British people pay to be told that ninth century Sweden was populated by black people.
I'll just leave this here
You will enjoy pic related
>A little background in case you can't pick it up from context, he's a Polish game developer, I think he did Witcher, and people on social media were trying to call him out for not including any blacks in his portrayal of medieval NW Europe.
i love how in demon's souls and dark souls(and probably bloodborne) theres is not even ONE nonwhite(and asian) character and no one talks about it
this is the only black face of the game, and the characters from catarina are white, one being blonde
if this were released here everyone would go mad
I'd say people would flip out about it here too, but GTAV has the only playable black character start out by stealing, people were only a little pissed about that.
as its not bad enough
>the original name of the game would be dark race, not dark souls, with the dark ones being accursed
>siegmeyer, the only character of catarina(the black people lands) ABANDONED his BLONDE daughter(he is not blonde) and she is looking for him
CANT MAKE THIS SHIT UP
the vikings is pretty based and theres no nonwhites characters so far, and the main character have 2 women
Romanised Africans probably where in England after the Romans invaded and conquered the place, after that though there's a couple of small populations of Africans there during the 12th century and another smaller amount in the 16th century via the slave trade.
Not that bad, GTA San Andreas starts with a black CJ coming back to his gang-ridden city, being arrested before the game even starts and your first mission is stealing a bike. Your second mission is buying fast food.
people are being too harsh. what's so hard to get about non-Europeans, especially in European countries and offshoots, wanting representation in the dominant narratives than revolve around Europe?
African-Americans probably know more about Greece, Rome, the Vikings, the ancient Finnish empire, late medieval England and France than sub-Saharan Africa.
American people pay to be told that 5th century b.C. Greek people didn't use armor
You grossly overestimate both American education and African-Americans.
But since you mentioned Rome, I will say that the film Gladiator did a great job of keeping it sort of historically accurate looking, while still having an important black character.
The film Gladiator is also all most Americans know about Rome.
Spartan armor was from head to toe and doesn't look as cool as muscles. That film never tried to be in any way accurate anyway, it had monsters and shit in it.
I'm not talking about major historical figures where it'd be very jarring but secondary, fictional-but-verisimilar characters etc.
btw, i personally wouldn't have a problem with what you said. it isn't like northern Europeans haven't tried to appropriate everything that ever happened in Europe and even outside of it in the past (see nordicism). so i can't get too upset over some afrocentrists who might make 1% of the demands in comparison.
>what's so hard to get about non-Europeans, especially in European countries and offshoots, wanting representation in the dominant narratives than revolve around Europe?
it's fucking stupid. i don't need to see people with the same skin color as me in a film or tv show to enjoy it. i can appreciate context. i've been watching asian films my entire life and it doesn't bother me one fucking bit that there aren't any white characters for me to "relate" to.
the average person everywhere knows jackshit about anything but African-Americans still know more, even if grossly mistaken, decontextualized etc. about Europe than sub-Saharan Africa, especially when it comes to mythology and the like
sure, I can't say I completely get that mindset either but you've also had countless of "white" figures all around you and you've been immersed in "white" history and mythology all your life.
In the lord of the rings trilogy, there were no black people (apart from orcs). while In the hobbit trilogy there were some extras.
i wonder if internet activism had something to do with it
>implying it isn't the jews behind this.
When have you ever seen a regular black guy say "Oh man, I'm a fan of Heimdal. I read all the mythology about him but I sure with he was race-swapped to look like me!"
These decisions are not made by popular demand.
Follow the money.
Well they don't. The only black people who would even know about that shit are the black nerds who never talk about their race and have almost no ethnic affiliation.
Just because a movie has black peoples doesn't make it a BLACK movie. And of course there's some, like documentaries. But show me high budget films about it with a list actors and visible promotions. Good luck
i think I'm a bit lost in this discussion tho
