Why are these threads so hard to read? I practise Japanese with real people, but do they just dumb down everything for me? They're much easier to understand, and I don't have to look up every word they say.
>I practise Japanese with real people
Normal everyday conversations? or more "difficult" and subjective conversations?
Also how many kanji do you know?, as in, have memorized them and know their most common compounds
>do they just dumb down everything for me?
I've only had one real conversation with japanese people once, and now that I think back on it when compared to these threads it does feel like they were dumping it down a little, maybe they do it to make it easier for you and make the conversation go more smoothly

This is really frustrating me. I was talking to this Japanese girl, and we were talking about Japanese onomatopoeia. She kept using them so I though it was cute and said "That's enough cuteness for today." in broken Japanese. She didn't understand so I told her in English, and she translated it to this: 「今日は可愛すぎだろ」. But she also said "If you say this, you'll be a playboy." I kept asking her questions but she just kept saying "don't say this to people you don't know". It's so frustrating because I literally cannot understand the flirtatious aspect of this sentence.

You don't need to be that good, most of the kawaii girls on HelloTalk are already good at English. The only problem is most of them won't be confident to talk to you. Use Japanese as much as you can even if it's really broken. After that, they'll have confidence talking to you and start just using English with you.
I talk to whoever, Ill say what I know in Japanese and Ill say what I dont know in English, its really a give - give app.
Then eventually youll find someone whos actually interesting and not just someone that likes English and it will be easy to flirt
>日本のことに興味がある implying that I'm also interested in other countries, too.
>日本のことは興味がある implying that I'm not interested in other countries. You can say
I'm not interested in foreign countries, but I'm interested in Japan.
I see their efforts to present themselves in a certain way by talking with the dialect.
It could be that "I'm so integrated" or "I learn Japanese from people not books."
It's okay as long as he's talking flawless Japanese, but most of the time, that's not the case.

A question to Americans:
Yesterday I've been told that African American is not a proper term any more, but today I just read "bla bla Asian American men survey", is 'Asian Americans' still OK to say? (I mean not to describe a person himself, but a group)

I always see Japanese media show some people being sad an working minumum wage their whole lives.
It may be different from here and US, but why don't Japanese people who feel like there's no way out of a shitty employment scenario just join the military? It's what everyone else does.
Is Jap military shit work/shit pay, hard to get into?
It's just so sad. I mean I've always wanted to visit Turkey and Egypt but the oil surcharge has been too expensive.
Now that the oil is cheap but neither Turkey nor Egypt is safe to travel.
>hard to get into
This, unless you are new graduates.
And you have to be physically fit as well.
Japan has the low employment rate, but it's achieved by keeping everyone's wage low.
it's good for the whole society, but at the individual level, it's not a happy situation.
Japan is one of the most peaceful country so we don't need military power. Also our politicians are clever enough to know what will happen when poor immigrants come in to military.
Say nice things about Japan, but don't prattle on too much.
Tell them they have pretty villages and nice architecture.
