Of course they were. The image implies factors other than geography are at play. Mainly, I'm going to assume, diet. I don't know that exercise impacts growth but I can tell you that at 1700 the colonial diet would have been better than the European one. They had way more land and paid a lot less taxes and dues. Also I bet the starvation and mass exodus of Irish manlets during the famine impacts that picture, assuming it includes the British Isles.

Every daily main dinner had and has some meat in it, therefore I guess so.
And I do like milk in processed form, such as cheeses or in sauces. Parents weren't malnourished in childhood either so, so dunno why I became much taller, maybe a generation was skipped or so? (Maternal grandpa as well as dad's twin brother are quite tall)
