Talk to me about the .357 Sig, /k/. Seems like a decent little cartridge as long as you can find a supply of it and strong-arm the apparent recoil. From What I've read about it so far those are the only major downsides other than it not being more largely produced and developed e.g. not having a bunch of exotic loads and experimental stuff like the three big pistol calibers. Most people just say "Just use Gold Dot, HST, etc. for carry" Anyway so that seems like a moot point.

Honestly, it sounds like a decent option for a daily carry option considering the fact that it defeats auto-glass pretty well as well as other barriers. The terminal effects of the round look pretty neat as well, the Federal HST load in particular. Most of the testing I've seen has shown reliable expansion in most loadings even if they become plugged by denim.

It's obviously not quite a .357 Mag but it's pretty potent nonetheless and comes in a semi-auto package with twice the payload on board. Thoughts?

That car doesn't stop just because the driver's CNS did. Also, make sure your choice of bullet doesn't over expand at the higher velocity and suffer poor penetration.
>>
It's a great pistol round. You obviously already listed the biggest flaws. Price, difficulty in locating, limited load variety, snappy recoil. Unless you have a lot of money to throw around you'll never be able to practice with 357 sig as much as you could with 9mm.

I think if they could find a way to lower the price it would be come a much, much more popular round. As of right now the only advantage 9mm has over it is price and recoil, and recoil isn't going to be that much of an issue for the average adult man.
>>
>>34117253
Actually, 9mm also has round variety. But fixing the 357 pricing issues would solve that.

Stupid, just really stupid. By all accounts they were even worse than the rifle, but its a moot point when the whole notion of a mag-fed automatic rifle with the same barrel profile as the service rifle is retarded any way you slice it.

I've been carrying a strider 8541 I received as an award in my plate carrier for years, albeit slightly hodge podge in its attachment and retention. The knife is also admittedly a bit too long as well as unnecessarily ornate and heavy for a permanent fixed blade carry knife. I'm looking to downsize, drop some ounces and find a more secure, and if possible, locking-but-easily-accessible retention device kydex and/or cordura sheath which must be able to attach either to the inside of my jpc's cummerbund, or Velcro attach similar to the jpc MBITR radio pouch. Ideally the knife will sit as close as possible to my plate on my right side, so as to enable a strong hand draw without the handle inhibiting the shouldering of a rifle. Furthermore, I want a knife that I can also purchase alongside with it, an identically weighted training knife with zero edge on it to train with.

Maybe I'm partial to strider because I received my blade for free, but I've been eyeing the DB-L for its size and shape. Ideally I'de prefer it to have a swedge/false edge along the top and a wrapped handle instead of a bolt on for weight savings.

I came to /k/ because besides the teenagers, air soft milsim faggots, people who post with permanent IDs (except oppenheim, everyone else needs to stop trying to build internet cred) I've been thoroughly entertained and unexpectedly educated on many weapon and military topics- however obscure, arbitrary and absurd they sometimes are. Within it all is sometimes a shockingly informed subject matter expert. Blog post aside:

Where can I find a cheap Strider DB-L? Or knife extremely similar to it?

Alternatively, does anyone here make custom knives/sheaths, and are they looking for work? If mine turns out the way I want it, could have another 4-5 guys wanting the same thing.

Why does someone charge 300+ dollars for a piece of small, shaped steel? I understand the market drives the price, but still..

Did the French Army made a good choice by choosing the HK416 to replace the FAMAS ?

It was in competition with the ARX 160, the SCAR-L, the SIG 516 and the VHS-D1.

I'm looking for a 1000 yard bolt action rifle chambered in .308 for less than $1000. I'm currently looking at Tikkas and Savages, what are some other rifles to look for?

Savage axis 2, buy a high quality scope (burris, vortex ect.)
>>
>>34116775
I've seen youtube videos of a guy ringing steel at 1000 yards with a Savage Axis. I think that there are absolutely rifles capable of that range for less than $1000. Just looking for options because it will end up being an expensive build when it's all said and done.

Okay, I've been lurking for years, and by the end of this summer I am going to have a sweet wad of cash to spend (~$2000). The news has me pretty scared, so I am ready to buy a handgun, and some type of pdw. My family is hasguns but I just turned 21 so reasonably, I am right now noguns.

For the handgun I am thinking a 1911. Just not sure which model and I am looking for recommendations. I don't know where to start for this pdw-esque weapon I have in mind, I am thinking a mini-14 and I would go for the m1a but it put's me out of budget. Maybe I could go for an SBR? or one of those pistol-rifle fuckin weird things? Thoughts on this?

2000? If this is your first handgat don't get a shit antiquated design. I would suggest a 9mm sig or CZ 75. hogher capacity, better designs (i.e. not 100 years old) you can even get them both in
.45 if you want. After that you can buy all the 1911s you want.
>>
>>34116759
>cz75
>not a shit antiquated design that breaks slide stops

>>34116715
You need to figure out how much you want to actually spend on the 1911 itself, there's a make and model of 1911 to fit literally every budget.

I'm incredibly late to the game, but I'm /finally/ in a CMP affiliate and ready to buy an M1 Garand. There are two rifles that are in my price range, and one that is a bit of a stretch.

M1D Rack Grade - $935
M1D Field Grade - $1235 (this is a stretch on my budget)
M1 CMP Special Field Grade - $830 (description says may have receiver pitting above the wood line)

The M1Ds do not come with any of the accessories other than a sling, so it's basically a regular M1 that can (once I save enough money) become an actual M1D.

I'm looking for it to be a shooter more than anything else. The pitting on the receiver is the only thing pushing me away from the Special Field. Would the pitting have any safety issues?

Help me out, /k/ommandos. Anyone have any of these CMP rifles?

Pic - Can we go back to these prices?

Hans-Ulrich Rudel (2 July 1916– 18 December 1982) was a German ground-attack pilot during World War II. Post-war, he was a prominent neo-Nazi activist in Latin America and West Germany.
During the war, Rudel was credited with the destruction of 519 tanks, as well as a number of ships. He claimed 9 aerial victories and the destruction of more than 800 vehicles of all types. He flew 2,530 ground-attack missions exclusively on the Eastern Front, usually flying the Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" dive bomber, and 430 missions flying fighter aircraft. Rudel was the most decorated German serviceman of World War II receiving the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds in January 1945; the decoration was created specifically for him.

He was consulted, but what actual input he really had is quite questionable, as is the decision to consult him at all, considering that there's about as much proof that he ever killed even a single tank as there is to back up Jud Süss as an historical documentary.
Fact is he was outright short of booted from his squadron at the start of the war, and that every single kill he claimed came just when the Nazis were being decisively pushed back, so not a single one of his claims could ever be verified. You'd have thought that if a single Stuka with 37mm cannon pods (not to mention the kills claimed by the rest of his squadron) had killed 500 Red Army tanks, the Soviets would at least have internally acknowledged this, and made some effort to come up with a similar platform (they experimented with 3.7cm cannons on the Il-2 at an earlier stage, but quickly came to the conclusion it was utter rubbish). Neither of these things ever happened.

I recently moved to New Jersey to commute to NYC for work. Having a knife on hand would be extremely helpful for my job, though I understand these laws are insanely strict.

I have read a great deal about the laws, but I'm still not sure exactly what is and isn't considered legal. Can anyone recommend a specific knife that is legal to carry in both states? Also, if there are any suggested stores, I'd love to hear about those too
