The Reporters without Borders' "Freedom of the Press Index 2015" has been released
America is #49 below countries like Niger and Botswana? I thought America had such a lot of muh freedom?
Pluralism, i.e. amount of different opinions voiced in the media actually played a pretty big factor in the rating. But the cover-up of the attacks happened at NYE, so in 2016. Also it was the government that withheld information, not the press. Same goes for Sweden.
>Sweden is ranked higher than us
They can have all the press freedom they want, they're still spineless cucks
Where they tried to downplay cologne?
Why? Because you can't read what you want?
Get an abonement of T.A.Z. and Junge Freiheit if you want more plurality. The different opinions are there, just nobody wants to listen to them.
Oh well, you're right about that. Personally I only had news in mind. They suck balls since literally every news station shows the same things and tries to hide some facts.
Never heard of Junge Freiheit desu, is it good?
No. It's bullshit.
Constitutional republics firstly have to ensure self preservation (in case a new admistrative entity isn't supposed to take its place), depending on the particular situation the republic might find itself in, it must take certain measures, which might include regulating the press in a way that society doesn't like.
For example in Germany you're not allowed to husstle against a particular group of people, since it might harm the societal order.
In this case the society does except it, for other countries it's not that forgiving.
The thing is, what the map shows is not the only thing that makes a country's press free, for example a lot of tv channels and newspapers here are owned by berlusconi and as you may guess are very pro berlusconi
This doesn't prevent me from having access to unbiased informations but it's a concern for retarded people (read old people) who will vote for whoever looks the best on tv
While i still agree that it's something worth criticizing so that maybe something can be done about it there are a lot of things not covered and trusting a map where germany or sweden are used as the good example makes me laugh
>Where they tried to downplay cologne?
but anon, those journalists hid it on their own will, if the government had forced them to tell the truth about it, then the journalists would have considered themselves "forced" and would have claimed that there is no freedom of the press.
This is how sick journalists are. They're a bunch of leftist mafiosi
>B-B-BUT T-THEY'RE KEKS XDDDD
Meanwhile Sweden's nationalist party is now the biggest one in Sweden and the US is going to elect Shillary
They'd have their homes vandalised by the antifa and similar people. Lots of shit talked about them everywhere. However though the political/cultural climate in Sweden is horrible they are certainly free to write whatever they want.
>Predicting vote outcomes before the primary runners are announced.
Also i think they count things the government has no control over like number of "attacks" towards journalists or something, i remember reading that they were in shock because some journalist had his car scratched
In Sweden and Germany it was the government that witheld information, not the press. Which is actually worse but not related to freedom of the press. Also if you visit the site you can see where they base the ratings on.
>Euros talking about freedom
What percentage of your wages are confiscated by the government again?
>Reporters without Borders
into the trash it goes
Seriously, take the time to look at their methodology. It's a complete joke, just like almost every single one of these "rankings" or "indices".
Journalists are scum, lying manipulative scum, the kind of people who'll see people suffer and actually be happy because then that means they can make a cute propagandist story out of it and get a nice paycheck.
>you're no more free than than your average western country
>Slovakia being relevant to any discussion ever
why are americans so retarded?
it's like you go out of your way to be as retarded as you possibly can. Is it because all of your fat clogs your critical arteries, thus depriving your brain from oxygen?
>Puts leaf on flag
>Drinks milk from bag
Poor people in America have neither freedom or money.
We live and are treated like trash. Generational mobility is lower than in most European countries and ours has fallen significantly since 08'.
That was a shitty link sorry, here's the referenced article
>Mr Valls also said that France could extend its current state of emergency for "as long as is necessary" because of the threat from Islamic State (IS) jihadists, whom he called "Daesh".
>"We will see if we extend it," he said. "We cannot live forever in a state of emergency."
It's seen by some as the ideological door opener for the AfD and a connector between centrist and right wing opinions.
They have some really good articles sometimes.
It's just hard to find since most newspaper stands hide the controversial newspapers under the table (same for leftist Junge Welt)
go to mykiosk.com to find who is selling it.
Damn, I never thought I'd live to see the day where Nepal's press situtation would be this good.
when a cuntree is so boring, the press is actually encouraged to look for something "exciting".
Swedish media only presses stuff that they believe the people want to hear. They don't care about the truth and making people question current events.
Even if the government didn't withhold information, they're likely not to press something that can be regarded as politically incorrect and brand them and their paper as racist. Swedish newspapers have no balls desu.
And you'd think that their country having significant problems with aggressive refugees isn't important?
I just checked Expressen, Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet, and only Svenska Dagbladet seems to mention the refugee crisis.
Currently the majority of Swedish newspapers seems focused on a toddler who fell from a balcony, which is sad, but not something that should be sensationalized.
>While Russia’s leading TV channels continue to inundate viewers with propaganda, the Ukrainian crisis led to an increase in pressure on independent media, with a string of draconian laws, website blocking and leading independent news outlets either being brought under control or throttled out of existence. The climate has become very oppressive for those who question the new patriotic and neo-conservative discourse and, in some regions, local despots have taken advantage of this new climate to step up their persecution of critics.
Jesus, if that's not a propaganda than what propaganda is.
Took some time, but I found the unshopped version
The press in America is a monopoly, its as much about corporate influence as it is state influence over the media. The press in the US isn't free because one man controls half the fucking papers, just like here in the UK, meaning it's much harder to publish a variety of opinions and views, just as you should be able to with absolute freedom of the press.
Sweden and Germany* Ignores this fact
Most other countries are heavily debating this and are pretty worried. They're not going full stormfront though.
Are they ignoring this in Poland as well? I read something about you having some demonstrations regarding media rights and what not.
Think that was judicial rights rather than press freedoms. Correct me if I'm wrong but the government basically put in place their own judges in the high court, now the EU's getting involved as basically the government is taking away the ability of the public to legally challenge their own government.
Regarding the situation in Poland, I haven't read much. So I can't really tell. I'd like to read up more on this though, since it's a pretty serious issue that could turn nasty a la Erdogan style if not dealt with before it escalates.
>Are they ignoring this in Poland as well?
we are white on this map only because Germans own ~80% of Polish mass media, our current government tries to do something with this so "our" pro-German opposition started meme demonstrations
>Correct me if I'm wrong but the government basically put in place their own judges in the high court
>pro-German ruling party knows that they will lose next election
>they elect 5 new judges instead of 3
>new ruling party tries to elect judges correctly
>German media start anti-Polish campaign (also because that new Polish gov. opposes "refugee" quotas imposed by Germany)
end of story
It's really sad what's happening in Eastern Europe. Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Hungary and now Poland.
People are voting in strongmen that only use democracy to get into power, then destroy civil society, suppress press and opposition, install their cronies to public companies and cement themselves in power forever
