I think Vaegirs have comparably good archers as the Rhodoks, the big drawback being that they don't have a shield while Rhodoks do.

Usually I use Vaegirs and Nords to garrison my castles and it's pretty damn safe.

Having the 'best' of one type of unit means jack. Nords consistently get btfo by the Russkies, and Swadia is almost always cucked in all holes. Rhodoks are pretty much incapable of expanding because it only has 3 cities. If anything, Sarranids, Kergits, and Vaegirs do best when left to the AI.

nord huscarls are a meme 2bh, why spend ages training them if you can stomp the ai just as easily with almost any other infantry at half the cost? Honestly the best things the nords can offer is stuffing your castles with cheep but decent longbowmen. Same thing with mamluke vs knights, and mamlukes use blunt weapons to boot

Rhodoks are the best faction to start with. Their ranged units allow you to play a defensive role while you are leveling up and gathering a decent army. Swadians and Sarranids are great when it comes to cavalry and they proove to be a great asset. Nords are the best when it comes to infantry and take place as the core of the army.
With this combination you are undefetable. Put your archers at the top of a hill covering your charge and it's done. Half of their army will be dead before they reach you and it will be easy to massacre the remaning soldiers
