So I finally saw this movie last week, and figured since it's all about Japanese culture and history, might as well make a thread about it here.
Has anyone else seen it, or at least read the books? I like its take on an alternate history where the major events that happen to Tokyo in the 20th century are connected to occultism. It's a refreshingly different take from what most writers in Japan seem to do. Plus it's not to see tokusatsu work being done that isn't just pyrotechnics/suits, what with the stop-motion animation and puppetry the film has.
My only complaint is the pacing, since from what I hear this 2 hour movie is the plot of the first 4 books, so it's massively compressed. I doubt the books will ever get translated, but even if I could read them in Japanese I feel like a lot would be lost on me without studying Japan's mythology and occult.

I watched the OVA years ago.
Been meaning to get into that since its always referenced to in megaten.
The star cap and gloves are pretty baddass though.

Kato's look is so iconic that there are dozens of characters specifically based on him.
Which is funny because it's just an Imperial Army officer's cloak and hat.
I've read the first book (or the first two depending on how you're counting them). It's really freaking great.
