Its not about VNs.

Its about type of story structure with long common route, which is mostly comedy / SoL. That then at one point splits into heroine routes.

This is way too common in modern VNs. And I do agree it is not that good. Especially if they try to adapt it to anime.

I don't think the story structure itself is bad, but it doesn't fit every kind of story, and developers seem to use it a lot even when it doesn't fit. It's fine for pure romance, or for very lewd and impure romance, but when there's a story aside from romance involved, a different structure would be preferable.

Because they find the banter between the characters in the common route to be funny and endearing thus getting the reader attached to those characters so that they care for them for when shit inevitable goes down in the character routes. It's not that hard to understand.

There's quite a few themes in English-translated ones because I assume that's your limit, but there's a myriad of works to explore if you learn Japanese.

Dang near impossible for me to access it. If I use a proxy, it works for a couple of minutes and then the access just stops working again.

Yes, western IPs are usually blocked. Google cache in text mode works quite well if you just want to quickly look up a game.

Congrats, you've seen the light. VNs in general are a degenerate genre for degenerates (basically porn + romance wrapped up in a way only manchildren can enjoy), the few that have any literary value haven't been translated (or have half-assed fan translations by people who can't read or write).

Going to pop into this thread. I love VNs but Grisaia was boring as fuck. Let me explain - Grisaia has a TWENTY HOUR LONG common route of NOTHING but jokes and comedy. That's just awful. Hatsumira suffers in the same ray. Grisaia embodies for me the worst aspect of VNs - awful pacing, with unnecessary school setting and bad mixed-scenarists/artists to boot.
