?!?! That gun has heritage! It was used by red blooded Americans!
kys
Why do upgraded SKSes in particular trigger autists so hard? I've noticed that at the first mention of an SKS with an optic or with the chu wood stock being replaced, they go into a rage, why is that?
>>33879736
Because rifle is fine.
>>33879781
Sergei Simonov was a Russian patriot who would have wanted his rifle to be improved and upgraded to remain useful for longer for the glory of the Motherland.
Because the SKS is not a modern platform and does not really take well to attempts at hacking it into such. By the time you've upgraded your SKS enough that it works like a poor man's AK, the money you spent on the rifles and the upgrades would have bought a low to mid range modern weapon like an actual AK or AR that will do the job better.
At least in the US, it may be different in places like Canada where they can still be had for 1-200 dollars.
SKSs also, being C&R weapons, are beginning to accrue value both monetary and sentimental that is based around their status as old platforms - just like all other service weapons older than around 40 or 50 years. Most of the modifications make it impossible to return the weapon to its original configuration and, as such, destroy this value.
The value is often blown out of proportion, but there you go.
pic related. Chiappa M1-9 I've always wanted one of these as a cheap plinker, but all the reviews i've seen are mixed to negative..
>>33879579
I'm also interested in finding out
>>33879579
>>33879600
You can watch any youtube review to find out. They're horrifically unreliable.
I've only heard negative things basically how the things jam like every 2-3 rounds
It's as if u plebs don't enjoy maximum recoil mitigation
there's an objectively correct way to hold a pencil and there's also an objectively correct way to hold a gun which is an exaggerated c clamp.
If you only have handguns then use central axis relock or kys

There are gun/operator style supermodels?
I was thinking about stealth fighters and stealth bombers, and there's a pretty big limitation about all of them - the weapons they use aren't stealthy. You may not be able to see or detect an incoming stealth bomber but you will be able to see and detect the bombs and missiles they launch, from the trails and explosions they leave behind.
My thinking here is, why not develop stealth bombs? Bombs that don't trigger a visual explosion or emit any explosion sounds, but still do their damage? With a stealth bomb that doesn't emit any sound or light or heat you could start bombing a target without the target ever being aware that they're under attack - a true 'stealth' bombing. Why hasn't there been any serious thought on this topic?

Truthfully because night missions have been and always will be considered dishonorable bush league bullshit tricks pulled by lesser men.
How autistic should I get describing weapons and ship designs if I want to write a military science fiction story? Where do you draw the line between worldbuilding and writing a tech manual?
When it stops informing the world the characters inhabit.
I forget if it was from Old Man's War or The Forever War, but at one point the weapons instructor tells the trainees that armies are always fielded with the bare minimum they need to win. That was just after they introduced and explained the capacity of the space gun the character uses. It helped to emphasize that this is a really fucked up universe and that they need every advantage they can get.
If it's just tech porn for the sake of tech porn, it starts to feel like a shitty /m/ OVA.
>>33879289
Frankly, as much as necessary but not to the point it is a drag. Avoid having 40k level of stupid (I love the universe, but Jesus, the writers can be so thick skulled at times)
Make it like a wiki article essentially, but with some interesting detail here and there. Maybe have it during a conversation between two people.
On a side note, is that an X-COM laser rifle? Love that game, especially with the Long War mod.
I think you have to find a balance between general descriptions like "the graceful slender body of the ship" and more in depth descriptions. Unless the story is about the ship design and the gun design you don't really need to go in depth too much.
Anyone here ever bought a suppressor and permanently attached it to SBR upper to make it over 16 inches?
I'm thinking of doing that to 5.56, do you have any recommendations for the kind of Suppressor that will get me a lot of length and reduction of noise?
>>33879262
Do you mean in attempt to make it NFA complaint?
>>33879302
Yes, Basically I want a firearm that is 16.5 inches barrel overall length and short but also suppressed. I'm looking for quiet suppressor because I intend to pin it, therefore said suppressor ought to be good.
