Like I said, with the younger people it's more common. I'm in college and a lot of people here smoke. A lot of money has gone into anti-smoking ads, which apparently has helped lower the amount of smokers. So maybe 20-30 years from now cigarettes won't be a thing anymore.

General public is sort of wobbly on this one. From stories I've read online in the US it seems to be negatively received because of media fearmongering and Big Tobacco lobbying, but in Canada, I've yet to meet someone openly against vaping. Even though e-cigarettes are very promising technology, underage kids and SWAGBROS are ruining the public image of it. Sometimes I see the odd person in a smoking area vaping and I feel bad for them as someone who regularly smokes cigars, because I know they just want to quit smoking or its a fun hobby to them (There is literally nothing better than getting home from work and sitting with a drink and a cigar if you can afford it), but they get the same reception as 16 year old 'cool kids' trying to blow rings in public. I remember in high school when kids would smoke cigars at parties to look cool, they would always end up sick from the heavy nicotine. I hope the little shits vaping get nicotine sickness and stay the fuck away from it like cigars, there's no room for people like this in hobby communities. I work in a cigar shop and love to rail 18 year olds that walk in with their underage friends waiting outside.

I smoked when I was 17-19 because we had a lot of Europeans at my school and I thought it made me cool. As soon as I could legally by them the edge factor died off and I stopped. I'll always remember the blind as fuck FOB asian guy that looked at my real underage ID and sold me smokes.

I live in a college town and most people that smoke cigarettes are stoner burnouts and blue collar workers. There are some exceptions though. I think there might be more people that chew than smoke. It's also made as difficult as possible, pretty much the only properties you can smoke on besides your own are outdoor sections at bars and sidewalks.

I went on an exchange trip to Germany and it was totally different, way more people smoked and they were people of all ages and classes. I actually started smoking myself and so did some other exchange students, mostly because we were drinking so much. I had to kick the habit once I got back because it was too expensive.
