It wasn't meant for dogfighting, it was meant for quick CAS. It could be stationed nearly anywhere and was super versatile.

Even air superiority fighters do not dog fight at top speed.

In the Falklands the Harriers forced the superior Mirages to play on their level by flying low and slow. To engage the Mirages would have to come down and this left them vulnerable to Harriers. Argentinian aircraft also had less time on station because the fuel they would have to burn flying from the mainland and back. This limited the types of fuel burning maneuvers they could perform. But yeah the Harrier is used so widely and successfully because it is a versatile aircraft.

Harrier wasn't used "widely" as it's a niche aircraft so only RAF and US Marines bothered with it.

However it had one key advantage in the Cold War. The Brits kept lorries ready with maintenance equipment at Harrier bases so if they could immediately disperse away from their soon-to-be-destroyed airfield.

I went TDY as an A1C to RAF Gutersloh in 1982 with a couple of Broncos from Sembach and got to see how they operated. Pretty cool.

I own a garand. Some advantages are everything the CMP provides, from rifle to you door to greek buyback surplus ammuntion. Not entirely versed on the M14, but I know it has a thriving community which you can gleam much from, much like arfcom.

I'd go for the M1, it's a wonderful rifle and if you go through the simple process of getting in with the CMP you can get a special grade for around 1k which is basically a brand new M1 Garand. Hell there's even a company that makes clip pouches for MOLLE if you want to tactically ping.

I wouldn't recommend learning to shoot on a .308 platform. That, however, is another discussion. If I had to pick between the two, the M1.

Shameful self-bump. I was thinking about a 1911 for a CCW because I've shot them and I really like their ergonomics. I've also shot an M&P shield, and various Glocks- but I keep coming back to the 1911

I hate the belief of buying a different trigger in an attempt to correct poor shooting but the SD9VE's trigger isn't that good and apex makes a $20 kit that cleans it up quite well. Get that.

Second, buy a bunch of B8 bullseye targets. They are a great target to shoot at 25 yards with and can be used to do a multitude of drills with. Dryfire is huge. Work on it.

Upgrading your sights should be one of your considerations too. Dawsons are great for close range speed shooting and accurate long distance shots.

Apex springs and trigger are great, Like I said, I now am hitting the target with every shot!

About changing the sights, What is the difficulty level of adjusting them once they are on? I would be more than happy to do that after I can get a general grouping with my shots;

paid 450 and I'm pretty sure it is a reblue. I know some gunsmiths near me so if something goes wrong I'll probably just take it to one of them.
