Apartment complexes are a good thing.

If you want your cities to be dead wastelands, like lots of American cities, I suspect, then you build lots of suburbs.
If you want action-packed cities with lots of activity, build apartment blocks in the city.

It also has the potential to be an aesthetic positive. How grand-looking can an affordable array of houses look? Not that grand, methinks. But a single big, grand, apartment building can house as many people as a boring ugly terrace row of houses, albeit in a larger, more impressive building.

Cities should be dominated by apartment complexes built in urban environments.

In latin america we mostly have apartment buildings over 12 stories high, and they're pretty comfy. They're always designed with a social recreation type area, or even a cool rooftop for people to hang out in. It's cool because it's much easier to get to your neighbors, and it's like a more unified neighborhood if you live in a close community.

Right now I live in this complex with lots of Chinese immigrants and you always see them bbqing near the pool and hanging out. Gives a nice sense of comfiness.

If you want clubs, cafes, parks, restaurants, shops, gyms, libraries, etc. on your doorstep, you'd prefer a city.
If you want a car and a television, you'd prefer a suburb.

I agree with you, to be honest. Life should be about working from 9-5, then driving back to your suburb to live an isolated life. Cities are terrible: all of those other people around, all of that community, yuck, it just distracts from the television.

No, EUropean people are individualist, meaning they want life to be about them and a television, and maybe a few family members to watch the television with.
Living in a busy city where there are events happening and stuff is really, really bad for Europeans.
I recently moved out of a city. In my last week before moving out, there was a big parade going past my doorstep. Loads of people came out to see it. It was a military parade for remembrance day. I remember just thinking: "Holy fucking shit, I can hardly hear the TV." Put me in a right mood.
