Are defensive/ tactical firearm courses like these worth it or are they just a meme. They seem useful but 400 dollars for a carbine immersion class with no ammo included is steep for broke as college students like myself.

>400 dollars
Jesus christ just practice yourself. If you're in the 'i should do a shooting course' part of developing your skills dont. Just go to the range and actually practice with what you've got and become more proficient with them.

Most classes are fucking bullshit and actually teach you bad habits.

The TL;DR of it is just go and shoot more often. Practice more and shit.
>>
>>34088979
If you don't carry a rifle for your job a carbine class is basically larping. If you got the cash, time and interest there's nothing wrong with doing it for a luagh but a broke ass college student would be better served by buying $400 worth of ammo for his CCW and getting as much trigger time as possible.

hello, do any of you recomend the Ruger Mini14?
im thinking of buying it becus of gun laws in Norway and was wondering if i can shoot moose with it. any experience?
53 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
For the price I don't recommend, as for moose I'd want 30-06. Apart from those Remington sports thingies I can't really think of a semi 30-06. So you're best bet is to go with a bolty.

do you have any other hige capacity semi rifles to a better price you would recomend witch could go under the a hunting rifle?

This thing passed the AKOU test with flying colors. Is this thing that good? Also, Im worried about parts interchangeability if I get one.
Anyone have any experience with this one?

It's the best AK you can get, better than Arsenal.

If I'm an army contractor, Vepr would be my service rifle.

Nope.

OP here. Forgot to add that someone wants to sell me one for $850 with 5 magazines and a OPSFOR AK stock . Should I take it? It will be my first rifle besides my 10/22

Any polish people here.
What is the process to get a working replica of a blackpowder cap and ball in poland do you have to live in poland or can a student buy one for historical purposes

Uberti has some great options. If Poland is anything like where I live you would have to find a gun shop in Poland to order it for you.

Are percussion caps restricted because i would like to have some so i can use it as a cap gun.

Dear /k/,

I'm planning today to go to my local gun shop to purchase a handgun. Unfortunately, I live in a terrible place to own/shoot, so haven't had any real chance to get out and try out some handguns. I have shot them in the past, but many years ago. I have the opportunity to bring my guns to shoot at a friends cabin about an hour away, which is where I plan to get acquainted with this new one. Unfortunately, I can't purchase it, test it out, and return it (I believe).

After doing some research, I've realized I have the following parameters:
~$450-550
9mm (good balance of "stopping power", recoil, availability)
primary use will be concealed carry for protection and familiarizing myself with handguns

Currently, it seems like the Glock 17 is a good bet.

Given my situation, there's a good possibility I'll have to purchase a gun prior to shooting it, or testing any handguns, for that matter.

Therefore, I am wondering if you all might have any advice or suggestions? Alternatives to the Glock 17? Things you would really pay attention to if you had to purchase a gun prior to shooting (stupid, I know, but I've been waiting forever to purchase a gun and the time simply isn't going to get better.)

Thanks in advance, /k/.

Glock is a solid choice, sight unseen for someone who has no clue what they are after.

Also consider HK VP9 and maybe S&W M&P.

Whatever feels good in your hand since you don't have much to go on.
>>
>>34088587
I would go with a 19, but still a solid choice
>>
>>34088587

If you want to conceal it, a Glock 19 would be a better bet than a 17.

Is there a place where I can buy any semblance to a weapon to practice field strip/disassembly kit a la world of guns style? I guess the kit would be plastic and not fully functional. It doesn't make sense that any place would sell those but it sounds like a good hobby to me that I'd want to do.

What's the best way to practice and learn about guns w/o having unlimited access to one.

There's no point to doing it unless you intend to use the weapon.

Good idea. I found some stuff that cost $188 and I'll check with the store how useful are they for practice, but that's a lot of money for some iron.

Just going through the process of gun ownership in the EU is a nightmare and the cost associated with it is great

Comparatively to with guns how fun is bow hunting? How expensive is it? How much skill does it require? Also are there any guberment restrictions on bows in any states?

New fag here with limited budget so wondering if bow hunting might be more my thing.
22 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>34088219
It's generally about the same, you can get into it for about the same price as using a gun, It will take a little more time to get decent with a bow than it would with a gun, and as a bonus most states have a significantly longer archery season than rifle season for deer.
>>
>>34088219
Used to compete in recurve archery so it's not completely the same but there's definitely a steeper learning curve than with guns, but getting a kill with a bow sounds so much more satisfying because of that.

I have nothing but respect for bow hunters.
>>
>>34088219
Go to your local archery store and ask a little around there. One thing you'll have to accept is that if you're buying a bow for hunting this year, you won't be hunting with it before next year due to the practice it requires.

You chose two near polar opposites.
I suggest you visit your local gunnasium and feel the two boys up. Choose the one that feels good in your hands and has a trigger that you appreciate.
If neither of them suits your fancy, begin feeling examples from the gunkeeper's stable until you find your prince.
Bonus points if there's a rent range so you can feel your gun in action before you commit
Just do your homework and make sure it's something with at least a decent reputation. No brycos, tauruses, bersas etc
When it comes to modern mainstream automatic pistols, those are the two most important factors.
You will always shoot a gun you find comfortable better then a gun you find uncomfortable and you will be more inclined to practice
The rest is more or less splitting hairs.

Lugers are picky about ammo, so no

Also, if you have to shoot someone in self-defense, your gun might end up in an evidence locker for a bit; better it be something other than a Luger
