It's got a charging handle...? It's got a lot of useless, heavy shit on it from the looks of it. It has two nice features, the covering of the ejection port and a charging handle. Other than that, it's ass.

If youre talking about hunting you only get one bullet and if you arent complete shit then that bullet will kill instantly about 30% of the time with a direct heart shot but the other 70% are lung shots and theyll run pretty fucking far before they go down and youll have to track them for a couple hours. If youre talking about people it depends on what ammunition you use but your range is limited to about 250 yards considering even with a rifled barrel slugs on average start to drop around 200 depending on the grain and if theyre wearing armor then you can forget buckshot completely unless youre in a dick to butt situation. I mean for home defense? Yeah thats what you want, for going out and fighting other armed combatants, id go with a rifle.

How do you like your Steyr?
I was thinking I should finally get around to buying baby's first polymer striker-fired 9mm, but I didn't like any of the Glocks I've handled and fired before.
I was thinking an M9 or L9 since I don't plan on using it for carry and want to fully appreciate the spacegun aesthetic.

How old are you? Do you like them loud? How much do you want to invest starting out? How often do you think you might want to shoot? Do you have access to a lot of land or an outdoor range? Do you have access to an indoor range? Do you want a gun for plinking or home defense? What country/state do you live in?

Any of the major brands (Glock, Smith and Wesson, Springfield, Beretta) will be reliable.

I'd start with a full size handgun as your first.

If it were my brother buying his first, I'd have him find a Beretta 92FS. It's heavy enough to have almost no recoil, cheapish to buy if you find one used, and reliable as hell. It's not the best or most modern full-size out there, but it's got good aftermarket and holster choice.
