Recycling is a big and profitable industry. My family used to collect cans and such from a small business we'd have and it was at least 100 dollars a month. Most people were nice enough to now throw the stuff out or even put it in the bins we had labeled themselves.

Compost units are supposed to be outside. Just leave it right by the door, even with a little stand since I doubt you go on the deck much during the winter. It'll kind of be like a freezer door but for compost.

Well that's always a good point to start from. I wanted to learn spanish or italian, because imo french is pretty gay, and I'd rather speak to south americans than to some africans, simply because I think south america is more interesting.
Do you know Radio.de? You can listen to the german stations there. They'll play english songs most of the time, but since the last three or for years german bands are becoming more popular here again. It's relatively late here, so their programm might be different now. If you listen to one of the WDRs you should get a lot of spoken stuff. They often do some kind of radioplays etc.
You could also watch die Sendung mit der Maus. It's some educational show for children, but it's not as bad as one might think.
